Taiwan Train Journeys Ep1 Part 1 - Yuanlin City, Changhua County.
On the 3rd December 2017 I decide to jump on to the train to head south, my goal was to visit three cities in three different counties, so my first city was Yuanlin City in Changhua county where I visited a taouism temple, as well as followed an old sugar rail line track where I got to see the old South Yuanlin station, which is slowly rotting away over time.

After leaving Taroko Gorge, we visited a few places in the East Rift Valley and on the Pacific Coast. We also stayed at a surprisingly nice B & B!

Feicui Valley
The pathway is less than 1km long and takes you upriver along the Mugua, through an old tunnel with dozing ceiling-clinging bats, and along an up-and-down au naturel exposed-root section to a tributary-stream waterfall with a wadeable rock pool at its base. This is the bottom of the narrow Feicui (Emerald) Valley, increasingly popular with river tracers.
Jilitan
Up a tributary stream just inside the mouth you’ll find the placid Jilitan (Jili Pond). It was created by the Japanese as a log pond, and is now cleared. It’s the centerpiece of a new breeze-brushed park with walking paths, Chinese imperial-style arch bridges, and foot-soak facilities.
Jinlai Huilan B&B
Located north of Ruisui town on Highway 9, the Jinlai Huilan B&B is run by a delightfully warm and young husband/wife team who not long ago decided to opt out of big-city living. Its layout is motel-like. Meals are taken in the main entrance area, and the five simple, tastefully appointed rooms, in the rear and along one side, are entered directly from outside. The tableau seen from the rooms is blissfully quaint – across valley-floor farms into the Butterfly Valley, trains drumming along with percussion-like rhythm in the distance. The meals are another soothing satisfaction. The husband has international-cuisine culinary-arts training, and clearly studied well.

Butterfly Valley Resort
The Fuyuan National Forest Recreation Area is in yet another central-range valley. The park is between the towns of Guangfu and Ruisui. The focus here is eco-tourism. The Butterfly Valley Resort ( is managed by a commissioned private enterprise, and most of its amenities are just inside the park entrance. This is near Fuyuan Stream’s lower reaches, where the terrain is less steep. The resort’s amenities include a small upscale hotel, landscaped gardens, a butterfly museum, and an outdoor hot-spring spa. Guided eco-tours are available. These last 1.5 hours and take you through the gardens, along lower-area trails, and into the more rugged upper area. The upper area offers misty waterfalls, suspension bridges, and a broad camphor-tree stand. A fee is charged for non-hotel guests.
Coastal Skywalk
The new Hualien Fengbin Sky Trail is a double-thrill attraction. The “sky trail” is a 150m cliff-clinging skywalk that hangs you right out over the ocean, breakers and shore fishermen at your feet. A 20m section is transparent. The trail follows a narrow old path hacked from the cliff face, which connected local villages during the Japanese period. The second thrill is that your access walk is along a retired cliff-edge section of Highway 11. Your skywalk return is through an old highway tunnel, today filled with gift and snack stands.
Dashibi Hill
The hill on the south side of Jiqi Beach is easily ascended. It juts out into the sea, and the highway curves around it inland. The wood-stair pathway to the top, the Dashibi Hill Trail, starts at a highway-side parking lot and takes about 15 easy minutes to conquer. Your reward is splendid views of the rugged coastline north and south, local fishing craft out at sea, and the highway-side indigenous village inland.
Jiqi Beach
Jiqi Beach offers 3km of soft sandy shoreline in a shallow bay surrounded by mountain on three sides. This is the first good swimming beach south of Hualien City. On the south end is a resort with water- and beach-fun equipment, a snack shop, a retail/gift shop, and a camping area with covered wooden platforms.

One of the founding project of Shu-Yi & Dancers is that we take our winner piece,《1875 Ravel & Bolero》,in Sadler's Wells Theatre (England)'s first International Dance Competition Award to tour around Taiwan. There will be no stage or lights during the performace. We attempt to dance all over the public space in Taiwan, and let people unexpectedly meet our dance.

