MUNICH, EXPLORING the beautiful neo-gothic NEW TOWN HALL ????️ (NEUES RATHAUS), GERMANY
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go visit the INSIDE of Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall) which is a magnificent neo-gothic building from the turn of the century which architecturally dominates the north side of Munich’s Marienplatz. It’s construction of brick and shell limestone was completed in 1874. The swift growth of the city soon required that annexes be built, which were erected between 1899 and 1903 and run along Dienerstraße, Landschaftstraße, and Weinstraße. The Neue Rathaus is the seat of the mayor’s office, the city council, and the headquarters of the city administration. The almost 100-meter-long (300 feet) main facade on Marienplatz is richly ornamented in neo-gothic style and shows almost the entire line of the house of Wittelsbach in Bavaria.
Munich, Bavaria’s capital, is home to centuries-old buildings and numerous museums. The city is known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration and its beer halls, including the famed Hofbräuhaus, founded in 1589. In the Altstadt (Old Town), central Marienplatz square contains landmarks such as Neo-Gothic Neues Rathaus (town hall), with a popular glockenspiel show that chimes and reenacts stories from the 16th century.
Germany is a Western European country with a landscape of forests, rivers, mountain ranges and North Sea beaches. It has over 2 millennia of history. Berlin, its capital, is home to art and nightlife scenes, the Brandenburg Gate and many sites relating to WWII. Munich is known for its Oktoberfest and beer halls, including the 16th-century Hofbräuhaus. Frankfurt, with its skyscrapers, houses the European Central Bank.

Places to see in ( Munich - Germany ) Altes Rathaus
Places to see in ( Munich - Germany ) Altes Rathaus
The Old Town Hall, until 1874 the domicile of the municipality, serves today as a building for representative purposes for the city council in Munich. The Old Town Hall bounds the central square Marienplatz on its east side. The Alte Rathaus (“Old Town Hall”) that sits at the eastern edge of Munich’s Marienplatz has an eventful history. The building was first mentioned in city records in 1310, and it was the seat of the Munich city council until 1847.
Over the centuries and according to the prevailing taste of the times, the Alte Rathaus underwent numerous renovations, and it was almost completely destroyed in World War II. During reconstruction in the 1950’s, the historical preservationists focused on the Gothic original from the 15th century by cathedral architect Jörg von Halsbach, known as “Ganghofer”. The new tower facade shows the various coats of arms for the city of Munich.
Today the tower of the Alte Rathaus houses an historical toy museum. The collection includes model trains, stuffed animals, dolls, dollhouses, and tin toys. The large Gothic ballroom in the main building is used for events like symposiums, commemorations, or awards ceremonies. As such, the Alte Rathaus is still used today for representative purposes by the city council and the mayor of the state capital.

Nymphenburg Palace Garden and New Years Fireworks in Marienplatz Munich || Germany Vlog
We drove to Munich to go back to Nymphenburg Palace, check out Marienplatz and to celebrate New Years. Unfortunately Nymphenburg Palace was closed and we didn’t get to see inside, again, rol, so we walked through the palace garden. After finding something to eat we made our way over to Marienplatz to see the gorgeous New town hall and got some Starbucks while we waited to countdown to The New Year, and seemingly everyone around us set off fireworks.

說明
27 Munich Marienplatz
From our 2016 trip to Europe.
Marienplatz is the old town square of Munich. On one end of the square is the Altes Rathaus (old town hall) with its pointy green spires and adjoining bell tower. The original 14th c. structure was indeed the older of Munich’s two town halls, but while the new town hall wasn’t heavily damaged in WW2, the Altes Rathaus was leveled, so today’s “old” town hall is actually a mid-20th c. reconstruction.
Dominating the square is the Neues Rathaus (new town hall) with it’s soaring 280-foot spire. It looks medieval but was built in the late-1800’s. Atop the spire is the Münchner Kindl, a child in monk’s garb with outstretched arms, representing the 8th c. Benedictines who were the first to settle here
In the middle of the square is the Mariensäule, a gold statue of Mary and the baby Jesus atop a tall column, with sword-wielding angels battling serpents at the base.
Built into the tower of the Neues Rathaus is a glockenspiel whose bells play the melodies that we’ve been listening to throughout this video. The music is accompanied by mechanical figurines depicting a noble wedding that actually took place on the square in 1568. The duke and his bride enjoy the wedding procession and then watch as the groom’s Bavarian family (in white & blue) joust with the bride’s French family (in red & white) -- and of course the Bavarian knight always wins. Below, the barrel makers do their famous jig, reenacting the dance they initiated after a deadly plague lifted. A solitary cock crows three times to signal the end of the festivities.

The New Town Hall (German: Neues Rathaus)
penangholiao.com bring to you: The New Town Hall (German: Neues Rathaus) is a town hall at the northern part of Marienplatz in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It hosts the city government including the city council, offices of the mayors and part of the administration. In 1874 the municipality had left the Old Town Hall for its new domicile.
The building
It was built between 1867 and 1908 by Georg von Hauberrisser in a Gothic Revival architecture style. It covers an area of 9159 m² having 400 rooms. The 100 meters long main facade towards the Marienplatz is richly decorated. It shows the Guelph Duke Henry the Lion, and almost the entire line of the Wittelsbach dynasty in Bavaria and is the largest princely cycle in a German town hall. The central monument in the center of the main facade between the two phases at Marienplatz above the guard house, is an equestrian statue of Prince Regent Luitpold. The bay of the tower contains statues of the first four Bavarian kings.
The main facade is placed toward the plaza, while the back side is adjacent to a small park (Marienhof). The basement is almost completely occupied by a large restaurant called Ratskeller. On the ground floor, some rooms are rented for small businesses. Also located in the ground floor is the major official tourist information.
The first floor hosts a big balcony towards the Marienplatz which is used for large festivals such as football championships or for concerts during the Weihnachtsmarkt. Its main tower has a height of 85 m and is available for visitors with an elevator. On the top thrones the Münchner Kindl. The Rathaus-Glockenspiel, performed by an apparatus daily on 11am, 12pm and 5pm, is a tourist attraction.
