Connecticut Witch Trials: Witch Hysteria in America Long Before Salem | AF-254
If you thought the infamous Salem witch trials of 1692 were the only incident of witch hysteria in colonial America, that is understandable. This incident is widely known and talked about, probably because of the sheer volume of numbers of people who were convicted and accused. There were twenty victims who were unjustly executed, while hundreds more for miles around and from far outside of Salem were accused and spent time in jail before the hysteria ended. However, the incident in Salem Village was not the first or only time this happened in colonial America. There are other incidents of witch hysteria or individual witch accusations that are simply overlooked. One of the most notorious of these “forgotten” witch incidents happened a generation before Salem in Hartford, Connecticut...

Dash cam: 18 YO Fatal Officer Involved Shooting. Wethersfield, Connecticut
#officerinvolvedshooting #Wethersfieldpoliceshooting #AnthonyJoseVegaCruz
Wethersfield, Connecticut --- Nearly two weeks since a Wethersfield police officer shot an 18-year-old driver after a traffic stop, the chief state’s attorney’s office released dashcam footage and surveillance video on Friday that show the incident that led to the man’s death.
“The video footage released today by the State’s Attorney’s office.
The initial police account of the shooting went like this: It was about 6 p.m. on a Saturday when two Wethersfield police officers tried to pull Vega Cruz over. After the incident, Wethersfield police Chief James Cetran explained the stop to a TV reporter, saying that “the plates did not match the car … The officer thought it was a stolen car.”
State police said at the time that Vega Cruz’s car and a police car eventually collided. An officer got out of his car and “the suspect’s vehicle drove towards that officer,” state police said on April 21. That officer, later identified as Layau Eulizier, then shot Vega Cruz and fatally wounded him. Vega Cruz’s family says he was shot twice in the head.
Friday’s video release gives more context. The footage and surveillance videos show it was raining when Peter Salvatore, the Wethersfield officer who initiated the traffic stop, pulled Vega Cruz over. Both cars came to a complete stop. After about 30 seconds, Salvatore approached the stopped car on foot. That’s when Vega Cruz began to drive away, leading to a pursuit on Silas Deane Highway.
Down the road, Eulizier joined the pursuit, making a U-turn to continue after Vega Cruz’s car, which appeared to spin out of control onto the side of the highway.
Eulizier’s police SUV then rammed into Vega Cruz’s car head-on. Eulizier got out of his vehicle with his gun drawn and positioned himself in front of Vega Cruz’s car. He appeared to shout “show me your hands” three times, though this has not been immediately confirmed by police.
Salvatore’s SUV then arrived, nearly colliding with Vega Cruz’s car. Seconds later, Salvatore hit Vega Cruz’s car on the driver’s side.
As the vehicle began to pull away, Eulizier fired his gun 2 times into the front windshield. The car came to a complete stop. Vega Cruz’s passenger opened her door, as the car again began to drive forward. Both officers approached the vehicle on foot with guns drawn, and the car came to a stop. The passenger - who was not shot -- stepped out, hands in the air, and sat on the ground.
The Wethersfield Police Department said this week that Eulizier, known as “Junior,” had been hired in August 2018 and did not have a disciplinary history on his record. Neither did Salvatore, who joined the department in 2013.

Old Connecticut Path: Part 1 Finding the Path - Presentation in Eastford, CT
Part 1 introduces the history of the Old Connecticut Path and the search to rediscover the route from Cambridge, MA to Hartford, CT.
Rediscovering the Old Connecticut Path is much more than a story about places. The live presentation in Eastford has been divided in segments or chapters that tells the story of reconnecting the Path along with the larger story of families who first came down to Connecticut and what they did for our nation.
The video chapters expand upon the content of previous presentations. The Path travels through places of great natural beauty and historic significance in their own right. But, there is a much bigger story to be told about the heritage of the families who traveled the Path and their contributions to the heritage of our country.
Thanks to the Eastford Library Board, Historical Society, and Conservation & Historic Preservation Commission for sponsoring the Old Connecticut Path presentation in Eastfor. Nearly 80 people came out to learn more about the places along the Path and the story of the people who traveled along its route.
As early as 1633-36, the migration from Massachusetts Bay at Boston/Cambridge west to Connecticut began following the Old Connecticut Path. John Oldham followed the Path to the Connecticut valley in 1633 followed by the Watertown, MA congregation in 1635 to settle Wethersfield, CT. Reverend John Wareham and the Dorchester congregation followed the Path in 1635 to settle Windsor, CT. Reverend Thomas Hooker and his entire congregation walked along the Old Connecticut Path for two weeks across the wilderness in 1636 from Cambridge, MA to establish Hartford, CT. Join me for a walk and use your imagination to experience the landscape traveled by the pioneers of the 1600s.

Wethersfield river death
WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Divers searching the Connecticut River in Wethersfield have recovered the body of a missing swimmer.
The Coast Guard announced the man's body was found around one a.m., about 100 yards south of the location where he disappeared.
Authorities say the man was 35-years-old and was from Middletown.
The search began Sunday when police got a call from a distraught woman saying her friend jumped off a sailboat into the river to cool off, but never came back up.
Dive teams, search boats, side-scan sonar machines and even a helicopter were called in during the search.
The Connecticut River is known for its strong, unpredictable currents.
