Turkish Food For The First Time... It Was Amazing!!!!!
It’s not often I’m blown away. It’s not often I over eat (gluttony). It’s not often I’m so impressed it alters my perception of my top restaurants – I definitely had to reorganize my top 5.
Ok, enough of the theatrics, Istanbul Bay could be considered a Michelin Star restaurant (end of review) – and before I’m insulted by the classification, hear me out. Michelin Star restaurants are known for their fine dining experiences, price-points targeted to the upper echelons – basically, not for the less fortunate – and finally, as places of indulges, which can piggy-back to all the previous comments. Don’t get me wrong, some broadly accessible restaurants, with Michelin Stars, exist, but they’re few. That being said, Istanbul Bay is worthy of the consideration. Its food is incredible, and it’s priced and marketed to all.
It’s my first time eating Turkish food, but the cuisine is not new. I’ve experienced it before through many interpretations – Mediterranean and/or Halal food. But for the purpose of this review, I’m treating it as a new experience.
Istanbul Bay, as I mentioned, is a Turkish restaurant located in Brooklyn, New York (near Bay Ridge). It’s located on a corner. And it’s impossible to miss – their name is prominently seen through their large signage. They have outdoor seating, but we opted to eat indoors due to the brisk weather.
There was a bit of a wait (5-10 mins), but it was totally justified – through my lens, all tables were mystified as their dishes made its way to their designated places, so the place has to be good. The first impression of said mystification is the complimentary bread, and I’m not talking about the generic butter rolls; I’m talking about house-made bread. Istanbul’s home-made Turkish bread is unbelievable. There’s nothing to compare it to. Of course, there’s obvious great interpretations of doughy goodness (all around the world), but my god, Istanbul’s bread is unreal. It comes with a side of olives drenched is olive oil, which is a combination I haven’t seen before – typically, bread is only served with a small portion of olive oil. The bread and oil combo should be dinner alone – portions are large and filling. All I can say, it’d suck if you’re gluten intolerant; it’d suck to miss out on such an amazing appetizer.
The Food:
The Mixed Grill Platter ($29.00):
The Mixed Grill Platter is great way to taste a variety of meats. Here’s what it brings: shish, adana, gyro and lamb chops. Now to be fair, I’m unfamiliar with the ingredients of majority of these meats, with the exception of the lamb chops, but nonetheless, the only relevant fact is….. it’s delicious. I can’t describe the taste, or give an inspiring metaphor, but the dish has great flavor profiles – savory & acid. I highly recommend it, and promise it won’t disappoint.
Kunefe or Kanafeh ($10.50):
Kunefe is a sweet cheese pasty. It’s Instagram worthy, and I wouldn’t be surprise if people solely dine at Istanbul for purpose for snapping a few shots for this delicious treat. If you know me well, I’m a feen (addict) for cheese. I love all kinds of cheese, but specifically, I love stretchy cheese (like mozzarella). There’s been many “it’s my precious” moments (Lord of the Rings reference) when confronted with platters of cheese, so the idea of me passing up an opportunity is unfathomable. The Kunefe is a little weird. The pasty is similar to fine noodles intricately woven into two patties with the gooiest slab of cheese in between. The dish, as mentioned, is Instagram worthy, and it taste delicious. Although, it’s not as sweet as I anticipated, which is fine.
I can only imagine how good Turkish food is. I can't wait to try their street food.

Aegean Island Boat Trip from Icmeler
Aegean Island Boat Trip from Icmeler
There are few better ways to spend your vacation than taking a boat trip through the serene and pristine waters around the secluded Aegean Islands off the Gulf of Hisaronu. Nothing can match the peace and relaxation of a great boat trip and one of the best places to book one, is from the quiet resort town of Icmeler, located at the western tip of the Gulf of Marmaris.
The scenic, golden beaches of Icmeler where the Aegean Sea meets the Mediterranean would be the ideal place to start off your vacation and then, embark on your boat trip through the tranquil islands and bays of the Aegean Sea.
The boat ride is for one entire day, which includes 6 stops of 30 to 40 minutes each, making a circle around the Gulf of Hisaronu while going from one island to another.
Icmeler Aegean Island Boat Trip Details
This Aegean Island Boat Trip from Icmeler consists of:
1. Time: The duration of the trip is from 9 am when you leave your hotel to around 6 pm when you return. The time to the wharf is roughly 30 minutes.
