Walking in RIGA / Latvia - Old Town to Market Halls - 4K 60fps (UHD)
A winter walk in the windy Latvian capital. We are going from the train station over to the old town. No vlog, no intrusive faces or talking - just realtime walking enjoying the streets of Riga.
We head to the Riga castle and over a few Christmas markets. This walk follows many sights of Riga like the Freedom monument, Powder Tower, Swedish Gate. There is a lot of wind noise here sometimes - sorry about that.
I somehow missed a turn going to the House of the Blackheads. When you are there, make sure to stop by. I added a photo in the cover at least.
We end the walk strolling through the market halls and head back at the train station.
Filmed in early January 2019
Camera: Osmo Pocket in 4K60
Mic: Zoom H1
Note: The silence for ca. 40 sec from 50:26 is due to some background music on the street that had to get deleted.

Exploring Riga, Latvia - May 2019
A detailed exploration of the city of Riga, the capital of Latvia, taken over several days in May 2019.
I've just added a new film to my Tourism: Latvia playlist, here: of a detailed exploration of the city of Riga in Latvia.
Riga is the capital, the largest and primate city of Latvia. With 632,614 inhabitants (2019), it is also the largest city in the three Baltic states, home to one third of Latvia's population and one tenth of the three Baltic states' combined population. The city lies on the Gulf of Riga, at the mouth of the Daugava river. To read more about Riga, click here: .
This film begins at Riga Bus Station, before moving into the Old Town, from here the streets, statues, buildings, architecture, businesses and churches are explored. Outside of the Old Town, the journey heads across parkland towards The Radisson Blu hotel and from the top floor Skyline Bar there are impressive views of Riga. Back into The Old Town St. Peter's Church is explored and then from the tower there are again views over the city of Riga. After this there is a short tour of The Old Town on a beer bike, before further exploration of the streets and squares, and then a walk through the Old Town to the markets and then on to the Latvian Academy of Sciences Observation deck for sunset views over the city. The journey them moves on to the railway station, for views of passing trains. Finally the film ends outside the railway station, watching a firework display.

Riga (Latvia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Riga in Latvia.
Riga is the capital of Latvia, a Hanseatic city and European capital of culture. Saint Petri Church is located in the centre of the city and has a long and varied history. It features inner cross vaults modelled on those of the dome of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck’s cathedral, plus a circular arch and sturdy, red brick walls. It is one of the most important sacred buildings of the Middle Ages and is closely linked with the development of the city. Mentzendorff House was a manorial property which German merchants had built at the end of the seventeenth century. Carefully renovated, its original splendour has been fully restored. The middle class buildings of Elisabeth and Albert Street indicate the prosperity of its past occupants. Like almost nowhere else, art nouveau has been preserved incredibly well with lavish embellishments and numerous motifs. Marien Cathedral is situated in the centre of the city and is the most important religious building in the Baltic States. Its age, dimensions and contrasting architectural styles bear witness to a long history and its famous organ, built in 1883, contains a hundred and twenty four registers and almost seven thousand wooden and metal pipes. In keeping with the age-old traditions of the Hanseatic League, the very heart of the Baltic beats within Latvia's metropolis and, with an elegant lust for life, Riga is an extraordinary treasure!

Riga (Latvia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Riga in Latvia.
Riga is the capital of Latvia, a Hanseatic city and European capital of culture. Petri Church has been at the centre of various conflicts between the military order of the Livonian Brothers Of The Sword, and the local population. In 1666, its tower collapsed, buried eight people and, in 1721, lightning destroyed it completely. Czar Peter The Great had it rebuilt, a hundred and twenty seven metres high and with a wonderful view. Mentzendorff House was a manorial property which German merchants had built at the end of the seventeenth century. Carefully renovated, its original splendour has been fully restored along with its splendid ceilings. Where today is the highest television tower in Europe, the Latvians strived to fight for their independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Latvia has frequently been occupied by the Crusaders, the Teutonic Order, the Swedes, and finally, the Tsars. The Open Air Museum Of Folk Culture was built in 1924 and is one of the oldest open air museums in Europe. From each of Latvia’s regions, dwelling houses, churches and windmills have been re-assembled, with furniture and everyday objects. Situated on the picturesque shores of Lake Juglas the museum recalls the daily life of Latvia’s farmers, craftsmen and fishermen. In keeping with the age-old traditions of the Hanseatic League, the very heart of the Baltic beats within Latvia's metropolis, and also with an elegant lust for life, Riga is an extraordinary treasure!

Latvia. Old Riga (overview)
Only remnants of the fortification wall remain that enclosed the city from the 13th to 18th century. But the narrow streets of cobblestone, and a multitude of Medieval architectural wonders are still standing, first and foremost being the churches and their steeples – making for a solely unique skyline.
