[Yukon, Part 1 : home movie] (1931/1942)
Film footage taken by Harry Lewis, employee of the Yukon Consolidated Gold Corporation (YCGC), a gold mining company. Film footage spans several years and includes the Lewis' June 1935 trip north after having spent the winter travelling; Princess Louise leaving Vancouver to go north to Skagway, Alaska through the Inside Passage; porpoise at play around the boats as they go on their journey; Petersburg; going through Wrangell Narrows, and a fishing boat that is about its business; arriving in Skagway at the end of Lynn Canal; and buildings along the main street in Skagway. Film footage taken in 1931 on Harold Lewis' first trip to Dawson including the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad which goes from Skagway to Whitehorse, Yukon; and a big trestle over one of the ravines in the village of Carcross, halfway between Whitehorse and Skagway. Shots taken in 1935 of the Whitehorse Rapids. Shots taken in 1942 of the trail that leads from Whitehorse to Lind Canyon; bridge over Miles Canyon where several boats were wrecked in 1898. Shots taken in May 1931 of the steamer White Horse entering Lake Labarge near Whitehorse, Yukon; breaking through the ice surface on Lake Labarge; and coming down the 30-mile stretch of the river. Shots taken in 1935 where a boat was stuck broadside on a sandbar for several hours; a plane coming into town for refuelling carrying Wiley Post and Will Rogers who were killed in a plane crash the next day in Point Arrow, Alaska. Shots taken in and around Dawson and the Klondike River including a woodpecker, snowbirds, a bullfrog, and a hawk looking for food. Shots taken in 1935 of Mr. Lewis climbing a hill in the south end of Dawson to get the first crocuses that bloom in the spring; ducks on a pond across the road from the Lewis' home; cultivated roses and begonias at St. Mary's Hospital; ducks on a pond across from the Lewis' home; hillside flowers around Dawson including daisies, lupins, wild roses, and lady slippers; a silvery sunset taken from the Dome looking north on the Yukon River; a storm coming up at sunset taken from the Dawson waterfront; Mr. and Mrs. MacLean and their cultivated strawberry garden in south Dawson; shots taken from the Dome looking north onto the river; a plane taking off from the river; and a group of Dawson people going up the Midnight Dome, a hill behind Dawson, taken on June 21st. The group includes Mrs. Butterworth, Mr. and Mrs. Chapel, and Doctor and Mrs. Renny.
