Travel Guide to Quebec City
In this travel video guide to Quebec City, I travel around Quebec City including its historic Old Town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), stop in at the famed Ice Hotel where visitors spend the night on ice beds, and explore the Winter Carnival, the biggest winter carnival in the world that attracts over 600,000 people a year.
I finish up the Winter Carnival by watching a night parade and partying it up at a nighttime outdoor snow rave.

Quebec City on a Budget (Walking Tour of Old Quebec) (178)
Quebec City was first settled by Jacques-Cartier in 1535. That's 484 years worth of history. Everywhere you look in Old Quebec there is a piece of history. Boasting French Urban Colonial Architecture and prominent military installations, Old Quebec is easy to get around on foot.
We started our tour at the Martello Towers, then crossed the street to the Plains of Abraham. At this site in 1759, the British took control of Quebec City and allowed them to take over the rest of Canada the following year.
From there we walked to the Citadelle which is an active and historic military installation. We then took theGovernor's Walkway boardwalk that hugs Quebec's fortification walls over to the Chateau Frontenac.
The Chateau Frontenac was one of the first grand railway hotels. It has hosted many prominent public figures and has themed rooms to honor such figures as Pierre Elliott & Justin Trudeau, Churchill, and Roosevelt.
We ended the tour meandering within Old Quebec's fortification walls and discovered some festivals, buskers and many, many restaurants.
This walking tour is a low cost, family friendly way to see this beautiful city and many historical sites. There are many signs in both languages that the discuss the important buildings and sites, which also makes it very interactive.
We are looking forwards to visiting it again in the near future.

Canada is situated in the northern part of the continent of North America. It has the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Pacific Ocean to the west, and the Arctic Ocean to the north. It is the world's second largest country by area. Both English and French are official languages of Canada. This is indicative of its history as a sought after colony of both English and French powers.
Quebec City is the capital city of the Canadian province of Quebec. Quebec City is known for its French Canadian culture, narrow cobblestone streets, French architecture, and breathtaking views of the St Lawrence River. The most historic part of Quebec City, Old Quebec/Vieux-Quebec, is surrounded by fortified city walls. Old Quebec is thus designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In the early 1500’s, the region where Quebec currently stands was home to the indigenous village of Stadacona. Jacques Cartier was the first European to sail the St. Lawrence River and visit Stadacona (present-day Quebec City). Read more on this here:

Québec was founded by the French explorer Champlain in the early 17th century. It is the only North American city to have preserved its ramparts, together with the numerous bastions, gates and defensive works which still surround Old Québec. The Upper Town, built on the cliff, has remained the religious and administrative centre, with its churches, convents and other monuments like the Dauphine Redoubt, the Citadel and Château Frontenac. Together with the Lower Town and its ancient districts, it forms an urban ensemble which is one of the best examples of a fortified colonial city. ( )

Winter in Quebec City Travel Guide
Having now visited Quebec City in both the summer and winter I'm officially naming it our favorite city in Canada. I've never visited a city where I felt such a radical difference between seasons. Coming back here in the winter felt like falling in love and rediscovering Quebec City all over again. We bundled up early on a Sunday morning to wander around the Old City before the masses converged.

