“The Last Sunday Service,” @St Aidans Kirk....Galashiels 1880 - 2019 ????????????????????????????
A look at the demolition process on maybe the last Sunday service 10th March 2019.
The church was built by the Edinburgh firm of Thornton Shiells and Thomson, a large domestic practice, as the South United Presbyterian Church at a cost of £5000. The designs were exhibited twice at the Royal Academy (1880 and 1885). St Aidans is thought to have been designed by Robert Thornton Shiells (1833-1902), primarily a church architect, who trained under David Bryce. Shiells is known to have designed a good number of churches for the United Presbyterian Church, of which St. Aidans is seen as a fine example.
The church was consecrated in August 1880 and has remained in ecclesiastical use since then. It was renamed St Aidan's in 1981.
The later halls were requisitioned by the military for use as a canteen during the war. (Historic Environment Scotland List Entry)

NB I cannot take any credit for this cine footage. I was given it many years ago on an old VHS tape and do not know who was responsible for filming it but thought it deserved to be shared.

Abandoned Bristol Mill ⛓ Galashiels My Last Go Pro Vid
Bristol Mill is among the best surviving mills in Galashiels, consisting of a considerable complex of industrial buildings of different dates illustrating the development of manufacturing over time and situated on a highly prominent site at the entrance to the town, acting as an introduction to the character of the town. The importance of the wool manufacturing trade to Galashiels can not be overestimated, as this industry was the sole reason for its expansion and prosperity in the 19th century. Wool manufacture has largely subsided, but the remaining buildings are important monuments to the industry. Bristol Spinning Mill was erected in 1885 by Roberts, Dobson and Company. In 1895 it became the property of William Roberts and was used to supply yarn to Victoria Mill until 1905. In 1921 the mill was taken over by Wright and Jobson, who built the large extension on the NW end of the mill, re-equipping it with mules still in use until the mill closed in c1998 and the machinery was removed.
I am completely done with Go Pro after years of generations of the camera ive taken my second hero 6 black back to Currys for a refund to buy a cannon gx7 mk2 which Currys do not stock.
The audio with the cameras is terrible when vlogging and walking around I brought a 3 way pole to try to help but alas as you can hear in this vid the background hum creeks and groans are still there I did my best in post to try to minimise this cutting the worst clips out but im sick of having to do this and paying over £400 you'd expect clips with useable audio.
The cannon GX7 mk2
which ive ordered should be with me in the next few days and im looking forward to taking the camera into the field of play for my next vid.
The Go Pro Drone was a complete failure too coming in at £800 without a go pro was ridiculous compared to the mavic from DJI
As always a big thank you for all the support I look forward to bring you all better quality content.
History is a learning process I hope to bring you many worthwhile projects.

Abandoned Botany Mill..........Galashiels ???????????????????????????? 2019
Join me as I link up with Lewis from “The Outbursts,”.
High Mill also known as Botany Mill Galashiels Scottish Borders an historic industrial Mill listed on the buildings at risk register Scotland
Originally known as the Weirhaugh Mill, this mill was erected in 1797, by Hugh Sanderson, clothier and Thomas Clapperton weaver.
When the name was changed to Botany is unknown, but the name probably arose from it being the first mill in the town in which Botany wool was used.
In 1829 the mill was enlarged.
