Old Hume Highway Level Crossing Annimation, Glenrowan Victoria
The teardrop bell was probably replaced with a hybrid bell between 2012 and 2014. The crossing was then upgraded with gates in 2018 with the old signals been ripped out and replaced.
The flashing light footage is from Stuart Hunt's video of the Maclise Street level crossing in Castlemaine, Victoria and the bell sound effect is from McK&H Aust's video of the Berthong Road level crossing in Cootamundra, New South Wales.
Australian Prisoners of War (Part 7)
Part seven: Despair, hope, secrets and escape
Death could occur from a number of causes in prison camps, including from despair. In this short film you will hear POW survivors speak of the power of hope; of faith in one's future. They reveal the things that gave them hope - from hidden, makeshift radios to escape plans. We learn a little of the Great Escape from Stalag III and discover how impossible it was to escape from the Japanese POW camps in Southeast Asia.
Australian Prisoners of War has been produced by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs as an introduction for both teachers and student in Australian secondary schools to the wealth of primary source material available in the Australians at War Film Archive.

Michael Atherton & Sirocco #1
The original, ground-breaking line-up that changed the Australian folk music scene in the 1980s: Michael Atherton, Bill O'Toole, Andrew de Teliga and Guy Madigan. Atherton produced the first two albums, Paths of the Wind, and Earthdance. Both recordings captured the energy and originality of eclectic instrumental colours, Bulgarian and Macedonian dances, and Celtic folk music from Ireland, Scotland and Brittany. Atherton and de Teliga also contributed original collaborative works and individual items. The original Sirocco was an all acoustic group with the capacity to lead huge crowds in wild dances in outdoor venues, even when the PA failed! Two Breton bombardes (double reed shawms) and two side drums made enough sound to send dancers into a frenzy! In the early 80s, Sirocco often supported and toured with Redgum and the Bushwackers. Sirocco whipped up a storm on many occasions and developed a national profile in Australia as an original iconic group. While they never had the hit single airplay of a deserving Redgum, they were, nonetheless, a most versatile music group, which was equally at home in a pub, a park, a festival or a concert hall stage.

Bushrangers - Gold Trails
By the start of 1862, the Frank Gardiner gang were well established as a major threat to travellers and mail services on the highways of central and south west NSW. No one suspected however, that the gang would ever dare to take on the rich gold escort with its four armed police guarding the weekly consignment of gold to Sydney from the staggeringly rich new field at Forbes.
Many other bushrangers were about in these times. Discover the rich bushranger history of Australia with the Gold Trails.
