Author and businesswoman Catherine Bishop hosted an intimate dinner and discussion in the Dining Room at National Trust (NSW) property, Old Government House in Parramatta - which is both the oldest surviving and World Heritage Listed public building in Australia.
Catherine Bishop explored the forgotten entrepreneurial businesswomen who earnt their living in a variety of small – and sometimes surprising – ways during the early days of Sydney. She brought to life the fascinating details of the successes and failures, determination and wilfulness, achievements, tragedies and the occasional juicy scandal of these extraordinary women.

Catherine Bishop is the author of Minding Her Own Business: Colonial Businesswomen in Sydney, and Women Mean Business, which explores the lives of New Zealand’s colonial businesswomen. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Macquarie University researching the history of 20th-century Australian businesswomen.

buy them anymore - and Millennials could be to blame.The birthplace of the lamington has taken the iconic Australian cake off of the menu – 117 years after it was created.Brisbane's Old Government House removed the chocolate and coconut covered sponge from the building's restaurant, The Pantry, six weeks ago because they were not selling, according to The Brisbane Times.The sweet is believed to have been crafted in the house's kitchen in 1900 for Lady May Lamington, the wife of Lord Charles Wallace Lamington, Queensland's eight governor.

Parramatta Park -Parramatta
Parra park is a massive 58acres, you can do it by foot or just cycle around the park. It has several duck ponds, walking paths,2 kids playgrounds and a fitness circuit. There are plenty of space for a game of footy or just throw down a blanket for a picnic BBQ. The park is rich in the areas History with guided tours of the Old Government House or just have a wonder and check out the historical structures within the park. There is a cafe inside the park. Don't pay for the parking like what I mistakenly did, Just drive into the park and there are numerous Free 2 hour parking spots all over. Park opens from 6am to 6pm, gates close at 8pm daylight savings time so don't get your car locked in as there is a cost to get the gate reopened for you.

Abandon All Hope - a history of Parramatta Girls Home
Abandon All Hope is the first documented history of the Parramatta Girls Home - a project made possible through the Parrastories Heritage and Stories fund, Parramatta City Council. Until now the story of this State operated welfare institution has remained relatively unknown.
The document examines the site's archeological heritage together with an overview of the statutory and societal forces and the individual and collective experiences of the young people who once resided within its walls. Copies of the publication are available from the Parramatta Heritage Centre.
