Hi guys. Discover the beauty of Oman, our second home. Meet my Muscat family and see how we never get tired of clinging to each other. LeLz.
We left Muscat at 4 AM and drove all the way to Jebel Akhdar. We had a couple of stops for bladder breaks and to appreciate the dawn peeking in the sky over the cold rocky mountains. Then we had a hearty breakfast in one of the parks with nice gazebos and took videos and pictures, a lot of pictures. From Jebel Akhdar, we had a short stop to Wadi Bani Habib, a dry wadi along our way. We met some of the locals who are also visiting the wadi and they welcomed us warmly. The trail was steep and hiking back to the road worked us out. Then we went to the cliffs of Jebel Akhdar to witness the breath taking wonder of nature. It was formerly a sea bed and after thousands of years it was a mountain reaching almost 10,000 feet above sea level. After taking some photos, we dropped by Nizwa Fort for some indoor activity because its getting too warm outdoors. Luckily we were the last batch of tourists to get in. The history and culture of Nizwa is so rich and they also restored the fort which makes it less creepy because it is called The Murder Hole. A lot of tourists can be seen exploring the fort. The souq was a reflection of their culture and skills. They sell lots of clay pots made by the locals as well as souvenir items. It was noon when we left the fort and we stopped in a gasoline station to refresh ourselves with cold drinks and hit the road in scorching heat to Al Hoota Cave. We had a quick lunch along the way to Al Hoota Cave where some local families are having picnic. The kids were running around and playing. My friend, Iola shared her birthday balloons to those kids and they were so happy they even gave back some sweets to us. So adorable! We hit the road again to the cave and tourists are all over the place. It was quite crowded and fortunately we booked for the 2 PM tour. We took an electric train to bring us to the cave however, taking photos and videos inside is prohibited. After the tour, we had ice cream! It was just perfect! Our last itinerary for the day is Jebel Shams, the highest peak of Oman. It is about 40 minutes away from the cave and we were able to take a power nap to fuel us for the rest of the trip. The road to the peak was narrow and we are blessed to have a skilled tour guide/driver with us. We reached the cliff with the breath taking view comparable to the Grand Canyons. There were 2 or 3 groups whole are also enjoying the view however they left ahead of us. The air was cold and chilly because of the altitude of the mountain range. The sky is just perfect for taking pictures. It was amazing. Iola let go of her red balloon where we wrote our birthday wished for her. Before the sun begins to set, we had to hurry and go back to the city. The trail is not ideal for driving during the night.
It is poorly lit and to narrow. We spent quality time together, almost without access to the internet in the mountains of Nizwa. Everyone had a blast and still have the energy to chit chat on our way back to Muscat.
Our 17-hour road trip last December 2, 2016 wrapped in a 10 minute video. It was a day to remember. It was Iola's birthday and OMG - Oh my goat! We made a lot of memories! Lelz. Things might have not turned out as planned but we made the most out of it. Shout out to Anna for the vegan chocolate cake and to Yaku, our tour guide! :)

Oman Desert Adventure
Oman is one of Arabia’s true gems - a land of rugged coastlines and vast deserts where tradition and progress go hand in hand. This wonderful adventure takes us from the heart of its picturesque capital, deep into mountains and deserts of the Bedu and the old Omani Imamate.
We will take in the breathless landscapes of the Hajar Mountains and the shifting sands of Wahiba, explore the old forts of Jabrin and Nizwa and journey into the vast emptiness of the Rub Al Khali, the Empty Quarter. It is a journey of incredible contrasts, following in the footsteps of the pioneering explorers of old and taking in some of the richest natural and cultural highlights that Arabia has to offer.
Amazing Oman Muscat, Nizwa
World Heritage Sites. Nizwa, Bahla Fort, Aflaj Irrigation
Nizwa is a city in inland Oman 172 km east of Muscat. Some years ago it was a hotbed of insurrection in Oman, but today it is Oman's second most popular tourist destination. Much of Arabia's handicraft industries are based in Nizwa, including production of the traditional khanjar daggers still worn by everyone from police to immigration agents and hotel doormen.

Nizwa Fort (Oman, 17th century)
he round tower of the largest fort in the Arabian Peninsula had an ingenious defence system.
Narration
The Sultanate of Oman is located on the Arabian Peninsula. Due to its geographical location, it has often witnessed attacks, for which reason numerous forts have been built on its territory over the centuries. The town of Nizwa, which was earlier a commercial, religious and cultural centre, is the oldest city in the country. The Nizwa fort is the largest of its kind on the Arabian Peninsula and is also the most visited monument in the Sultanate.
The fort was built in the second half of the 17th century, although its foundations actually date back to the 12th century. The fort is protected by a wall surrounded by towers and bastions, which also forms part of the city wall.
The main component of the fort is a huge round tower that is 30 metres high and has a diameter of 36 metres.
Its massive inner wall was reinforced with sand and gravel to strengthen its defence against cannon fire. The outer wall is coated with a special layer of lime plaster. The forts' deep wells, storage facilities, cells and place of prayer made it possible for its defenders to survive long sieges.
The tower's defence system reflects the ingenuity of the Omani military engineers and architects. To ensure surveillance of the whole area, the battlement was designed with arrow slits and observation points. Slots were carved in the walls for the snipers, so that the bullets could hit their target with deadly accuracy.
A sheltered terrace was built on top of the tower, right above the entrance, from where one could hurl stones at besiegers. The only way attackers could reach the top of the tower was by climbing a dark, steep, narrow, winding stairway one by one. Nor was a battering ram of much use in breaking down the reinforced doors.
Also, defenders had a number of surprises in store for attackers on both sides of the doors. Boiling liquid would be poured onto unwanted visitors through the shafts from the upper floor, while an almost invisible trapdoor would await those who did manage to enter through the gate.
Although the majestic castle was rebuilt on several occasions, it still bears witness to Oman's bright past. Year after year it attracts a great number of tourists.
Oman Road Trip | Nizwa, Muscat & Wadi Shab
During June we took a road trip from Dubai to Oman over the Eid holiday. We decided to visit a few areas of Oman including Nizwa which was on the outskirts of the mountains. While we were here we took the chance to visit a traditional village in the hills called Misfat. After that we drove down to Muscat and based ourselves here for two nights. We visited Wadi Shab, the Mosque and the old town including the souq.
