Kruger National Park, from Phalaborwa Gate to Olifants River - South Africa Travel Channel
The Kruger National Park is a highlight for South Africa travelers.
In an area of approximately 20,000 square kilometers, one can admire the diverse wildlife of South Africa in its natural environment. One can easily drive through the park with his own car.
The Kruger National Park is accessible over several gates. At the gates, visitors are registered and pay their Conservation fee.
Comming from Pretoria via the National Road N1, we enter the park through the western Gate of Phalaborwa.
During the day, one can explore the park over a well -developed network of paved and dirt roads on his own. However, one should follow the Park rules and by no means leave the car.
At nightfall, driving is not allowed in the park and also not recommendable. However, comfortable camps, spread over the park, are available for overnight stay.
We opt for the Letaba Camp. It lies on the banks of the Letaba River and due to its elevated position it allows a good panoramic view of the surroundings.
At the Olifant River we encounter elephants and hippos for the first time.

Kruger National Park, from Olifants River to Skukuza - South Africa Travel Channel
In the second part of our tour through the Kruger National Park, we leave the Olifants River and head towards Skukuza.
Among others, we meet wildebeest, springbok, impala, baboons, giraffes, elephants and exotic birds. Turtle and badger also cross our way.
The animal skeletons show that man does not carry out any interventions in nature here.
Skukuza is located in the south-west of the Kruger National Park only 70 km from the Mozambique border and is the main camp of the park.
The old railway bridge still reminds the fact that the railway line, built in 1912, led across the National Park. The railway track was closed in1974.