2. Meals: A continental lunch will be provided which includes white-meat chicken, green salad, pasta and bread, and local fruits of the season.
3. Local drinks will be available in unlimited amounts.
4. You can take the tour on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The boat which will be utilized for the trip has two decks with the lower deck having an indoor lounge, where you can get shelter from the sun and also, drop into the bar for drinks and lunch. The upper deck, laid out under the open sky is furnished with sun beds and mattresses where you can work on your tan and if so inclined, dance to your heart’s content to the passionate Turkish music.
This Aegean Island tour on the boat from Icmeler will include the following stops:
First stop: The first stop is at Orpan Bay, where you get to visit one of the largest marinas of the Aegean coast of Marmaris, in the district of Martha Marino. Walk down the golden beaches of the Kiz Kumu to the Maiden Sand, which is a marina with a flagship restaurant and is surrounded by legendary beaches which have been centers of civilization since the Ancient Romans.
Second Stop: The second stop of this Icmeler Aegean Island Boat trip is the Selimiye Bay, named after Selim II, the heir to Sultan Suleiman, the Magnificent and the beautiful Roksolana (Anastasiya Lisovskaya.) This bay is also widely known as the Bay of Drunks, a reference to Selim II, who was an ardent patron of Greek Wine and a fervent admirer of the beauty of the female form. The legend is that Selim II died here, after falling off a cliff. Another legend however, states that he died in the Haman after drunkenly chasing after one of his favorite mistresses, leading him to fall and suffer a fatal blow to his head on the marble floor of the Hamam.
Third Stop: The third stop is at Camellia Island, where you get the option to go for a swim or take a walk up to an ancient Byzantine Church, dating back to the 12th century. White, pink and black mosaics exquisitely decorate the surrounding areas. At the entrance of the church, there is a mosaic circle where people make wishes to fulfill all their non-material desires. Also, near the church there is an ancient olive tree, which surprisingly still bears fruit and where people go to make wishes of a material sort.
Fourth Stop: The fourth stop is at the volcanic island of Sharp teeth. It is named such, because the hardened lava has given rise to a shape, which when looked at from a birds-eye point of view, resembles the open mouth of a Giant Dragon. The numerous small shells scattered about the island are believed to bring about good luck in financial matters.
Fifth Stop: The fifth stop is at Rabbit Island, which is a private island owned by the proprietor of one of the most expensive hotels in Tukey, formerly known as the SelectMaris. This island’s aim was to provide a peaceful, secluded retreat for famous politicians and film stars, away from the public glare. Have a nice time feeding and petting the rabbits which were introduced here by the hotel for the guest’s recreation.
Sixth Stop: The sixth and final stop of this Aegean Island Boat Trip from Icmeler is the Bay Aquariam. Out here, the water is denser and of a much darker shade of blue than the surroundings. Lose yourself in the crystal clear, beautiful dark blue waters and maybe even go for a refreshing swim.

Entertainment
Our experienced team at D Maris Bay is on hand to look after clients' every need to ensure an enjoyable and carefree stay from check-in to departure.
A raw, unspoiled landscape traced by many small bays and coves, the Datça Peninsula stretches over 80 kilometers from east to west from the mainland until it reaches the ancient Greek settlement of Knidos, a former trading port that overlooks the sea where the Mediterranean meets the Aegean. The peninsula’s north coast is low lying, with vast beaches caressed by the Etesian winds in summer; the south coast is dramatically rocky and indented. It is here one finds D Maris Bay, which occupies a panoramic perch on a narrow outcrop in the middle of an unblemished nature reserve that is ringed by beaches. Guests may admire the rugged scenery set off by the rich red volcanic deposits that dot the landscape, the aftermath of volcanic activity from the distant past, together with the dark olive and pale green almond trees, pine forests and mesmerizing blue waters.
Accommodation
Taking inspiration from the hotel’s location on the peninsula that marks the boundary between the Aegean and Mediterranean, the sophisticated interior design blends two styles: the comfort and contemporary minimalism of the West with the exoticism of the East. Dark wood detailing, walls in soothing beige tones and classic Italian marble are decorative elements seen in the property’s 196 guestrooms, which include 36 suites and a luxurious villa. Travelers will find tranquil spaces with private balconies and terraces offering peace and quiet after a day at the beach.
