Places to see in ( Terracina - Italy )
Places to see in ( Terracina - Italy )
Terracina is a pleasant seaside resort in the south of the Lazio region, between Rome and Naples. It was an important port on the Roman Appian Way, and the site of a major temple to Jupiter. Nowadays the modern town spreads out on the plain below the hills, along a wide sandy beach which attracts many summer visitors.
The modern part of Terracina is unexciting but pleasant, with wide tree-lined boulevards leading to the beach west of the port. The sea and the sand are the town's main attraction for many of its Italian summer visitors. Ferries depart from the port for the Pontine Islands. A boat-lined canal leads to the harbour from the bus station area, passing the fish-hall where crates are loaded with fresh fish, and wizened old salts sit and chat on a terrace.
For more charm and historical interest, however, head for the Centro Storico, the old part of town. This lies uphill from the bus station (cross the road and find a steep hidden staircase, or take a narrow sloping road uphill). The heart of historical Terracina is Piazza del Municipio, a pretty piazza containing paving stones from the Roman Forum, a crumbling archway, the town cathedral, the headquarters of the town council and the archaeological museum. Close by you can also see an ancient paved stretch of the Appian Way.
The Cathedral (shut at lunchtimes) was built over a Roman temple to Augustus, and is an attractive building composed of a mixture of styles. Note the picture of the town on the right-hand altar (one of three decorated altars). The stone pulpit resting on four carved animals is also worth a glance. Outside there is a large stone Roman basin on display in the portico, which was supposedly used for boiling Christians, and a pretty frieze of animals tops the colonnades.
The small Museo Civico (entrance €1.55) contains ancient sculptures found in the area, and also offers a selection of guide and leaflets for sale, including a useful fold-out guide to the Temple of Jupiter.
The old town and the archaeological remains continue through the archway alongside the cathedral, where carved columns and patterned walls are exposed to view. Further on, the winding medieval streets offer a pleasant opportunity for strolling and discovering atmospheric shops and restaurants. More ruins are dotted around the upper and lower parts of town; a guide can be picked up from the museum which will help you find them.
Terracina's most unusual and striking site is the Temple of Jupiter Anxur. Anxur was the ancient Volscian name for the town; Jupiter has generally been assumed to be the deity to whom the sanctuary was dedicated. The main part of the temple is gone, but the impressive vaulted base can be seen for miles, and no visitor to Terracina should miss a trip to the fascinating hilltop site with its superb views.
At the eastern end of town, below the temple on its hill, is a monument to Roman engineering and determination. To improve the route of the Appian Way (which previously had to head inland over the hills), Trajan had the cliff cut to make way for the road. Traffic still runs past this 36m-deep cut in the rock, the Pisco Montano; axe-marks and Roman numerals indicate the workers' progress.
Cheap bars and takeaways can be found along Via Roma, including the pirate-themed Morgan Bay, where you can eat your pizza slice at indoors tables. If you want to buy a picnic, there are a couple of supermarkets along the sea-canal, and another on the way up to the temple (closed lunchtimes). Bars, pasticcerie, gelaterie and clothes shops line Via della Vittoria, which runs down to the lungomare, the seafront.
( Terracina - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Terracina . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Terracina - Italy

Terracina ITALY (svadobna cesta)
In der Altstadt von Terracina / in the historic center of Terracina
When exactly Terracina was founded can not be proven, unfortunately. According to a legend, Terracina to have been founded by Greek colonists from Sparta. There is evidence that 329 BC, the Romans conquered the Seaside City Anxur and there formed a colony citizens. The Romans called it from now Tarracina.
In its picturesque Old Town to discover some remains of the Roman ruins. A real highlight (mainly for the view) is the visit to the remains of the temple sanctuary the Giove Anxur, but is the entrance fee EUR 7 per person.
Terracina has a station on the railway line Rome-Priverno Fossano-Terracina, but this line is operated 5 times a day.
But there is frequent connections with buses of the transport company Compagnia Trasporti Spa Laziali (usually every 30 minutes) to the station Monte San Biagio (on the main railway line Rome-Naples). The company also offers bus connections to San Felice Circeo, Sabaudia, Fondi, Sperlonga, Gaeta and Formia, cotralspa.it.
In the city of Terracina there is a local bus company Consorzio Trasporti Italiani lacircolare.it.
However in Italy, the tickets must be bought in the Tabacchi shops at the central bus stations.

