#Hermanus (originally called Hermanuspietersfontein, but shortened in 1902 as the name was too long for the postal service), is a town on the southern coast of the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is famous for Southern Right whale watching during the southern winter to spring seasons, and is a popular retirement location, too. Although the Southern Right whale is the most prolific species in the bay, it is not the only one that visits these shores. The whales can be seen from the cliffs all along the coast from as early as June and usually depart in early-December. They were once hunted in the nearby town of Betty's Bay, but are now protected to ensure the survival of the species. The Old Harbour Museum contains several exhibitions that explain the whaling industry, and the De Wetshuis Photo Museum houses an exhibition of photos by T. D. Ravenscroft that depicts the history of Hermanus. The Whale Museum houses a skeleton of a whale and shows an audio-visual presentation of whales and dolphins twice daily.
Hermanus lies along Walker Bay on the south coast of the Western Cape. It is located about 115 km southeast of Cape Town and is connected to the Mother City by the R43 highway (or coastal R44 scenic route) and N2 motorway. The R43 continues to Cape Agulhas, the most southerly point of Africa. Hermanus is 40 km from Gansbaai, a famous spot where one can dive amongst the Great White Sharks. It is also notable that Hermanus still boasts a historic railway station building without a railway line. The founders of the town decided not to lay any tracks as this would have made Hermanus more commercial and felt that Hermanus needed to stay a small Fisherman's Village. To this day the locals still refer to it as the village.
Sandbaai lies on the coast at the entrance to the Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven and Earth) Valley. It is the most recently developed and fastest-growing residential area of Greater Hermanus
Zwelihle, designated a black area by the former government, is a residential area that consists mainly of shacks.

Gordon's Bay Road Trip | Cape Town | South Africa | 2018
Road trip to Gordon's Bay in Cape Town cinematic video.
We took a road trip from central Cape Town to Gordon's Bay. Gordon's Bay is a harbour town in the Western Cape province of South Africa, close to Strand. Above the harbour on the mountainside is a giant anchor and the letters GB. Many think that this stands for Gordon's Bay, but in fact it stands for General Botha which was the original name of the Naval station in the town.

Located in the quaint coastal town of Betty’s Bay in the Overberg, the Stony Point Nature Reserve is home to a unique colony of African Penguins. Stony Point offers the public the chance to see these wonderful flightless birds up close, via the boardwalk through the colony, which allows the public to observe the penguins go about their daily activities in their natural habitat, without disturbing or disrupting them.
Also present in the colony are three species of cormorant; the Crowned cormorant, Cape cormorant and Bank cormorant, all of which breed on the outer rocks. There are also Hartlaub’s Gulls and Kelp Gulls which forage in the colony, while the Rock Hyrax, more commonly known as the Dassie, can be seen on the surrounding rocks.
The colony lies on the site of the old Waaygat Whaling Station, which was used to harvest and process whale meat in the early to mid 1900s. Remnants of the machinery and infrastructure for this long-defunct industry can still be found at the site.
There is also a community restaurant adjacent to Stony Point, which sells refreshments and food during the day.

Hermanus is known as the whale-watching capital of the world. Thousands of visitors descend on the town each year as southern right and humpback whales migrate from the icy Antarctic to the warmer waters here to mate, give birth and rear their young. What many are less familiar with is the array of spectacular wines the area produces. Hermanus is one of the few places where you can enjoy wine-tasting and visits to the beach and mountains all one the same day. Historically, Hermanus Pieters 'discovered' the area in the 1820's ,and found it to be ideal for summer grazing. It soon also became a haven for fishermen and a prime holiday destination for city-dwellers. Hermanus has also developed a cultural ambience that makes it a Bohemian mecca for writers and painters. The town offers a wide range of opportunities in terms of shopping and entertainment. You will find everything from quiet bookshops and bakeries to a number of supermarkets, cinemas, theatres and larger shopping centres such as the Checkers Centre at the old station building as well as Gateway Shopping Centre.

Solar-powered radio recording at Steenbras Dam
Our final solar-powered radio ad was shot on location at the Steenbras Dam, home to the hydroelectric turbines that are sometimes used to offset the effects of load-shedding.
The City of Cape Town is currently looking for smart solutions to reduce its power usage, meaning we can keep the lights on when other South African cities can’t.
By using only solar power, we created a radio campaign that showcases these smart solutions without drawing a single watt of power from the national grid.
Each of these solar-powered radio ads highlight an innovative solution the City has implemented in order to reduce electricity consumption in the Western Cape.

SUMMARY
=======
Cape Town (Afrikaans: Kaapstad [ˈkɑːpstat]; Xhosa: iKapa; Dutch: Kaapstad) is a coastal city in South Africa. It is the capital and primate city of the Western Cape province. It forms part of the City of Cape Town metropolitan municipality.
As the place where the Parliament of South Africa is found, Cape Town is the legislative capital of South Africa. The other two capitals are located in Pretoria (the administrative capital where the President and Cabinet work) and Bloemfontein (the judicial capital where the National Court of Appeal is located). The city is known for its harbour, for its natural setting in the Cape Floristic Region, and for landmarks as Table Mountain and Cape Point. As of 2014, it is the 10th most populous city in Africa and home to 64% of the Western Cape's population. It is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, reflecting its role as a major destination for immigrants and expatriates to South Africa. The city was named the World Design Capital for 2014 by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design. In 2014, Cape Town was named the best place in the world to visit by both The New York Times and The Daily Telegraph.Located on the shore of Table Bay, Cape Town, as the oldest urban area in South Africa, was developed by the Dutch East India Company (VOC) as a supply station for Dutch ships sailing to East Africa, India, and the Far East. Jan van Riebeeck's arrival on 6 April 1652 established Dutch Cape Colony, the first permanent European settlement in South Africa. Cape Town outgrew its original purpose as the first European outpost at the Castle of Good Hope, becoming the economic and cultural hub of the Cape Colony. Until the Witwatersrand Gold Rush and the development of Johannesburg, Cape Town was the largest city in South Africa.

Divers Spot Giant White Shark
???? The biggest great white shark on record is visiting the American island state of Hawaii, divers say.
A group of divers monitoring the carcass of a sperm whale off the coast of Oahu say they have gone swimming with the massive predator, and that based on the size and the markings, the shark is known as “Deep Blue,” one of the largest great whites on record.
“She was just this big, beautiful gentle giant wanting to use our boat as a scratching post,” diver Ocean Ramsey told The Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
Deep Blue is believed to be 6 meters long and at least 50 years old. The Smithsonian says the average female great white shark measures just less than 5 meters, while males measure just less than 4 meters.
“Big pregnant females are actually the safest ones to be with — the biggest, oldest ones — because they’ve seen it all, including us,” Ramsey said.
