Old Sturbridge Village 2007
A visit to Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts, where a village from 1789 is recreated and folk dress in period costume and work as they would have back then, a great journey through time at this open air museum, we just spent a day there in September 2007, but in the seasons where events take place it would be great to spend a whole weekend there.

WALKING AROUND OLD STURBRIDGE
Independence Day at Old Sturbridge Village
An old-fashioned good time will be had by all on Independence Day at Old Sturbridge Village. Visitors will have the chance to take part in a citizens’ parade, play 19th-century style “baseball,” march with the militia, make a tri-cornered hat, and sign their “John Hancocks” on a giant copy of the Declaration of Independence. Summer barbecue food will be available for purchase along with beer and wine; visitors may also enjoy a picnic on the Common. Children and families will especially enjoy a little physical activity and friendly competition with “Farm Yard Games.”
An exciting feature of the Independence Day festivities is the firing of a reproduction cannon. The cannon has been in production for a few years and is a working model of a “Heavy 3-Pounder,” meant to fire 3-pound balls. The cast-iron cannon barrel was made in the 1970s by the LaPans Foundry in Hudson Falls, New York, and purchased by Old Sturbridge Village a few years ago.
Watch and be inspired by a citizen naturalization ceremony on the Village Common. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will present scores of candidates to the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and they will pledge their Oath of Allegiance to the United States for the very first time. Old Sturbridge Village Singers will perform patriotic songs during the ceremony.

Sturbridge RV Resort - TT - Sturbridge, MA
Liked our time at Sturbridge, even tho I did not think we would in the beginning. I misspoke. The park is open from APRIL 8 to OCTOBER 23. Just be aware that wifi signal and, sometimes even phone signal can be iffy - at least they were for our Verizon. If you absolutely have to be connected 24/7 and do not want to sign up for the campground's pay-for-use, you might find this place frustrating. In fact, I am not sure if you can get the pay-for-use wifi at your site or if you have to go to the lodge.
Dutch Oven Gathering - Old Sturbridge Village
On June 9th we held a Dutch Oven Gathering at the historic Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts.
We setup next to the Central Meeting House on the West side of the museum.
For those of you that don’t know, Old Sturbridge Village is an outdoor living history museum situated on more than 200 acres.
It is a sort of live time capsule of a small New England village stashed away in 1830. Costumed staff complete the experience as farmers and artisans from the time period. With more than 40 historic buildings and homes, it’s a great place to experience history.
Each day, the costumed interpreters at Old Sturbridge Village demonstrate 19th-century cooking using 19th century techniques. Often they used their “bake ovens” on a hearth.
Throughout the day we demonstrated the modern-day equivalent of kettle cooking. It was a blast talking to visitors of the museum as well as connecting with friends from previous DOGS.
The day saw 17 dishes made. We visited with guests of the museum from as far away as Germany.
The staff, led by our friend Ruth, were amazing.
Over 30 of us shared in the meal and I can attest they were all awesome.
The only thing better than the food was the people and friendships.
If you’re in the area, Old Sturbridge Village is a must see, it’s a true treasure.
Now, Get out there and cook!
