The Erfurt City Hall is located at the fish market in Erfurt . The main building was built in neo-gothic style in the 1870s. The origins of the house go back to the 11th century. The town hall, first mentioned in 1275, was the political centerpiece of the municipal self-government of the medieval metropolis from the 13th to the 17th century. By 1706, the building complex reached the dimensions of today's main building.
In 1830, the old Gothic town hall was demolished, the reason being only a minor damage to the roof. In 1833, the Prussian Oberbau director Karl Friedrich Schinkel was horrified by the demolition of the medieval town hall building during a visit to Erfurt. In 1834 there was a draft by him for a new town hall, including the existing, striking tower of 1330. In this, the treasures of the city, money and documents were stored for centuries. The Schinkel draft was not considered. After the provision of financial resources began in 1869, the construction of the new town hall in its present form in the style of Gothic Revival under the architect Theodor Sommer, There had been resistance in the population against the removal of the old tower connected with the new building. In 1875, the first agencies moved in; the official inauguration took place on 2 June 1882.
The town hall has a ballroom, which has been designed by the history painter Johann Peter Theodor Janssen and pictures of Erfurt history and Martin Luther shows. In the banquet hall (until 1920) the Golden Book of the city and a cup of honor were exhibited. The Golden Book was created in 1900 on the occasion of a visit to Erfurt by Emperor Wilhelm II. By the Berlin court goldsmiths Sy and Wagner. It was spent in 1945 by the Red Army as a trophy to Moscow and did not return to Erfurt. The former Golden Book has been replaced by guest books (in red cover).
The richly painted staircases are freely accessible to the public and show works by Eduard Kaempffer from the years 1889/96. In addition to scenes from the Faust - and the Tannhäuser legend also stories of the Count von Gleichen are shown. On the festival hall front of the town hall, on both sides of the town hall balcony, were since November 1876 as emblems of the reestablishment of the German Empire statues of Emperor Frederick I (Barbarossa / Red Beard) and Emperor Wilhelm I (Barbablanca / Whitebeard). They had been made by Professor Georg Kugel from Kelheim limestone . The two 2.80 meter high statues under ornate canopies to be overthrown and demolished by their sockets on 4 July 1945, shortly after the invasion of the Red Army in Erfurt.
In the city archives of Erfurt, however, is the minutes of a meeting of the City Council Erfurt of June 6, 1950, in which it says: The figures above the hall entrance to the ballroom are to remove. A representative of Lord Mayor Georg Boock has also signed. For decades, the former locations of emperor statues remained empty. As a donation of the Erfurt Rotary Club, bronze statues of Boniface and Martin Luther will be staged in June and November 2017 .
Three lamp holders by Georg Kugel, which have disappeared, adorned the staircase of the town hall. He also made two gargoyles of zinc, a male figure under the balcony and the Erfurt coat of arms in the decorative gable. From 1933, according to designs by Johannes Klass further extensive additions to the City Hall, along with the construction of a new Sparkasse on the fish market in the style of the New Objectivity .

This is part 1 of 7 showing the southern Austrian shore of the Danube River from Lindau, Passau, Germany to Linz, Austria on July 6, 2017 as viewed from a Veranda A stateroom (no. 315) on Viking Longship Ingvi. Interestingly, our ship begins the cruise from the L4 dock in the area of Passau called Lindau, Passau just east of the railroad bridge that is visible in the first few seconds of the video and it is just east of that bridge that the right hand shore (if looking in the direction of travel) becomes Austrian instead of German. For a small area around Passau, Germany, Germany is on both sides of the river and it is just after the bridge that the border reverts back to being the river. The Danube River at this point is just a couple of km east of where the Inn and Ilz have joined it in Passau. This was the first leg of our Danube Waltz Cruise to Budapest. I apologize in advance for all the sun glare--I did the best could to position the camera to avoid it but was far from completely successful. Was generally surprised by how little development there was along the Danube shore line in every country but Germany. At the start of the video and during the time the river had Germany on the left and Austria on the right (if you are looking straight ahead in the direction of our sailing which was east), Germany had way more development. But compared to every other country after Germany, Austria had the most. Unfortunately, due to our cabin location, I didn't get any of the German side which I think would have been more interesting. Seemed like a lot more activity on the German side. However, the German side (the north side staring out) does not last that long and fairly soon into the trip, both shores become Austrian. This video though only looks at the southern Austrian shore. The reason I know there was stuff on the German side was that I strolled up to the deck while the camcorder was running from our room and took a look at both sides and while there was still a German side, there looked to be more activity on that side than the Austrian side.

The Alte Pinakothek is one of the oldest and most important galleries in the world. More than 800 masterpieces by European artists bring to life the development of art from the Middle Ages to the end of the Rococo period. Venetian art is represented by its master painter Titian, as is Dutch baroque art by Frans Hals. Rubens occupies (with one of the largest collections of his works in the world) the center of the museum. A further highlight is the Old German art by Altdorfer and Dürer. Both Dürer's epochal self-portrait from 1500 as well as his Four Apostles can be admired in the Alte Pinakothek.
The Alte Pinakothek is an art museum located in the Kunstareal area in Munich, Germany. It is one of the oldest galleries in the world and houses one of the most famous collections of Old Master paintings. The name Alte (Old) Pinakothek refers to the time period covered by the collection—from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century. The Neue Pinakothek covers nineteenth-century art, and the recently opened Pinakothek der Moderne exhibits modern art. All three galleries are part of the Bavarian State Painting Collections, an organization of the Free state of Bavaria.
King Ludwig I of Bavaria ordered Leo von Klenze to erect a new building for the gallery for the Wittelsbach collection in 1826. The Alte Pinakothek was the largest museum in the world and structurally and conceptually well advanced through the convenient accommodation of skylights for the cabinets. Even the Neo-Renaissance exterior of the Pinakothek clearly stands out from the castle-like museum type usual in the early 19th century. It is closely associated with the function and structure of the building as a museum. Very modern in its day, the building became exemplary for museum buildings in Germany and all of Europe after its inauguration in 1836, and thus became a model for new galleries in Rome, St Petersburg, Brussels and Kassel.
The museum building was severely damaged by bombing in World War II but was reconstructed and reopened to the public on 7 June 1957, with President Theodor Heuss attending. Director Ernst Buckner oversaw the rebuilding project, ensuring that the building remained true to its original architecture. The ornate, pre-war interior including the large loggia facing the south façade in the upper floor were not restored. A new wall covering was created in 2008 for the rooms on the upper floor of the Alte Pinakothek with a woven and dyed silk from Lyon. The new color scheme of green and red draws on the design of the rooms, dates back to the time of construction of the Alte Pinakothek and was predominant until the 20th Century. Already for King Ludwig I and his architect Leo von Klenze the use of a wall covering alternately in red and green, showed the continuation of a tradition that dates back to the exhibition of the old masters of the late 16th Century in many of the major art galleries in Europe (Florence, London, Madrid, St. Petersburg, Paris, Vienna) and there exists to this day.
The museum is under the supervision of the Bavarian State Painting Collections which also owns an expanded collection of several thousand European paintings from the 13th to 18th centuries. Especially its collection of Early Italian, Old German, Old Dutch and Flemish paintings is one of the most important in the world. More than 800 of these paintings are exhibited at the Old Pinakothek. Due to limited space in the building, some associated galleries throughout Bavaria such as the baroque galleries in Schleissheim Palace and Neuburg Palace additionally have works by the Old Masters on display. From 2014 through 2017, wings of the museum will be sequentially closed for renovation, and the artworks in closed sections will be unavailable for viewing.
