Iwadeyama: Cherry Blossoms & Old Town
Iwadeyama: A cultural heart of Miyagi Prefecture, Tohoku, Japan: Cycling through Hirusawa-gawa Riverside with Cherry Blossoms and Old Town.
Let’s Go! Osaki Balloon Festival
The Osaki Balloon Festival (大崎バルーンフェスティバル)is accessible via a ten minute walk from the JR Iwadeyama Station in Osaki-shi. From Sendai city, it is approximately a one hour drive North to Osaki without taking the tolled roads. Do note that this 3 day event in late November is weather dependent and will likely be cancelled on days of poor flying conditions (strong winds, poor visibility, heavy rain/snow).
2018 marked the 33rd year for this annual event that attracts pilots and visitors from across Japan to this town in Miyagi prefecture. Waking up at 4:30am was difficult and I apologize for the lack of energy in the video (a combination of catching a cold, lack of sleep and a frigid morning), but once the sun came out by late morning, it was a great day. I hope I was able to capture the wonder and beauty of witnessing so many colorful balloons all at once.
The Let's Go Series was produced to inspire my ES children to get outside and explore. Only basic English is used in the videos so that children learning English as a second language can follow along.

Yamadera - Yamagata - 山寺 - 4K Ultra HD
Located in the northeast mountains of Yamagata City, and in the prefecture of the same name, Yamadera is a scenic temple sitting on a cliff and offering a stunning view of its surrounding valley. Yamadera was founded in 860 and belongs to the Rissakuji Sect, also known as the Tendai Sect.
Yamadera has been made famous by its unique past and location. The temple was founded by one of the most important Buddhist priests in the Tohoku Region; Jikaku Daishi. It was also often visited by the famous Japanese poet Basho who apparently composed one of his most enduring haiku there.
While Yamadera’s main hall, Konponchudo Hall, is located at the base of the mountain, the Okuno-In, Shozo and famous Godaido Hall with its unique view over the valley are all located on top of the mountain.
Unfortunately, being a victim of its own success as well as the being slightly disfigured by the many electric cables and poles erected on the temple grounds is in total disrespect of the natural wonder of the area. Yamadera today does not necessarily reflect how amazing this place used to be.

Explore Sendai Japan in One Day
It's my first time in Sendai Japan and we set out to explore the city. Sendai is the capital city of Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, and the largest city in the Tōhoku region. We set out to Shintera for brunch at a ramen shop that serves basically one kind of ramen bowl. We proceed to order at a machine by the door and provided the tickets to the kitchen staff. It's so delicious. Next stop is shopping. Japan has many cute cloths for women and men alike. To take full advantage of our first day, we went to the Sendai City Museum to learn about the history of the city and see the remaining of Sendai castle, at the first enclosure.
