Rail Road Bridge in Sheffield , Alabama.
The rail and main part of this bridge was dismantled and taken to Missouri. Muscle Shoals made it into a park. It's got a very beautiful view of the Tennessee river. At the end of the bridge there is a bridge that people have taken to throwing their underwear on. Might be kids sneaking onto it at night. They use the bridge for yoga classes. You can't fish from it. You can see the water through the floor boards.

Old Railroad Bridge
The Old Railroad Bridge has not been used for transportation purposes for decades, but a local group has maintained the structure as a pedestrian bridge. It offers a beautiful view of the Tennessee River on Pickwick Lake. On the west side of the bridge you get a magnificent view of the high cliffs of the river with the O'Neal Bridge in foreground. On the east side, you can look up river and see the Wilson Dam with its spillways. The bridge once connected rail and auto traffic between Sheffield and Florence, Alabama.

Old BPOE Building, ca 1926 in Sheffield, Alabama
In this video I take a quick look at the exterior of the abandoned Elks building on Old Jackson Highway in Sheffield, Alabama. Sheffield is a hard luck town, formerly very industrial, that now features lots of urban and industrial decay.
Note: In the video, I incorrectly said the cornerstone says 1929, but it actually says 1926. I also said the Elks became racially integrated in the early 1900s, but it actually wasn't until 1976. The Elks originated in 1868, but really blossomed in membership after WWI and WWII, when men began to have leisure time, and before the advent of TV, which kept more men home with families.
At their height, there were millions of members. Today, they claim about 850,000. In their wake are countless formerly grand lodge buildings like this one, across the US.

EXPLORING: Garden City Bridges
A friend posted a photo of the old Highway 31 bridge near Garden City, Alabama on Facebook and I knew I had to to some exploring there.
When I arrived at the secluded park between two bridges over the Mulberry Branch of the Black Warrior River I was surprised to find the lot was almost full because there were a couple of groups of kayakers there to enjoy the sunny morning on the river. This made it an even better experience.
As an added surprise a train passed through as I was flying over a railway bridge nearby, adding some excitement to the morning. Since I use DJI Goggles when flying this was an odd experience, because while the drone was facing South down the railroad tracks, and the train horn was sounding from the North, I was physically facing West and hearing the horn coming from my right - my eyes and ears were sending conflicting messages. It was confusing for several seconds as I worked out where the train actually was. In the end I was able to set up a shot so the train passed underneath the drone, and that's what you see in this video.
Someday I'll go back and fly through the bridge superstructures, and down the length of the old 31 bridge. As I watched the raw footage I was kicking myself for not thinking to do it that day, but I was very excited about that train and completely forgot.

Norfolk Southern Tennessee River Bridge, Decatur, AL.
The Norfolk Southern Tennessee River Bridge is a lift bridge operated by the Norfolk Southern Railway over the Tennessee River at Decatur in the north central part of Alabama in the United States. While it is owned and operated by Norfolk Southern, the majority of the railroad traffic over the bridge is from another company, CSX Transportation.
There has been a railroad bridge or ferry at this location since the late 1850s. The bridge is on the Norfolk Southern mainline between Sheffield, Alabama and Chattanooga, Tennessee and the CSXT mainline between Birmingham, Alabama and Nashville, Tennessee (S&NA North Subdivision).
This bridge also serves as a vital link between North Alabama and Greater Birmingham/Central Alabama. The Port of Decatur, which serves as an intramodal terminal for many industries in the region, benefits from the bridge's important location inside Decatur.
Both CSX and Norfolk Southern share this common Tennessee River crossing. Norfolk Southern owns the tracks and the bridge, and leases space to CSX for its crossing.
First bridge built on this spot was burned during the Civil War, replaced with a pontoon bridge. A swing bridge was built in 1885, and it was replaced by this modern drawbridge in 1978-79.

Spring Park Tuscumbia Alabama
Park Springs and Coldwater Park Tuscumbia, Alabama
Park Springs and Coldwater Park dates back to the early 1800s. It provided water for the town founded on its banks. Michael Dickson from Tennessee was the first settler about 1817. The town was laid out in 1819 and incorporated as Ococoposa. Name was changed to Tuscumbia, in 1820, in honor of Chickasaw Indian Chief Tuscumbia. Confederate and Union soldiers camped here during the Civil War. This is also the site for the Tennessee Valley Fair in the 1800s.