Places to see in ( Nettuno - Italy )
Nettuno is a town and comune of the Metropolitan City of Rome in the Lazio region of central Italy, 60 kilometres south of Rome. A resort city and agricultural center on the Tyrrhenian Sea, in the Mediterranean Sea it has a population of approximately 46,000. Its name is perhaps in honour of the Roman god Neptune. It has a touristic harbour hosting about 860 boats and a shopping center, selling everything for fishing and sailing. There is also an extensive yacht club.
Nettuno is the city of the D.O.C. wine Cacchione. Nettuno has one of the biggest bases for the Italian Force, whose territory extends to the Province of Latina, and one of the most important Italian Police Schools, where especially police dogs are trained. Nettuno is one stop south of Anzio on the local train from Rome.
According to a theory, the town would be a direct survival of the Roman Antium, which territory almost entirely corresponded to Nettuno and modern Anzio. Giuseppe Tomassetti considered Nettuno the real heir and continuer settlement of the ancient Antiates. Instead Beatrice Cacciotti doubted about an ancient and not medieval origin of the town.
Nettuno was also considered to be the location of the ancient Volscian port town of Caenon, which was the closest port of the town Antium (which did not have a natural harbour of its own). According to a more recent theory, the town Caenon would be located on a hill more east to Nettuno, and the port (similarly to the old theory above), would have been over the mouth of the river Loricina. In 469BC, the town Caenon was destroyed by the Roman consul Titus Numicius Priscus.
Nettuno is a popular tourist destination. Sights include a well-preserved old quarter, the Borgo Medievale, with mediaeval streets and small squares, and the Forte Sangallo, a castle built in 1503 by Renaissance architect Antonio da Sangallo the Elder.
Nettuno is also a center of pilgrimage to the shrine of Saint Maria Goretti, in which a crypt houses the mortal remains of the saint. The church keeps also a priceless polychromed wooden statue of Our Lady of Grace, which is honoured by the town with a procession every year the first Saturday of May. It was originally Our Lady of Ipswich, although it left England after the Reformation.
The privately owned Villa Costaguti-Borghese at Nettuno, built 1648, has extensive gardens in a landscape park designed about 1840, now protected as a nature reserve. The Borghese Gladiator was discovered at Nettuno. At the north edge of town is the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery and Memorial, where over 7,800 U.S. soldiers are buried.

Remembering the Ramstein Air Show Disaster August 28, 1988
The Ramstein air show disaster occurred on Sunday August 28, 1988 during the Flugtag '88 airshow at the US Ramstein Air Base near the city of Kaiserslautern, West Germany.
Aircraft of the Italian Air Force display team collided during their display, crashing to the ground in front of a crowd of about 300,000 people. 67 spectators and 3 pilots died. 346 spectators sustained serious injuries in the resulting explosion and fire, and hundreds of others had minor injuries.
At the time it was the deadliest air show accident (until overtaken in 2002 by the Sknyliv air show disaster).
Background
Ten Aermacchi MB-339 PAN jets from the Italian Air Force display team, Frecce Tricolori, were performing their 'pierced heart' (Italian: Cardioide, German: Durchstoßenes Herz) formation. In this formation, two groups of aircraft create a heart shape in front of the audience along the runway. In the completion of the lower tip of the heart, the two groups pass each other parallel to the runway. The heart is then pierced, in the direction of the audience, by a lone aircraft.
The crash
The mid-air collision took place as the two heart-forming groups passed each other and the heart-piercing aircraft hit them. The piercing aircraft crashed onto the runway and consequently both the fuselage and resulting fireball of aviation fuel tumbled into the spectator area, hitting the crowd and coming to rest against a refrigerated trailer being used to dispense ice cream to the various vendor booths in the area.
At the same time, one of the damaged aircraft from the heart-forming group crashed into the emergency medical evacuation UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, injuring the helicopter's pilot, Captain Kim Strader. He died weeks later, on Saturday September 17, 1988, at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas, USA from burns he suffered in the accident.
The pilot of the aircraft that hit the helicopter had ejected, but was killed as he hit the runway before his parachute opened. The third aircraft disintegrated in the collision and parts of it were spread along the runway.
After the crash, the remaining aircraft regrouped and landed at Sembach Air Base.
Emergency response
Of the 31 people who died at the scene, 28 had been hit by debris in the form of airplane parts, concertina wire and from items on the ground. Sixteen of the fatalities occurred in the days and weeks after the disaster due to severe burns, the last being the burned and injured helicopter pilot.
About 500 people had to seek hospital treatment following the event.
