Old Town (Lansing, Michigan )
BEING A TOURIST IN OUR OWN TOWN:/// Lansing, Michigan
Hi Explorers!
We are super excited to share with you this week’s epic adventure- think planes, trains, automobiles- and bonus- bus and boat- all in 7 hours! We partnered with the Greater Lansing Convention & Visitors Bureau for their epic annual event Be a Tourist in Your Own Town, to find the most adventurous things to do in Lansing, Michigan.
We have lived in Lansing for almost 5 years - and we have never participated in the Be a Tourist in Your Own Town because as members of the community we thought we had seen it all. We are members or the museum, we have annual zoo passes- we are pretty involved. But we were dead wrong! We are super grateful for this event because almost everything we decided to see and do - was totally new to us!
So how it works: You purchase a passport for $1.00 which gives you free our heavily discounted admission to tons of locations during the day of the event. Some locations stamp your passport and if you get enough stamps you can enter to win prizes and you know we love a good Hall family challenge!
We started our adventure at the Greater Lansing Convention & Visitors Bureau. We got our first stamp and some cool sunglasses!
Next stop- we booked it to the Michigan History Museum and jumped back in time and onto a real, Ford Model T!
Our next stop was the Lansing Airport- we are no stranger to this place! We did a long distance relationship for 5 years and it actually is kind of like a second home to us- but we really wanted to go because they had smaller airplanes that the boys could sit in and we have some adventures coming up that we thought this would be perfect preparation for!
On our way however the sky started getting super dark…but we were feeling lucky and decided to go anyway! The storm caught up with us so we had to shift gears- we were planning on going sailing, but I guess that’s not safe to during a thunderstorm so we looked at our passport book and picked a nearby attraction…and I am just so glad that it worked out that way!
We went to R.J. Scheffel Memorial Toy Project, an amazing place where volunteers make wooden toys and games for needy and disadvantaged kids. The volunteers were some of the sweetest people we have ever met and they were so excited to show us their craft. It was probably my favorite stop just because of the wonderful people!
Jonah is recently obsessed with the car wash- he asks to go to it probably more than Chuck E Cheese and the playground. There was an event going on at the CATA bus storage facility where you could actually go through a gigantic car wash in a huge CATA bus, which got two thumbs up from Jonah!
Our next stop was a sentimental one for Chris. He grew up building model trains with his grandpa and often talks about wanting to do that with Jonah and Jude. When we saw The Lansing Model Railroad Club in the passport we knew we had to go!
We had 1 hour left - and the time was ticking…. how could we end the event on the most epic note possible? After flipping through the passport we found out that just outside of Lansing, there is a place in Holt called Burchfield park and they had free paddle boat rides. Not only was this park totally new to us, but it was Chris’ first time ever on a paddle boat, which made for a very interesting experience!
Thank you so much to the Greater Lansing Convention & Visitors Bureau! We cannot tell you how much we appreciate your support! And thank YOU for watching!
And if you haven’t already please subscribe, and ring that bell so we can take you with us on our adventures every week…and smash that like button… have a great week! Adios!

The Lansing Metropolitan Area, colloquially referred to as Mid-Michigan, is an important center for educational, cultural, governmental, commercial, and industrial functions
Lansing, Michigan
Lansing is the capital of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located mostly in Ingham County, although portions of the city extend west into Eaton County and north into Clinton County. The 2010 Census placed the city's population at 114,297, making it the fifth largest city in Michigan. The population of its Metropolitan Statistical Area was 464,036, while the even larger Combined Statistical Area population, which includes Shiawassee County, was 534,684. It was named the new state capital of Michigan in 1847, ten years after its admittance as a state.
The Lansing Metropolitan Area, colloquially referred to as Mid-Michigan, is an important center for educational, cultural, governmental, commercial, and industrial functions. The area is home to two medical schools, one veterinary school, two nursing schools, two law schools—including Western Michigan University and Michigan State University—a Big Ten Conference university, the Michigan State Capitol, the state Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, a federal court, the Library of Michigan and Historical Center, and headquarters of four national insurance companies.

Lansing Michigan from the Air - Aerial Drone Film Reel
Michigan is a prominent state known for Motor City and for its vital role in the leading the automobile industrial revolution. Today, it is still known for its industry leading manufacturing facilities supporting the transportation and aerospace fields. Lansing is home to the State Capitol and Michigan State University. I have had many opportunities to visit my company’s manufacturing facility in Lansing and also explore what the city has to offer on my own. Here are some of the highlights of my best memories of Mid-Michigan!

Old Trucks - Northern Michigan
I ran across some old trucks by the side of the road near Mason, Michigan. There is a town called Mason in the lower peninsula but this was the Mason near Hubbell, on the Keweenaw Peninsula. I don't know much about them but just thought they looked picturesque and were worth a quick visit.