【比爾先生】阿里山*二延平步道~Alishan Eryanping Trail~雲瀑

二延平步道的入口位於阿里山公路53.5公路旁，入口即有觀景平台，原有的步道約800公尺，來回約50分鐘，步道路徑是早年山上居民開墾時，從隙頂山與二延平山間的空隙通過。
新增的步道從原步道終點的涼亭，再往山上闢建登山木棧道，沿途有竹林、奇石、茶園等不同的風光，並可俯瞰嘉義平原、仁義潭及蘭潭水庫等風景，天氣晴朗時，還可遙望東石與布袋外港，往東可眺望玉山群峰山景。冬季有機會看到雲瀑、雲海，夕陽美景更吸引許多攝影人士專程前往拍照。

Dongyin
Dongyin is actually two islands, joined by a causeway. Two hours from Nangan by ferry, this is Taiwan’s northernmost point, a windswept outpost of tremendous natural beauty, with Matsu’s most thrilling scenery, a place of lofty granite cliffs and rocky spurs projecting out into the teal-green sea.
The cape-tip is at the northern end of a peninsula called the Reclining Alligator – the resemblance is indeed striking – and atop the alligator’s well-defined snout, at the peninsula’s southern tip, is Stronghold No. 33. The highlight of this abandoned facility is the decommissioned US-made twin-barrel M1 40mm anti-aircraft gun on display, which a signboard tells you “weighs 51,350 pounds, has a range of 11,000 meters, (and can fire) 160 rounds per minute.”
The Andong Tunnel, on the east side of Dongyin Island, is a superlative work of engineering, shooting right through a small mountain and exiting far down below at sea level. The area outside the entrance is protected habitat for the Black-tailed Gull and Black-naped Tern. Inside the tunnel are now-unused barracks, bathrooms, a kitchen, a meeting hall … even a pigsty.
Located at the easternmost tip of Dongyin Island, the brilliant-white Dongyong Lighthouse’s physical setting – stark, lonely beauty. The lighthouse is perched, at first glance seemingly quite precariously, on the precipitous-angle flank of a mountain, the great sea looming before, nothing in view. The mountain’s upper half looms behind and above, nothing of human creation in view. On the dizzyingly steep complex walkways, you look straight down into the sea at your feet. Completed in 1877, designed by an Englishman in 18th-century British style, this lighthouse is Taiwan’s northernmost national heritage site.
A stone-step trail behind the lighthouse leads to the Suicide Cliff, where ocean waves have cut deep into a mountainside, sculpting a vertical 100-meter-high wall on one side. The site is so-named because, according to island lore, pirates infested the local waters during much of the imperial Qing dynasty, and during one attack a Dongyin woman, her husband killed, chose to leap from the cliff rather than surrender her chastity.
A Thread of Sky, a deep and exceedingly narrow sea-erosion trench, splices two giant blocks of granite, towering rock walls facing each other just meters apart. The outer block is being cut from the mainland like a slice of birthday cake. Fallen slabs high up actually connect the cliffs in places. From the bottom only a thin, bright-blue ribbon of sky is seen.
TAIWAN NORTH COAST Bicycle Ride (北海岸自行車之旅)
One a fine day in December rented a bike in the town of Sanzhi and rode along the coast to Fugui Lighthouse, at the northernmost point of Taiwan. The bikeway is great, the scenery is pretty, and I enjoyed a lovely day there. :)

