Pollsmoor Prison, officially, Pollsmoor Maximum Security Prison is a prison in the Cape Town suburb of Tokai in South Africa. Nelson Mandela was one of the most famous people imprisoned there. He described Pollsmoor Prison as the truth of Oscar Wilde's haunting line about the tent of blue that prisoners call the sky.[1]
Pollsmoor is a maximum security prison with little means in the way of escape. Some of South Africa's most dangerous criminals are held in Pollsmoor Prison. The prison has a staff of 1,278 and the capacity to accommodate 4,336 offenders, but the current inmate population is over 7,000 (a figure which fluctuates daily).
Marlene Lehnberg, known as The Scissor Murderess served her sentence in Pollsmoor but was paroled in 1986. Walter Sisulu and Ahmed Kathrada, both anti-apartheid activists, were also incarcerated at Pollsmoor. Alan Boesak served his prison term here after he was convicted of fraud in 2000.

The Nightmare World of Gang Stalking
More than 10,000 people worldwide claim they're the victims of a vast organized surveillance effort designed to ruin their lives, a phenomenon known as gang stalking. Mental health experts see gang stalking as a symptom of paranoia, but the self-identified victims who insist what they're experiencing is real have come together online and in support groups to share their stories.
VICE met up with a handful of Americans who claim their lives have been derailed by gang stalking to understand what serious consequences the phenomenon presents. Then we hear from Dr. Josh Bazell, one of many physicians who believes the victims of gang stalking are experiencing dangerous delusions that could be treated by mental health professionals.

Fort Worth Officer Did Not Identify Himself
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A white police officer who killed a black woman inside her Texas home while responding to a neighbor's call about an open front door didn't have time to perceive a threat before he opened fire, an attorney for the woman's family said.
The Fort Worth Police Department said in a statement that officers saw someone near a window inside the home and that one of them drew his duty weapon and fired after perceiving a threat. The video released by police shows two officers searching the home from the outside with flashlights before one shouts, Put your hands up, show me your hands. One shot is then fired through a window. The officer does not identify himself as police in the video.

African Americans and Utopia: Visions of a Better Life
Lyman Tower Sargent discussed the many ways that African Americans contributed to visions of a better life in the U.S. in literature, by establishing communities and by contributing to the dialogue around betterment throughout U.S. history. While there have been studies of individual African American writers and authors of science fiction, there has been no attempt to examine the many ways that African Americans contributed to American utopianism. This resulted in a substantial gap in the history of American political thought.
- Lyman Tower Sargent is professor emeritus of political science at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He is also an author and scholar in the area of utopian studies.

Direct File: The School to Prison Pipeline (No Place For A Child) | AWARE | WSRE
Dee Dee Sharp and her guests discuss “direct file”, a process that sends juveniles to adult prison. Florida prosecutes more children in the adult criminal justice system than any other state. Some of the children are as young as ten years old, and many are charged with non-violent crimes. Escambia County sends more children to adult prison than any other Florida county. On this edition of Aware, the guests are part of a coalition known as “No Place For A Child.” They are working together for legislation that would require “fitness hearings”, that is, to have a judge, not a prosecutor, decide if a child should be prosecuted as an adult. The panel includes attorney Scott McCoy, Senior Policy Counsel for the Southern Poverty Law Center; Rev. Dr. Rick Branch with First United Methodist Church of Pensacola, a member of the Escambia Youth Justice Coalition; Paula Montgomery, M.D., with the League of Women Voters, Pensacola Bay Area; Movement For Change president Jerry Mcintosh, who is the host of “Our Voices”, a live stream internet talk show; and Anne Williams, an advocate for her son, who was sentenced to adult prison at the age of fourteen.

MUELLER HEARING: House Judiciary Committee Part 1
House Democrats are planning to turn former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s highly anticipated congressional testimony next week into a marathon string of hearings, setting the stage for what could be hours of back-to-back questioning by dozens of lawmakers in public and closed-door settings.
A number of details, though, were still being ironed out, with the scheduled appearance just a week away. Lawmakers met later Wednesday to try finalizing the structure of the politically charged hearings, but said afterwards that discussions were “in flux” and some sticking points may not be resolved until the day of the hearing.
This is what is known so far: Mueller, who was subpoenaed last month, is set to appear July 17. The plan is for him to testify in public before the House Judiciary Committee for two hours or more, followed by another two hours-plus of testimony before the House Intelligence Committee in an open setting.
