Niepokalanów (Poland) - Basilica and Franciscan monastery-sanctuary

Niepokalanów monastery (so called City of the Immaculate Mother of God) is a Roman Catholic religious community in Teresin (42 km to the west from Warsaw), Poland founded in 1927 by Friar Minor Conventual Friar Maximilian Kolbe, who was later canonized as a saint-martyr of the Catholic Church. After the war the printing house in Niepokalanów was reopened and The Knight of the Immaculate was issued again. In 1948-1954 there was built a new church, since April 1980 called basilica minor. In June 1950, according to the decree of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski, a new parish in Niepokalanów was established (6500 faithful circa). The church and the monastery were visited by Pope John Paul II during his second Pastoral Visit in Poland, on 18 of June 1983. The visit of the Pope made Niepokalanów famous not only in Poland, but also abroad. The Pope called the monastery a heroic place where saint Maximilian lived and the environment of the Immaculate. Many pilgrims want to visit the place, sacred by activity of St Maximilian, and pray in the local basilica. They also can see the Museum of St Maximilian (called There was a Man), established in 1998, and a wooden old chapel, one of the first buildings here, constructed in 1927 for the friars and rebuilt two years later so the local faithful could attend the celebrations and services. The monastery became also a place where many religious meeting are held...

Huge inferno engulfs the top floors of a skyscraper in Warsaw

A huge fire has engulfed the top of a new skyscraper in Warsaw sending the city into lockdown. The inferno broke out at 11pm local time and the city centre of Poland's capital has been placed under lockdown to protect people from being hit by debris. The unfinished skyscraper is 426 feet tall, with reports of flaming wreckage falling from the 25th floor. According to Polish officials the top four storeys of the building are on fire and sixty firemen have been drafted in to help control the blaze. No one is known to have been inside the building at the time and no injuries or fatalities have been reported. According to the State Fire Service, the building was not open to civilians so it is unlikely anyone would have been inside the building. The building has been under construction since 2016 and is located at the intersection of two main roads, Prosta and Towarowa, by an underground train station.

Polish State Fire Service, Engine 302, Tanker 302 and Ladder 302 turning out from Gdansk Fire Station 2 to a reported gas leak in the old town.

Worth mentioning is that Fire Station 2 has received brand new trucks in the past 12 months.

Engine 302, a 2018 Mercedes Benz Atego with BoCar bodywork was delivered in June 2018.
Tanker 302, a 2019 MAN TGM with Moto-Truck bodywork was delivered this month, July 2019.
Ladder 302, a 42m Iveco Magirus was delivered in September 2018.

Mateusz & His Narrow Gauge Loco

Mat wants to restore this little 0-4-0 Orenstein & Koppel locomotive and create a forest railway in the Polish town of Dalekie-Tartak, reminiscent of the old steam worked narrow gauge lines that used to serve the logging industries in the region.

When Mat started working for Koleje Mazowieckie at the age of 20 in 2012, he was Poland's Youngest train driver.

The loco was built in Berlin in 1904, had worked at a sugar factory called Cukrownia Brześć Kujawski. Mat acquired the loco from a museum in Sochaczew and placed it on 18m of line in his back yard.

Beside Mat's line is a 1940 German built semaphore, which had been in service at Mostówka Station until recent signal upgrading.
