Stanier tanks in North Wales - 1967
The RCTS 'Wrexham, Mold & Connah's Quay Railway' railtour of 29th April 1967, the first part of which we saw on the WCML behind a 9F, reversed at Hooton form which it was headed by a pair of Stanier 4P tanks to reach the target railway. The first move took the train around the north-to-west curve at the north end of Chester station to Mold Junction, where it diverged onto the ex-LNWR line to Mold and Denbigh. We see it first at the closed Padeswood & Buckley station, running 'wrong line' as the route had recently been singled - note the rusted rails; this station had closed on 6th January 1958. Then we see it at Rhydymwyn (which had closed to passengers five years less a day earlier than the scene seen here), where the locomotives ran round the train.

A brief chat revealed that these former Round-Tablers are still game for fun and fellowship -whilst raising £1000s for worthy causes.
