Western Poland (#08): Klodzko, Ladek-Zdrój
The Land of Klodzko is surrounded by mountain ranges forming a natural barrier separating it from the rest of Silesia and creating a kind of individual enclave. The military importance of this part of present Silesia region necessitated that a new town be raised ... namely Klodzko. First mention of this town comes from the 10th century and until the beginning of 17th century, the Land of Klodzko was under Czech political and economical influences. Between the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century, the Land of Klodzko was under Austrian domination and after so-called Treaty of Hubertusburg of 1763; this region was Prussian until 1871 and German until the end of World War II.
Ladek-Zdrój (German: Bad Landeck) is a town in Klodzko County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. It is the seat of the administrative district (gmina) called Gmina Ladek-Zdrój, close to the Czech border. Prior to 1945 it was in Germany.
It lies approximately 20 kilometres (12 mi) south-east of Klodzko, and 88 kilometres (55 mi) south of the regional capital Wroclaw. As at 2006, the town has a population of 6,181. Ladek-Zdrój became famous in Poland because of Stanislaw Bareja's cult film Incredibly peaceful man (Niespotykanie spokojny czlowiek.)
Ladek-Zdrój is one of the oldest health resorts in Europe, surrounded by the Golden Mountains, not far from the majestic summit of Snieznik towering over the Klodzko Land. The town attracted patients and tourists for centuries. The location of the town, the charm of the old town part , together with the greenery of the spa parks create a unique atmosphere.
Western Poland (#10): Klodzko Fortress
Klodzko Fortress (Polish: Twierdza w Klodzku, German: Festung Glatz) is a unique fortification complex of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in southwestern Poland. The fortress once was one of the biggest strongholds in Prussian Silesia, however, in the whole German Empire, it was regarded as a minor one. Now, together with an extensive network of tunnels, it is one of the biggest attractions of the town of Klodzko, with its underground labyrinth and a repository of for different objects, from old fire engines to local glassware.
First mentions of existence of a stronghold placed on Klodzko's Castle Hill come from the Chronicle of Bohemians, written by Cosmas of Prague. Most probably, it was a complex of wooden buildings, protected with a palisade. Klodzko itself is located along the strategic route between Wroclaw and Prague, and its role as a trading point must have been significant since the early Middle Ages. In 1114, the stronghold was captured and destroyed by Czech troops under prince Sobeslav, who at the same time conquered the whole Klodzko Land. In 1129, Sobeslav rebuilt the town and placed a castellan there. Sometime around 1300, a spacious castle was built on the hill, which became seat of the Klodzko County. Gradually, the castle grew, a church and a chapel were added and in 1557, Lorenz Krischke, architect at the court of Prince Ernest of Bavaria, built the Lower Castle. In the 16th century, there were five wells in the castle with the oldest one from 1393.
In 1622, during the Thirty Years' War, after the long siege, the fortress was captured by the Austrian Army. The city was besieged in June of that year, but resisted the attackers. Finally, the Austrians brought in two large cannons - the Wingless Dragon and the Black Sow to fire upon the walls of Glatz and the city surrendered on October 25. In subsequent years the Austrians modernized the fortress and replaced ancient fortifications with up-to-date bastions.

Western Poland (#05): Vang Church
Karpacz (German Krummhübel) is a spa town and ski resort in Jelenia Góra County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, south-western Poland, and one of the most important centres for mountain hiking and skiing. Its population is about 5,000. Karpacz is situated in the Karkonosze mountains - a resort with increasing importance for tourism as an alternative to the Alps. Karpacz is located at 480-885 metres above sea level. South of Karpacz on the border to the Czech Republic there is Mount Snežka-Snieska (1,602 m). In Karpacz Górny there is a Norwegian stave church, moved here from Vang, Norway in the mid-19th century.
Wang Church was built at the turn of 12th century in Vang which accounts for its present name. Vang was a settlement at Lake Vang in southern Norway.
Lake Wang (Vangsmjosi in Norway) set 466 m above sea level surrounded by high mountains where Mount Grindafjellet (1724 m above sea level), their most famous peak used to be a dwelling place for Tindull Grindo, a troll, in the olden days. A circle marks a former site of the Wang church.
About a thousand similar wooden (stave) churches were built there then, yet till the present day only thirty one such churches survived in Norway, and this one in Karpacz Górny. Our Twin Parish in Hahnenklee, Germany, has also a wooden church built in 1908 according to the Norwegian designs.
In the nineteenth century Wang Church proved too small and in need of costly renovation, and so a decision to sell it was made. The money was needed to pay back a loan taken for the construction of a new one.
Thanks to the efforts of a Dresden-based Norwegian painter, Professor John Christian Dahl, this great architectural experience of the Vikings was bought for the sum of 427 marks by the then king, Frederick William IV. A royal architect completed the working plan of the church building, and the edifice was taken to pieces so as to be shipped, in boxes, to Szczecin in 1841 and from there - to the Royal Museum in Berlin. The King, however, had abandoned the idea of having it reerected on the Peacock Island near Berlin and started seeking another site for the church to render its religious services.

