【Description/概要】
I would introduce the first person who created a very accurate Japanese map by surveying. His name is Tadataka Ino. He tells us how wonderful it is to do what you like in life.

SAWARA GRAND FESTIVAL ◆ 80 Days JAPAN
The only thing better than attending an authentic Japanese village festival is actively joining in the dancing, songs and celebrations with the residents, and that’s what our lucky participants will do! Each traveler will become a Matsuri-festival performer in the annual Sawara Grand Festival.
About Sawara
SAWARA, an old wealthy merchant town is in Eastern Chiba Prefecture. Sometimes called a “Little Edo” because of the many attractive, historic stone, timber and tile-roofed shops and fireproof storehouses; known as “kura”, dating from the Edo-Period (1603 to 1868) which line the beautiful willow tree-lined Ono River. This river flows through the center of town beneath picturesque bridges before joining the Tone River which flows eastward to the Pacific Ocean. Sawara was also the home of the famed polymath, Ino Tadataka, a former merchant, village leader and astronomer who created Japan’s first accurate modern map which was completed in 1827. Sawara grand festival is one of the UNESCO-recognized intangible cultural assets of Japan.
About Eighty Days
Japan’s ancient streetscapes and natural environment have managed to maintain their beauty to the present day by coexisting with their inhabitants. But this ancient coexistence is beginning to fray. The Japanese countryside is now dotted with abandoned houses, and without young people to pass them down to, it’s cultural traditions face a crisis of succession. At the same time as Japan’s population has continued to fall, the number of foreign tourists visiting Japan has increased five-fold in the last six years. We here at Eighty Days saw this as an opportunity to harness the power of Japan’s growing number of tourists to make a contribution to Japan’s regional revitalization efforts.

春の水郷佐原を行く Spring walk in Sawara a village of water
I had hoped to go to this town long and a name of the town is
Sawara in Katori city,Chiba prefecture since I had heard about this town for the first time.
This town is also known as a village of water in which Onogawa river runs across
and Japanese old fashioned buildings built in Edo era exist along the river
and it is told that Onogawa river reaches Tonegawa river that is much bigger than this river.
Onogawa is a small branch of Tonegawa grand river.
Sawara is the town where Tadataka Ino had lived for long during his adulthood
untill when he moved to Fukagawa,in today’s Koto ward,Tokyo.
Tadataka Ino is a famous person who first made a national map of a chain of islands of Japan.
We,all of Japanese learned about him in class of history.
He had lived in this village as a merchant until he was at the age of 50.
I don’t know what kind of goods he had dealt in but Sawara originally had reputation for
production of soy source broadly.
Many of old buildings like a garage which were made of white mud and wood is
a kind of trace which tells how people lived in those days.
Toyohashi bridge is not used as a bridge originally, this bridge is changed
to a bridge later.
At the middle of this bridge at intervals of 30 minutes, water runs down to the river.
This place is selected as one of The one hundred scenes of water of Japan.
It is so rare attractive place which represents this village of water as a symbol.

SUMMARY
=======
A National Treasure (国宝, kokuhō) is the most precious of Japan's Tangible Cultural Properties, as determined and designated by the Agency for Cultural Affairs (a special body of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology). A Tangible Cultural Property is considered to be of historic or artistic value, classified either as buildings and structures or as fine arts and crafts. Each National Treasure must show outstanding workmanship, a high value for world cultural history, or exceptional value for scholarship.
Approximately 20% of the National Treasures are structures such as castles, Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines, or residences. The other 80% are paintings; scrolls; sutras; works of calligraphy; sculptures of wood, bronze, lacquer or stone; crafts such as pottery and lacquerware carvings; metalworks; swords and textiles; and archaeological and historical artifacts. The items span the period of ancient to early modern Japan before the Meiji period, including pieces of the world's oldest pottery from the Jōmon period and 19th-century documents and writings. The designation of the Akasaka Palace in 2009 and of the Tomioka Silk Mill in 2014 added two modern, post-Meiji Restoration, National Treasures.
Japan has a comprehensive network of legislation for protecting, preserving, and classifying its cultural patrimony. The regard for physical and intangible properties and their protection is typical of Japanese preservation and restoration practices. Methods of protecting designated National Treasures include restrictions on alterations, transfer, and export, as well as financial support in the form of grants and tax reduction. The Agency for Cultural Affairs provides owners with advice on restoration, administration, and public display of the properties. These efforts are supplemented by laws that protect the built environment of designated structures and the necessary techniques for restoration of works.
Kansai, the region of Japan's capitals from ancient times to the 19th century, has the most National Treasures; Kyoto alone has about one in five National Treasures. Fine arts and crafts properties are generally owned privately or are in museums, including national museums such as Tokyo, Kyoto, and Nara, public prefectural and city museums, and private museums. Religious items are often housed in temples and Shinto shrines or in an adjacent museum or treasure house.
