Places to see in ( Essen - Germany ) Old Town Kettwig
Kettwig is historic it's a part of Essen which remained relatively undamaged after the war. The cobble lined streets fachwerk, (timber framed) houses compliment each other. Historic churches stand side by side next to restaurants and little stores.
It's a nice part of Essen to spend a day outside town. Old houses, cubble stone streets. One can get there by U11 till Messe/Gruga and catch the bus 142. Good restaurants and nice walk along the river, good for biking or inline skating.
Essen has a lot of modern touches. The south of it, where Kettwig is allows you to see a more traditional german city, quite confortable and godo for a calm stroll. If you are in Essen, you have to visit this small village. Quite, beautiful, close to river.

[4K] West Germany Walk - Old Town Essen Kettwig
In this video I am doing a walk in West Germany, Essen Kettwig. Kettwig emerged from World War II largely unscathed and with most of its medieval old town still intact. The tower of the Market Church dates back to the 14th century, with additions from 1720. The Catholic Church St. Peter was christened in 1830. Other sights include Schloss Hugenpoet, which has been remodeled into a hotel, Schloss Oefte, and the Kattenturm, a 14th-century watchtower belonging to the former castle Luttelnau. This walk offers a great way to enjoy the city's beautiful ambience during the early afternoon hours.

I am using an iPhone 11 Pro for this video which shoots in 4K at 60 frames per second with High Dynamic Range enabled. To stabilize the video I am using a gimbal. For the best audio possible, I’m using a external microphone(but the windshield did not work as well as expected in this video, I will purchase a different one for that reason). Places to see in ( Essen - Germany ) Old Town Werden
Places to see in ( Essen - Germany ) Old Town Werden
The town of Werden, which is now a suburb of Essen, is exceptional because very few old buildings survived anywhere else in the heavily industrialised (and bombed) Ruhr area but, compared to other ‘old towns’, it is nothing special.
Small but definitely worth seeing. Small pedestrian street , no traffic jams, cozy restaurants and bakeries. Place where you can relax and enjoy. Cozy little town at the Ruhr. Nice local center with many small shops, boutiques and restauarnts. Enjoy the lively scenary during saturday morning at the farmers market between the Basilika and Folkwang University.
The atmosphere is delightfully romantic, the architecture outstandingly impressive, feel yourself transported into another century. There are some nice half-timbered houses.

Essen - Germany
Essen is a city in the central part of the Ruhr area in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Located on the River Ruhr, its population of approximately 579,000 (as of June 30, 2008) makes it either the 7th- or 8th-largest city in Germany. For the year 2010, Essen is the European Capital of Culture on behalf of the whole Ruhr area.
Formerly one of Germany's most important coal and steel centres and historically linked to the centuries-old Krupp family iron works, the city has developed a strong tertiary sector of industry and (sometimes together with nearby Düsseldorf) claims to be the desk of the Ruhr area.[2] It is home to 13 of the 100 largest German corporations and seat to several of the region's authorities.
In 1958, the city was chosen to serve as the seat to a Roman Catholic diocese (often referred to as Ruhrbistum or diocese of the Ruhr). In early 2003, the universities of Essen and the nearby city of Duisburg (both established in 1972) were merged into the University of Duisburg-Essen with campuses in both cities and a university hospital in Essen. Places to see in ( Essen - Germany ) Alte Synagoge
Places to see in ( Essen - Germany ) Alte Synagoge
The Old Synagogue (German: Alte Synagoge) is a cultural meeting center and memorial in the city of Essen in Germany. It is located in the center of the city on Edmund-Körner-Platz 1 (formerly Steeler Straße 29), close to the present city hall. The memorial center was founded in 1980 and is accommodated in the pre-war Jewish community's synagogue.
The synagogue, together with the attached Rabbinerhaus (House of the Rabbi), which today houses the Salomon Ludwig Steinheim Institute, was finished after a two-year construction period in 1913. It was originally consecrated as the Neue Synagoge (New Synagogue). Today the building is one of the largest, best preserved and architecturally most impressive testimonies to Jewish culture in pre-war Germany.
The Essen synagogue was the cultural and social center of the Jewish community. In 1933 it claimed approximately 5,000 members. It served this function until the so-called Reichspogromnacht (also known as Kristallnacht) of 9–10 November 1938, when it was severely damaged on the inside by plundering, though the exterior remained nearly intact. Although Essen itself was very heavily bombed (see Bombing of Essen in World War II), the building itself managed to survive the Second World War without further damage.
From 1945-1959 the former synagogue stood unused as ruin at the edge of the Essen city center. In 1959, the surviving Jewish community, after it had been using Rabbinerhaus as their center, built a new, much smaller synagogue, which is the current place of worship. In the same year, the city of Essen acquired the former synagogue and in the following years of 1960/1961 renovated it into a museum for industrial design, the Haus Industrieform. For this purpose, all existing elements were removed or painted over. The ark for the torah was destroyed; the mosaics and ornaments were painted over. Following the spirit of the time, the inside was completely redesigned to a much more sober form to fit the purpose, no longer showing its former use as a synagogue. The main prayer hall was divided by a new floor and the ceiling was covered up.
A fire, caused by a short-circuit, severely damaged the Design exhibition in 1979. This event and a changed attitude toward handling historic buildings finally caused the city council of Essen to found the current institution Alte Synagoge. From 1986-1988 the entire building, with financial means provided by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, was reconstructed, so that it is again recognizable in its earlier function.
Today the Alte Synagoge is an open house for meetings and discussions. It offers a meeting-place for those interested in Jewish culture and religion, past and present. Cultural events such as concerts, plays, and readings are also offered.

Essen - Germany is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Its population of approximately 583,267 (as of 30 September 2015) makes it the 6th-largest city in Germany. Essen began in the mid-9th century as home to a women's abbey, then during the Renaissance became an important coal mining town and later a major steel production center.