TWIERDZA KŁODZKO
Kłodzko Fortress
Kłodzko Fortress (Polish: Twierdza w Kłodzku, German: Festung Glatz) is a unique fortification complex of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in southwestern Poland. The fortress once was one of the biggest strongholds in Prussian Silesia, however, in the whole German Empire, it was regarded as a minor one.[1] Now, together with an extensive network of tunnels, it is one of the biggest attractions of the town of Kłodzko, with its underground labyrinth and a repository of for different objects, from old fire engines to local glassware.[2]
History
First mentions of existence of a stronghold placed on Kłodzko's Castle Hill come from the Chronicle of Bohemians, written by Cosmas of Prague. Most probably, it was a complex of wooden buildings, protected with a palisade. Kłodzko itself is located along the strategic route between Wrocław and Prague, and its role as a trading point must have been significant since the early Middle Ages. In 1114 the stronghold was captured and destroyed by Czech troops under prince Soběslav, who at the same time reconquered the whole area.
In 1129 Soběslav rebuilt the town and placed a castellan there. Some time around 1300, a spacious castle was built on the hill, which became seat of the Kłodzko County. Gradually, the castle grew, a church and a chapel were added and in 1557, Lorenz Krischke, architect at the court of Prince Ernest of Bavaria, built the Lower Castle.[3] In the XVI century, there were five wells in the castle with the oldest one from 1393.
In 1622, during the Thirty Years' War, after the long siege, the fortress was captured by the Austrian Army. The city was besieged in June of that year, but for a long time resisted the attackers. Finally, the Austrians brought in two large cannons - the Wingless Dragon and the Black Sow to fire upon the walls of Glatz and the city surrendered on October 25.[4] In subsequent years the Austrians modernized the fortress and replaced ancient fortifications with up-to-date bastions.
View of the bastions
In 1742, during the War of the Austrian Succession the city together with its stronghold was conquered by Prussia under Frederick II. The city itself surrendered on January 14, but the fortress, with 2000 soldiers, held out until April 25, when starvation made further resistance impossible. Out of the initial Austrian garrison of 2000, only 200 survived, pale as shadows.[5] The Prussians expanded the fortress, making it a defensive one. Major works continued during the Silesian Wars, until 1770, however, the fortress was not fully completed 200 years after the Austrians began to modernize it.[6]
In the XIX century, the stronghold, which in 1807 was captured by the French Army supported by Bavarian troops[7] became a prison. Interestingly enough, in early XIX century, due to economic depression, prisoners earnings in Glatz were so low that the administration would send a prisoner every Saturday to beg for help in the city.[8] Among prisoners there, was a British Army captain Bertrand Stewart, who in 1911 was accused of espionage and released in 1913.[9] During World War II , the stronghold was not only a prisoner-of-war camp, but a branch of the Gross-Rosen concentration camp.[10]