The disaster revealed serious shortcomings in the handling of large-scale medical emergencies by German civil and American military authorities. US military personnel did not immediately allow German ambulances onto the base, and the rescue work was generally hampered by a lack of efficiency and coordination. The rescue coordination center in Kaiserslautern was unaware of the disaster's scale as much as an hour after it occurred, even though several German medevac helicopters and ambulances had already arrived on site and left with patients. American helicopters and ambulances provided the quickest and largest means of evacuating burn victims, but did not have sufficient capacities for treating them, or had difficulty finding them. Further confusion was added by the American military using different standards for intravenous catheters from German paramedics. (A single standard was codified in 1995 and updated with a newer version in 2013).
Over 600 people reported to the clinic that afternoon to donate blood.
A crisis counseling center was immediately established at the nearby Southside Base Chapel and remained open throughout the week. Base mental health professionals provided group and individual counseling in the weeks following, and surveyed the response workers two months following the tragedy and again six months after the disaster to gauge recovery.
Discover: Sperlonga, Italy A beautiful Italian Beach, 1 hr from Rome
Sperlonga, Italy is a beautiful beach town in Italy. It's just one hour south of Rome. Amazing beaches, chairs and umbrellas for rent. Snack bars for food, snacks and refreshing beverages. The old town of Sperlonga is charming - reminds me a bit of Greece. The buildings are white stucco, plenty of alleys to wander through and bougainvillea blooming all around.
Makes for a perfect day trip from Rome or an extended escape to a classic Italian beach town.
Villa medicea, Poggio a Caiano, Tuscany, Italy, Europe
The Villa Medici at Poggio a Caiano, also called Amber, is one of the most famous Medici villas and is located in the municipality of Poggio a Caiano (PO). Today it is state-owned and houses a museum. The villa is perhaps the best example of architecture commissioned by Lorenzo the Magnificent, in this case, Giuliano da Sangallo to 1480. No coincidence that it is a private building, in which there are elements that made then as a model for future development of the typology of villas: the interpenetration between interior and exterior through filters such as lodges, symmetrical distribution of environments around a central hall (space centrifugal), a dominant position in the landscape, recovery aware of classic architectural elements (such as the barrel vault and the pediment of the Ionic temple façade). In 1919 the Directors of the Royal House gave Villa the Italian State. The farm of Poggio a Caiano - Table and stables, as the Villa were a unitary complex of great architectural value, were instead sold , still in the early post- Combatants and Veterans National Opera and subsequently sold to private individuals. The furniture and wallpaper on the second floor were hopelessly lost in this period. During the Second World War the villa was used as a place of refuge from the bombing to important works of art from all over Tuscany, like the statues of Michelangelo's New Sacristy or Quattro Mori Livorno , as well as during the passage of the front , as shelter for the people who took refuge in the spacious basement . In 1984 it became a National Museum has since started an important series of restorations , where, thanks to a precious inventory dated 1911, he tried to reconstruct as much as possible the internal aspect of the villa at the time , recovering all objects, furniture and works of art scattered in various museums and government deposits . In the villa and gardens were acclimatized scenes of the film Darling , 1965 directed by John Schlesinger . The work of researchers and restorers is now focused on the recovery to make available to the public other rooms of the villa. Among these are the Cucinone century and the Criptoportico underground that connects it to the villa. This environment is one of the best preserved examples of architecture aimed at the domestic needs of a court: it includes various rooms for the use of laundry facilities and a garden with medicinal herbs kitchens. Together with Tennis Court, once the playing field, these rooms could be used for the display of the eighteenth century rides. The Villa Medici at Poggio a Caiano is the first example of Renaissance architecture that blends the lesson of the classics (especially Vitruvius) with characteristic elements of elegant architectural style and other innovative features. Clearly the lesson of Alberti, from the choice of the place where the Villa is located, until you reach the symmetry and harmony of proportions. The introduction of a basis Villae (the platform supported by arches on which to pose the building) is taken instead from classic models such as the Temple of Jupiter in Terracina Anxur. The exterior of the Villa has remained fairly intact the original Renaissance project Sangallo , except for the two twin staircases that lead to the terrace, built in the early 1800s to replace the original ones straight and perpendicular to the body of the villa , clearly visible in the Just Utens famous bezel . To design them , in 1807 , was Pasquale Poccianti who created an external staircase with convenient transit carriages covered (ie with a central loggia deep enough to be able , in contrast to the existing porch , allowing access to the carriages away of the weather ) , made in the following years by Joseph Cacialli . The roof has been changed in 1575 when Alfonso Parigi replaced the eaves , where there was a walkway with a railing and a crown with chimneys, with an overhang of the roof more prominent , resulting in an elevation of the worksheet that also alters significantly the proportions of initial design of Sangallo. They were also changed the windows that were originally puzzles, ie divided in four parts with a sort of central cross in stone , according to a late- fifteenth-century model invented by Baccio d'Agnolo .
