Faro is a municipality and bishopric, the southernmost city and seat of the district of the same name, in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. With a population of 64,560 inhabitants in 2011 (with 50,000 inhabitants in the city proper, making it the biggest city in the Algarve and one of the biggest in Southern Portugal), the municipality covers an area of about 202.57 km2 (78.21 sq mi)

Faro is a city in the Faro Municipality in southern Portugal.
Faro airport (0:03) is not too far away from the city itself and is situated on the Ria Formosa lagoon. In recent years the numbers of visitors traveling through the airport has increased as more and more low-cost airlines, such as Easyjet, Ryanair and Monarch, compete to offer cheap flights to the Algarve.

One Day in Faro Portugal
Nellie and I have arrived in the land of sun and sand. The Algarve, Portugal!! We flew into Faro and only had the one day to explore the city before moving onto Portimao. This is that one day.
The best way to explore Faro in a limited amount of time is definitely the free walking tours which leave twice a day from the tourist information center in town.
There are many other things to do in Faro which sadly we were not able to fit into this video. Including trips to the nearby lagoon islands, a human bone chapel in a local church, and the city museum with amazing architectural pieces on display.
Overall I believe Faro deserves a couple days to explore and we're looking forward to returning for the flight out in a couple weeks.

FARO, PORTUGAL WITH A BABY | OLD TOWN AND STORKS
What do you do with two weeks in Europe?? PORTUGAL! But honestly, we couldn’t decide for the longest time. We flew into London with our United Explorer Card flight miles and I ended up getting tickets home from Lisbon but we had two weeks to do whatever we wanted. We toyed around with a bunch of different itineraries but with Jarrett’s hurt foot (see crutches and boot), we had to rule out a lot of hiking adventures (Pyrenees, Alps, Dolomites). So two weeks in Portugal it was!
We bought our British Airways tickets to Faro two days before departure! We checked in late to Aqua Ria Boutique Hotel in the heart of the city and explored the tiled streets at night. The next morning, we explored Old Town and then Jarrett got a nice hair cut by Jeronimo. Everett very much enjoyed the puppy while we waited. It was a quick 24 hours in Faro and we wish we could have stayed longer!

Faro is the southernmost city in mainland Portugal, in the Algarve region. The Old Town is a well-preserved section of town off the harbour with cobblestone streets and 18th century Portuguese and Moorish-influenced architecture.
Faro Airport is located 4 km (2.5 mi) to the west of Faro.

The City of Faro, Portugal in The Algarve. I take a look around the City of Faro in Portugal in The Algarve.
Faro is a historic and culturally rich city that boasts a variety of fascinating tourist attractions. Sadly, Faro is often overlooked, considered purely for its airport, but spend time in Faro, and you will discover a charming and authentic Portuguese city.
The delightful historic centre of Faro is encircled by ancient city walls and contains a Gothic cathedral, the Bishop’s palace and pretty cobbled backstreets. Outside of the walls is the modern city centre, with its pedestrianised shopping streets, scenic plazas and variety of restaurants and bars.
Portugal is also famous for Sardines, and I come across what must be the coolest Sardine Shop ever!
