Abandoned Ski Slopes of Zao Onsen | Japan 2016 | Episode 17 Pt 2
Part 1 left us with a decision, continue hiking up the ski resort despite the weather taking a slight turn for the worse, or head back down the slope. It didn’t take us much time to deliberate and Part 2 picks up with us heading out. But what was our decision and where did we head?
After our ski resort hike we eventually found ourselves back at the base of the slopes and our ryokan where we took some private time to enjoy the onsen. We did emerge from the ryokan and took the camera along as we explored Zao Onsen a little more. We found beautiful views down into the valley as the sun set, a relaxing foot onsen, oddly flavoured ice cream, and of course another mystery steamed bun at Family Mart.
We closed out the day with our last kaiseki meal of the trip, and one we looked forward to all day as it was to include shabu-shabu. The meal was excellent! Sleep was not an issue for us that night, after a half day of hiking and full bellies. We turned in for the night, resting for our journey to Osaka in the next episode.
