Chatham Borough and Chatham Township New Jersey
Get to know the town of Chatham New Jersey. The Chathams refers to two neighboring municipalities in Morris County, New Jersey -- Chatham Borough and Chatham Township. The two are separate municipalities, the first a municipality that was settled in 1710 as a colonial English village in the Province of New Jersey. The second, more southern, and less densely populated, municipality was formed in 1806 as a township, a form of municipal government peculiar to the state of New Jersey, delineating a region including several communities that initially included the village dating from 1710 (from which it took its name).
All except one of the communities included in the 1806 township governmental district seceded from it soon thereafter, when other forms of government became available to municipalities in the relatively new, post-revolution state of New Jersey, leaving only Green Village in an undefined rural district that experienced extensive residential development after 1960, when several farms and woodlands were sold off to developers[citation needed].
Two community services are shared by Chatham Borough and Chatham Township: since 1974 they have shared library services and in 1986 a joint school district was created and extended to most portions of Chatham Township for all grades.
Post Office Annex (old Post Office), ZIP 07928
Some portions of Chatham Township are provided federal post office services by the Chatham post office. Green Village, another early town like Chatham that dates to colonial times, remains partially in Chatham Township and has a separate post office and zip code. The residents of Chatham receive door-to-door delivery of mail and its post office provides rural delivery using roadside mailboxes to the portions of Chatham Township not served by Green Village.

Save the Hugg-Harrison-Glover House: If Walls Spoke

SIGN THE PETITION:
Bellmawr, NJ has lost many of its historic structures, but the Hugg-Harrison-Glover (c.1764) house still stands. Unfortunately, it is scheduled to be demolished. There is an effort to move this structure.

MORE HISTORY:
The Hugg-Harrison-Glover House was home to William Harrison, captain of the Gloucestertown Militia during the American Revolutionary War. It was from this house that militia muskets were cleaned, and militiamen were paid from the Continental Congress.
Harrison fought in two skirmishes on his property in Bellmawr. One such skirmish, the Battle of Gloucestertown, was led by the young Marquis de Lafayette. It is as a direct result of this battle that George Washington promoted Lafayette. The rest is history.

Diner says there's a rat in KFC's chicken
Jeanne Moos reports on a fast food flap that has one diner fried. See below for KFC's full response provided to CNN on June 22:
“Recently, a customer questioned the quality of a KFC product, and this received considerable publicity given the sensational nature of his claim. The product has now been tested by a third-party independent lab, which confirmed it is definitely a piece of chicken, as we knew all along. The right thing for this customer to do is to apologize and cease making false claims about the KFC brand.”
Jersey City bursting at seams with population surge
The allure of Jersey City is undeniable. There’s night life, luxury high rises with Manhattan views, and great neighborhoods where you can happily raise a family. But there’s a big problem: Jersey City is no longer the Garden State’s best kept secret.
Deplorable polling conditions at Salem-Lafayette Apartments in Jersey City
After receiving complaints about poll conditions at the Salem-Lafayette apartments, Hudson County View visited the senior citizen housing complex on Election Day. Once inside it was clear that the construction taking place created deplorable conditions for election workers and voters. Besides the visible issues and unpleasant odors, workers told Hudson County View that sewage water was flooding into the room during the early morning.

Inside Juvenile Detention
As recently as 2005, the state of Virginia had eight centers like Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Facility, housing more than 1,300 delinquent youth. But by 2017, after a series of reforms, that number had shrunk to one.
“It's not that you can't do good work here,” said Andy Block, who, since 2014, has served as the juvenile-justice department’s director. “But the place itself and the design and the size and the location are barriers to doing good work.” Block and others are working to close Bon Air and replace it with something that reflects the juvenile justice reforms that have taken hold in Virginia and across the country—a system that once focused on confinement is now dedicated to rehabilitation. In recent years, more than 70 percent of Virginia's juvenile inmates were rearrested within three years of their release.*
Read more on The Atlantic:
*This documentary originally stated that Virginia has one of the highest recidivism rates in the country. This characterization was based on incomplete data. The documentary also stated that the three-year rearrest rate for current Bon Air inmates would be 74 percent. This was the rate for former juvenile inmates in Virginia in 2014. We regret the errors.
