Jane Toy is proud to be a Whanganui artist who specializes in abstract works utilizing a range of materials across the media of painting, drawing, digital and textiles. Jane has been known to ‘draw’ with thread and to ‘paint’ with wool so she revels in the broad approach that abstract art allows. Many of her works stem from her love of Euclidean geometry which she plays with to create interesting optical twists and turns for the viewer. Jane Toy is intrigued by the multitude of forms that can be generated by a starting point of the simple geometric shapes we are all familiar with and which surround us in everyday life. By simplifying complex forms, or conversely complicating simple ones, Jane plays with line and colour to create strong and vibrant works that speak directly to the materials and processes at play.

Tour New Norcia in Western Australia with Kandu Holidays
New Norcia is a town in WA, 132 km north of Perth, along the Great Northern Highway. It is situated next to the banks of the Moore River, in the Shire of Victoria Plains.
New Norcia is the only monastic town in Australia. A ground station for the European Space Agency is situated 8 km south of the town.
The abbey is the heart and soul of New Norcia. From the extremely first years of the monastery in the 1840s, the rhythmic life of monasticism has actually guided the town.
Following the Rule of St Benedict the monks of New Norcia live a life of work and prayer and all rate to join the monks at prayer.
The town of New Norcia has structures in a Spanish design of architecture, along with some other archaeological sites. Among these are the 2 old boarding schools, St Ildephonsus' and St Gertrude's (both now made use of for accommodation and numerous social functions), the Abbey Church (including the burial place of Rosendo Salvado), an old mill, a wine press, a hotel, and the abbey itself.
The town has actually drawn in interest and traveler sees for a lot of its existence, and as a repercussion a number of guide books and histories have actually been produced.
Kandu Holidays offers this Guided tour of the town with entry to the museum and art gallery.
This includes morning tea, but lunch will be at your expense at your choice of either the New Norcia Hotel or the local roadhouse. You may wish to bring a picnic lunch instead.

Artist’s statement
For as long as I can remember I’ve been drawn to the sea the sky and mountains . I think it’s the solitude, and also in a big way the vastness of our planet and how small we are as individual creatures. I stand in awe at the power of nature . My never ending goal is to try in some small way to portray or capture this.
After over 35 years I’m still learning and I still want to experiment with images. Unlike many artists I don’t want to stick with a tried and tested style or a formula that sells . Its nice when someone says ‘ is this one of yours ?’
I believe artists grow if they experiment and keep pushing the barriers ,and create at their best when they have a connection with the subject.
I try to paint every day, worried that I might not still be able to do it tomorrow ! In recent years my work has become looser and I try to avoid labouring over small areas. Capturing strong light and shade is very important to me. I love to work on bigger canvases. It gives me a greater sense of still being there !

Oil painting techniques and tutorial with Emily Speakman I Colour In Your Life
In this fine art TV show episode Emily Speakman is interviewed with Colour In Your Life about painting, drawing, art workshops, art tips and art techniques.

Fine Art TV Series - Colour In Your Life
Season - 15
Episode - 10
Filmed on Location at - United Kingdom
Emily Speakman is the youngest ever artist to be filmed on Colour In Your Life. She is 18 at the time of filming and has already achieved so much. We can't wait to see this artist as she develops even further.
From a very young age, Emily Speakman displayed a flair for art that was beyond her tender age. It was when Emily was 12 years old that her talent for oil painting presented itself and she hasn't stopped painting since! Her talent has led her artwork to be exhibited at the Tate Liverpool and to be used as the front cover of books.
In August 2011 at the age of 12, Emily made her first sale while painting in front of house visitors at Erddig Hall. Later in May 2012, at the age of 13, Emily exhibited at the Virgin Art Exhibition in her local church where all of her work sold within 24 hours! The biggest reward for an artist is when someone wants to buy their work, she was so thrilled!
Later in February 2013, Emily Speakman entered the ‘Artist of the Year 2013’ competition with the SAA (society for all artists), where she won the 'Best Junior in the Seascape, boats and waterscape category'. This was a huge honour for Emily as it meant her work would be on display at the ' All About Art 2013' event in London.
In September 2013, Emily entered her artwork into Wrexham Open competition at the Oriel Gallery, to her delight she not only won the ‘Best Young Artist’ but she also won ‘The People’s Choice’.
In January 2014, Emily was invited to become a member of A.C.O Galleries which is a non-profit co-operative of artists who formed to promote the work of its members by staging self-funded exhibitions. The artists’ consist of some of the best the North has to offer who are driven in their determination to support each other.
In August 2014, Emily’s painting ‘Space’ was selected for exhibition at the Tate Liverpool which is one of the largest contemporary art galleries outside of London. Emily has also supported numerous charities such as Nightingale House, RAF Benevolent Fund, Clatterbridge Cancer Research, Parkinson’s UK and The Jon Eggin Trust.
Other exhibitions have included, North Wales Open Theatre Clwyd, Business design centre, London, the Tate Liverpool and more recently commissioned by Luciano Benetton to take part in the worldwide Imago Mundi Exhibition 2016.