The Best Stunning Lower Silesia # Poland
Ksiaz Castle: In 2015 this place made global headlines after two treasure hunters claimed a Nazi train full of gold was buried under its ramparts. Nothing was found, but there's a vast network of underground tunnels dug by the Nazis and rumors the bastion was being lined up as Hitler's headquarters. Perched on a hill surrounded by forest near the town of Walbrzych, Książ Castle is one of the most impressive sights in the country. Wroclaw Old Town: Picturesque Wroclaw is the economic, cultural and educational powerhouse of Lower Silesia and one of Poland's top attractions. Wroclaw, Ostrow Tumski: Charming Ostrów Tumski (Cathedral Island) is one of the city's main highlights, alongside Centennial Hall and the Aula Leopoldina in the University. Aula Leopoldina, Wroclaw: The Baroque hall of the Aula Leopoldina in the Museum of the University of Wroclaw is a frescoed delight, while the best views of the Old Town can be found in the university's Mathematical Tower. Wrocław Afrykarium: Wroclaw is home to the oldest and most impressive zoo in Poland. The unique Afrykarium is an oceanarium dedicated to the fauna of Africa. Klodzko Old Town: Set in a valley encircled by the Sudetes mountain range, charming Klodzko has Czech-influenced architecture, a splendid Gothic stone bridge and an impressive fortress with breathtaking views. Klodzko fortress: With far-reaching views over the town and countryside and a fascinating network of underground tunnels to explore, the castle at Klodkzo is one of the highlights of a visit. Church of Peace, Swidnica: The Churches of Peace are timber-framed religious buildings that were constructed by the Silesian Protestants after the conclusion of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. Originally there were three but only two have survived, in Jawor and Świdnica. The largest timber-framed churches in Europe, the Churches of Peace have impressive interiors with Baroque ornaments and splendid altars. Ząbkowice Śląskie: Famous for its former Germanic name Frankenstein, which is said to have inspired Mary Shelley's novel, Polish Ząbkowice Śląskie is now on the tourist trail with sights like the Leaning Tower, dubbed the Silesian Pisa. Skull Chapel in Czermna: Outside it may look like a small, charming Baroque chapel. Inside, it's a palace of death. Its walls and ceiling are decorated with 3,000 skulls and bones belonging to the victims of wars and diseases. Vang Stave Church: The wooden church, built without a single nail, was founded in the 12th century in Vang parish in southern Norway. It was bought by famous Norwegian painter J.C. Dahl in 1841 to save it from demolition and re-erected on its present site in the Karkonosze Mountains. Lubiaz Abbey: Lower Silesia is renowned as a land of abbeys, but perhaps the most famous is Lubiąż, the largest Cistercian monastery in the world. Its checkered past includes a spell as a Nazi research laboratory for V1 and V2 rockets before the Soviet army made itself at home. Jelenia Gora: With a large number of spectacular palaces, beautiful historic gardens and a charming historic center, the Jelenia Góra valley is often nicknamed the Polish Loire after the world-famous French region. Błędne Skały: This magical labyrinth of giant rocks in the Stołowe Mountains National Park was used as a location for the film Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Nicknamed the Polish Narnia, its unusual mushroom-shaped boulders, mysterious caverns and picturesque gorges are the perfect setting for a fantasy movie. Szczeliniec Wielki: The best views of the surrounding valleys and Sudetes range can be seen from the panoramic terrace on the top of Szczeliniec Wielki, the highest peak (919 meters) in the Table Mountains National Park. Polanica-Zdroj: Relaxing atmosphere, beautiful walking paths, luxurious health resorts and proximity to the majority of the regional attractions make the small city of Polanica-Zdrój one of the most popular spa destinations in Poland.

My channel on you tube : is one of the most prolific from Poland. I have produced over 2,350 original films.
My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects.

I am very fortunate that I can spend a large part of my life travelling, thanks to the business I chose to run which allows me to do this. There are a number of films here on the packaging industry. This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging -- - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focusing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers.
Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine!
Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region. Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film!

PRAGUE:
is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic. It is the 14th largest city in the European Union. It is also the historical capital of Bohemia. Situated in the north-west of the country on the Vltava river, the city is home to about 1.4 million people, while its larger urban zone is estimated to have a population of 2.2 million. The city has a temperate climate, with warm summers and chilly winters.
Prague has been a political, cultural, and economic centre of central Europe with waxing and waning fortunes during its history. Founded during the Romanesque and flourishing by the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque eras, Prague was the capital of the kingdom of Bohemia and the main residence of several Holy Roman Emperors, most notably of Charles IV (r. 1346–1378). It was an important city to the Habsburg Monarchy and its Austro-Hungarian Empire. The city played major roles in the Bohemian and Protestant Reformation, the Thirty Years' War, and in 20th-century history as the capital of Czechoslovakia, during both World Wars and the post-war Communist era.
Prague is home to a number of famous cultural attractions, many of which survived the violence and destruction of 20th-century Europe. Main attractions include the Prague Castle, the Charles Bridge, Old Town Square with the Prague astronomical clock, the Jewish Quarter, Petřín hill and Vyšehrad. Since 1992, the extensive historic centre of Prague has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
Kłodzko stare miasto i most św. Jana rzeka Nysa
Most św.
