Old Rainworth Stone Store is a heritage-listed storehouse at Wealwandangie Road, Cairdbeign, Central Highlands Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built in 1862 by George Goldring. It is also known as Old Rainworth Fort and Rainworth Head Station Store. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.

Situated at Springsure in Queensland, the Old Rainworth Fort has connections with a Massacre of 19 white people by blacks in October 1861. We had a look at the massacre site, and the Old Rainworth Fort ....... or was it a fort? 4wdozdvd.com

The Aboriginal resistance to the encroachment of Europeans was courageous and violent. At Cullin-la-ringo (north-west of the town) a group of Kairi warriors killed nineteen people in the largest recorded massacre of whites in Australian history. It is likely that the massacre was prompted by a combination of frustration at the loss of land and as an act of revenge for the atrocities which were being committed with monotonous regularity by both the whites (who were eager to rid themselves of the Aborigines) and the dreaded native police who had stolen tribal women. It is ironic that the massacre at Cullin-la-Ringo was probably as a result of an attack made on the local Aborigines by Jesse Gregson who was manager of Rainworth Station. The local Aborigines had 'stolen' 300 sheep (they probably thought they had a right to them as when Gregson arrived at their camp they invited him to share their meal) and Gregson responded by shooting a number of them. 10 Km out of Springsure Queensland is the Historic Rainworth Fort. A substantial stone building, built following the massacre of 18 pioneer settlers nearby, The school house and a 7 room station house has been rellocated to the site adding to the interest of my visit . I was impressed with the range and quality of memorobilia on display.

Australia Adventures - Outback Day 5 - Carnarvon National Park - Kangaroo

This was certainly one of our favourite days in the Outback.
We hiked the over 14 km around the Carnarvon Gorge. It was never treacherous, in fact it was splendid due to the flora, foliage, and fauna surrounding us.
We indulged in lunch when we finally made it back to the car.
Our thrilling adventure did not end there...
Next we jumped into an absolutely freezing rock pool at the Gorge, chancing to bump into a friendly eel. Truly, could it get any better?