Sirens - When a painting is termed blasphemous, a young minister and his wife visit the artist... and the three sexually playful models living with him.
Sirens (1994):
Director: John Duigan
Writer: John Duigan
Stars: Hugh Grant, Tara Fitzgerald, Sam Neill
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance
Runtime: 1h 24min
Country: Australia | UK
Language: English
Release Date: 15 September 1994 (Germany)
Also Known As: Verführung der Sirenen
Filming Locations: Art Gallery Of New South Wales, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Story:
A young reverend and his wife are on the way from England to Australia to minister to their flock. The bishop asks him to visit an eccentric artist prone to sexual depictions and requests that he voluntarily withdraw a controversial work call Crucified Venus from his show. The minister, who considers himself a progressive, is shocked at the amoral atmosphere surrounding the painter, his wife, and the three models living at his estate. The minister's wife is troubled also, and has to deal with latent sexual urges while trying to remain loyal to her husband.
Reviews:
This film was funny and inspiring, with beautiful music by Rachel Portman (the only female composer in films in the top ten almost all male composer lists). Lots in this film will stay with you; especially the scenes with Australian animals and waters and snakes. Great philosophical and comedic themes as well. Bears watching a number of times to get it all. Thanks to everyone concerned for making this wonderful and funny film; first time I've smiled in a long time! Written by ctodd1000 via IMDb.com
This is supposed to be a comedy but I found myself transfixed by the stunning cinematography and beautiful bodies more than anything else. Sam Neill's bevy of beautiful nude models, headed by Elle Macpherson, nearly steal the show. Hugh Grant is surprisingly convincing in his role as the prudish minister and Tara Fitzgerald is equally convincing as his almost-as-prudish wife. The are a few funny moments in this film involving the models' interactions with Grant and Fitzgerald. Written by 4dtvman via IMDb.com
Oh, how I love this movie!
It shows us how under the thin veneer of hypocrisy, religiousness, and enmity against all physical lies what God gave us to enjoy: a body to experience happiness, laughter, desire, sensuality, lust, and sexuality. And no institutions (like the Christian church in this film) have the right nor - in the long run - the capability to prevent people from finding out this fundamental truth.
Watching this movie without an open mind towards sex or a joyful sense of humor surely will be annoying. So fundamentalist Christians and other prudes shouldn't bother. The rest of the audience (hopefully the majority) can expect a solid performance of the entire ensemble and many moments that make you smile and sometimes downright happy. Written by Theodor16 via IMDb.com
Grab your boyfriend or girlfriend and enjoy this little erotic gem of a movie about a painter and his small commune of 'sirens' and the church envoy who is sent to investigate exactly what moves this man and what the little group is up to. Hugh Grant is very good as the uptight clergyman, and Tara Fitzgerald is wonderful as a woman experiencing sexual reawakening. Elle gives a subtle surprising performance as the chief 'siren', kudos for stocking an extra 20 pounds for this role, rubenesque an all, she looks delightful. A nice leisurely wintery afternoon watch. 7/10 Written by surfandski via IMDb.com

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reunite for Sisters, a new film from Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore about two disconnected sisters summoned home to clean out their childhood bedroom before their parents sell the family house. Looking to recapture their glory days, they throw one final high-school-style party for their classmates, which turns into the cathartic rager that a bunch of ground-down adults really need.
Fey produces the comedy alongside Jay Roach (Meet the Parents series) and John S. Lyons (Austin Powers in Goldmember), and Poehler executive produces alongside Jeff Richmond and Brian Bell from a script by Paula Pell (TV’s Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock). sistersfilm.com