We ended up walking (or should I say sliding/skating) down Petit Champlain marveling at all of the festive and Christmas decorations before warming up next to a fire and then grabbing a hot chocolate, Nanaimo bar and cookies. Later we wandered down to the Saint Lawrence where we could see massive chunks of ice floating down the river. Finally, we checked out a few different vantage points where we could admire some of the best city views and snap photos of the Château Frontenac.
Winter in Quebec City Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Faster, horses! Faster!
And how is the ice princess this morning?
Doing very well. This morning we are heading in to the Old City. We're going to do a bit of a walking tour on our own. Let's head into town and check it out.
We are about to enter the old city.
There are real benefits to waking up early on a Sunday morning. We've practically got the old part of the city to ourselves. And what a different feel. In the summer it had a totally different vibe and now in the winter it's like an entirely new city to explore.
So I just noticed there are railings all along the street and I think it is because it is so steep and it gets so icy in the wintertime that if they didn't have these babies people would just be sliding all the way down. Well, we've been sliding a lot anyways. Yes.
So it is kind of cool being here in the winter because even though it is February it still feels like Christmas never left. Like we still have Christmas trees, Christmas lights, lots of red. So it feels very festive. Absolutely.
We found a little place where to warm up. There is a little outdoor fireplace. It is our own personal fire place.
And we really need it after all that walking. Put your legs up by the fire.
It's a dragon! It's a snow dragon! A fire breathing dragon.
Alright, it is time to warm up. Let's go for a hot chocolate and maybe even a cupcake. Yum yum. Lead the way.
How is that hot chocolate? Mmmm. That is so good after that really really cold walk. Alright, it's time to lick your lips. You've got cream all over your face. There you go.
That's some kind of classic Canadian food. Here we've got Nanaimo bars. Audrey is digging in. Very Canadian. Let's have that first bite. Mmmm. Sweet enough for you?
It's such a nice breakfast.
And I've got fudge and Bonhomme de Carnaval. And this guy has been really nice to me but unfortunately I'm going to have to take a bite out of his head. Sorry, Bonhomme.
Does he taste good? He does.
What do you have over there? And the last indulgence of the day - we've got pure maple sugar fudge.
I'm not surprised you would go for that. You're always looking for fudge wherever we go. I don't have anything to say - it's just pure bliss.
Now if you can believe it we were bonkers enough to be doing ice canoeing out in the Saint Lawrence with those massive chunks of ice. It was just one of the craziest things we've ever done. We can't wait to show you that video as well.
So now we're working our way up to the Chateau Frontenac. That means climbing a lot of steps. I'm already out of breath. We still have a few more to go.
Lead the way.
It's a little steep and slippery over here. I almost feel like I could go snowboarding.
Do it. Do it.
And the concludes our walking tour of Old Quebec. Now we're going to head back to our hotel, warm up a little bit and get ready to do some more exploring in the afternoon.
This is part of our Travel in Canada series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Canadian culture, Canadian arts, Canadian foods, Canadian religion, Canadian cuisine and Canadian people.

NARROW STREETS OF QUEBEC CITY, CANADA
If you happen to come to Quebec City by car, your own or rental, you MUST find and drive on their famous very narrow residential streets located near the Old Quebec City, one of the main tourist attractions of this VERY exotic city. Also couple of other very narrow streets in the very same area but not accessible by car, so for pedestrians only. The other place in North America I can recall with similar very narrow streets is the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana. So what these two places, Quebec City and New Orleans, have in common: French Culture.
For a summer vacation, I strongly recommend everybody visiting Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.
More Quebec City videos to come.

Nothing interested in this part of the city, next video will gonna explore the most famous area of Quebec City, where all tourists always go to: The Old Historic Quebec City.
Stay tuned.
PS As a driver, I hate when traffic lights are vertical and horizontal in the very same area (city), it gets you distracted easily. ALL traffic lights in Ontario are vertical.
Quebec City, 3 Day Itinerary (Day 1)
Read Full Blog Post HERE:
I cannot believe the stars finally lined up for a long weekend, Quebec City, 3 Day Itinerary – a much needed weekend getaway. I’ve been to Montreal twice and was always impressed with its old town. Friends, family and fellow travel bloggers who have been to old Quebec City have told me that when it comes to the narrow cobblestone streets and historic building, you haven’t seen anything until you visit Quebec City.
Quebec City is fiercely European with an even fiercer grip on the French Canadian identity.
Nearly 4,4 million tourists visited the Quebec City region in 2016 and 800,000 were from outside of Canada. Since the St.Lawrence river is still very deep around Quebec City, it is able to accommodate cruise lines – some from as far away as Europe. Our guide, Elyse told us one summer they had seven cruise ships in one day!
Sure you can get a taste of the city in a single day – taste being the operative word as the food scene here is off the charts with a strong focus on local and regional produce. But if you can stay for a weekend, the compact size makes it perfect for walking and seeing all the Quebec City attractions.
There are some steep hills, specifically between the lower town and the upper town and in the upper town itself but rest assured I kept all that in mind when I created this itinerary.
Any additional calories you burn can be traded in for food at some of the amazing restaurants I’m about to introduce you too ????