Sanzhi Visitor Center
Located on a hill and surrounded by mountains, Sanzhi Visitor Center’s main building has a Tang dynasty architectural style in simple but elegant colors. Inside, as well as information for visitors, leaflets and a leisure space, there is also The Gallery of Four Famous Sons of Sanzhi.
Yuanxing House
Situated behind Sanzhi Visitor Center, this is the old residence of former President Lee Teng-hui. This traditional southern Fujian courtyard building has the black tile and brick wall charm of Taiwanese old houses.
Shuangwan Bike Path
Lovely coastal scenery can be enjoyed on the eight-kilometer bicycle path from Qianshui Bay in Sanzhi District to Baisha Bay in Shimen District, including Qianshui Bay, Mingzhu Gongwang Temple, and Linshanbi where beach scenery, tidal zone ecology and windkanter can be enjoyed.
Fude Water Wheel Park
Located opposite Sanzhi Visitor Center, this park offers a landscape decorated with various water wheels and a variety of plants and flowers that compete for attention in different seasons. Cross over the red scenic bridge to enjoy the scenery on both banks of Balian Creek.
Linshanbi Recreation Area
Linshanbi Recreation Area, close to Baisha Bay, has a walking trail and plank walkway, with luxuriant woodland, rich natural ecology, and pleasant scenery. It also has a windkanter landscape created by the piling up of andesite volcanic rock, and is a great place to watch the sunset.
Baisha Bay
This crescent-shaped one-kilometer long bay between Linshanbi and Fugui Cape Park boasts pure white sand and clear water. Offering various water activities, it is a popular place to play in the water during the summer.
Fugui Cape Park/Fugui Lighthouse
Fugui Cape Park has a diverse geological landscape featuring windkanter, trenches and sand dunes etc. The main landmark in the park is the lighthouse, which was completed in 1897. The northernmost lighthouse in mainland Taiwan it is octagonal in shape and has black and white stripes, which is quite unique.
Laomei Green Reef
The reef originally was a coastal volcanic reef that was subject to scouring by waves over a long period of time, washing away the softer rock and leaving behind the hard rock in the form of troughs. In April and May the reef is covered in green sea algae, creating a unique scene. Visitors asked to stay well away from the reef to protect the natural environment.
Walking On A Narrow Bridge
Many travelers have to cross Wangchu river in Peeping. Before they used to cross the river by using Ropeway. However, this bridge was under construction and we had a tough time while walking on a narrow deck. This bridge is now fully completed.

Featuring an outdoor pool and fitness centre, Atunas Holiday Country is conveniently situated within a 17-minute walk to the well-known Siraya National Scenic Area. It provides complimentary parking and offers comfortable rooms with free Wi-Fi access.
The property is just a 7-minute drive to Bai Ma Pavilion Nature Trails and Dongshan River Water Park. Tseng Wen Reservoir is a 12-minute drive away, while Chiayi Airport, Chiayi Train Station and Chiayi Bus Station can be reached within a 2-hour drive.
Fitted with wooden flooring, air-conditioned rooms are furnished with a flat-screen TV, mini fridge and seating area. Rooms feature an en suite bathroom that comes with a separate shower facility, hairdryer and free toiletries.

舞蹈旅行計畫 3 度出走 Dance-Travel Project III - 台東 兒童故事館 Taitung Children Story House
[臺東兒童故事館]的彩繪園地，是舞蹈旅行以來，遇到最燙、最多彩、最不規則的地板。
排練前，書毅以最嚴謹的態度，帶著大家模擬實際尺寸演練，要求舞者們測量距離、自我保護。
演出前，早已熟悉一切，準備以最淋漓盡致的肢體、情緒，獻給在場的大、小朋友。
演出時，舞者們臉上燦爛的笑，勝了陽光的豔、服裝的靚、地板的繽紛。依然燙，不怕！
有觀眾說：「有夢很美，但實現它是辛苦的，你們做到了。」
就這樣，我們以無數次排練、多次走位，完成了這唯一的一場，在[臺東兒童故事館]彩繪園地的演出。

《波麗露》是拉威爾最後的一部舞曲作品，創作於1928年。這是他舞蹈音樂方面的一部最優秀的作品，同時又是二十世紀法國交響曲的一部傑作。

这是我第一次去到花莲。嗯，不负众望，花莲实在太美了。大自然也太壮观，我整个心花怒放。对于我这种向来住在城市的小孩来说，其实真的很难得吧。也是种享受，可以放慢脚步欣赏大自然的美。
My first time to Hualien & I must say it really didn’t disappoint. It’s as amazing and beautiful as it could be. I’m simply astonished and mesmerized by the beauty of mother nature ???? It’s a really different experience for a city child like me, since it’s not everyday we get to be with nature and appreciate the beauty of it.
