Pearl B Larsen Quadrille Dancers for VI Transfer Day Mar31.2011.MVI_0114.MOV
Quadrille Dancers of Pearl B. Larsen Elementary School share a cultural presentation as part of the entertainment segment of the 94th Annual Commemoration of the Virgin Islands Transfer Day on March 31st, 2011. Hosted at the Marie and Kai Laweatz Museum nestled in the rainforest of Frederiksted, St. Croix Virgin Islands [US] with collaborative support of the Office of the Governor of the Virgin Islands, dignitaries of the Government of Denmark, The Friends of Denmark and The St. Croix Landmarks Society stcroixlandmarks.com .
These students shared a wonderful presentation of traditional quadrille dance that serves as an integral part of the cultural heritage of these Virgin Islands. Everyone wanted to dance on these sacred grounds in Estate Little La Grange!!!
Witnessing these youth embracing and celebrating cultural traditions is a reminder of where more of our time, energy and resources are to be placed-especially by those that lead, administrate, manage and serve the people of the Virgin Islands! Congratulations to our masterful caller Mrs. Roseanne Brodhurst, Mrs. Emmanuella Perez-Cassius and educators and cultural tradition bearers- inclusive of Mrs. Lampe our former quadrille instructor- that work with our children to keep wi' kulcha alive!!! A life of thanks.
Black History in America -- US Virgin Islands
MaryAnn Golden Christopher was a key player in the preservation of traditional dancing on the US Virgin Islands, namely Bamboula dancing. Bamboula is a dance that came with the slaves from West Africa when they first came to the Caribbean, and variations of this dance appear throughout the Caribbean.
I dedicate this video to the memory of MaryAnn Golden Christopher, who appears in this video. She brought light to all who knew her, and it was an honor to have met this incredibly inspiring woman before her passing too early from this earth.
First Time Visiting St.Croix U.S.V.I
In this video, I took a short getaway to St.Croix to visit my lovely sis. Even though it was a day and a half trip, I had an amazing time.
St. Croix is one of the U.S. Virgin Islands, in the Caribbean. Bright yellow Fort Christiansvaern is among Christiansted National Historic Site’s Danish colonial buildings. West, St. George Village Botanical Gardens occupies an old sugar plantation. Point Udall’s Millennium Monument marks the easternmost point of U.S. territory. North, Salt River Bay National Park has archaeological sites, mangroves and coral reefs.
I’ll will be returning for a next visit and hope to do a lot more activities.

Fountain Valley 1972 by Michael A. Joseph
Author name: Michael Antonio Joseph, writing as Michael A. Joseph, Esq.
Title: Fountain Valley 1972
Page size/soft or hardcover/color or b&w interior/page count/SRP/ISBN:
6x9, soft, b&w, 252 pp, $15.95, 978-1-62857-984-0
Synopsis:
My family grew up on the U.S. island of St. Croix, free from America’s skin color drama. We locals refer to white people from the mainland as continentals, and to blacks as Yankees.
In 1972, a local Vietnam vet tried to kill two cops while they were arresting a fellow combat veteran who stole money for heroin to which they both became addicted while fighting the war. The shooter got away, but was relentlessly hunted by the police.
He sought refuge in my brother’s camp, where three other men were visiting. With them, he instigated the Fountain Valley Golf Course murders, called one of the most vicious crimes “in the annals of Western civilization.” The four were clueless to the vet’s tactics that made the killings appear to be racially motivated. All five were captured, tortured, convicted, and sentenced to eight consecutive life terms.
In 1984, the vet convict escaped by hijacking an airliner to Cuba, where he remains today.
In 1994, my brother Rafie was released based on his rehabilitation, which included tutoring hundreds of inmates to obtain their high school diplomas. But because the killings had been publicized as a black-on-white crime, his freedom was protested. The backlash caused a local continental prosecutor to block Rafie from attending the University of California at Santa Cruz, and he couldn’t get the counseling job he trained for while in prison. Rafie committed suicide.

As time passes, the methods of historical preservation must be updated. The events in these photos were captured on 35 mm film, a great format for image capture, but poor by today’s standards for broadcast. It is my wish to share these rare historical images with the world. By creating interesting photo compilations of every possible angle, it is my intent to release these new images that show historical moments from another perspective.
This collection of photos are very rare, it is a miracle that we are able to see them. Please enjoy the few minutes that you spare to look at historical events in what amounts to an unbelievable technical event.

STONE WORK OF THE VIRGiN ISLANDS (Mike Haduck)
I visited Saint John, Virgin Islands and interviewed Glen Speer, owner of Mongoose Junction. Visited the old sugar cane ruins and did some snorkeling, and gave some opinions.
Stanley Jacobs on Quelbe
More Info:
Quelbe is the official music style of the Virgin Islands, characterized by call-and-response singing and drumming, accompanied by African-influenced dance.
Stanley Jacobs, bandleader of Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights and retired psychiatrist, shares his history and experiences with the old-yet-new dance music. Though once overshadowed by other music styles from America and the Caribbean islands, Quelbe climbed the social ladder as the Virgin Islands focused on instilling the cultural heritage. Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights continue to play the traditional music 40 years later.
