Omsk Омск is a city and the administrative center of Omsk Oblast, Russia, located in southwestern Siberia. It is Russia's second-largest city east of the Ural Mountains after Novosibirsk. Omsk acts as an essential transport node, serving as a train station for Trans-Siberian Railway and as a staging post for the Irtysh River.
During the Imperial era, Omsk used to be the seat of the Governor General of Western Siberia and, later, of the Governor General of the Steppes. For a brief period during the Russian Civil War in 1918–1920, it served as the capital of the anti-Bolshevik Russian State and held the imperial gold reserves.
Omsk is the administrative center of the Siberian Cossack Host. It also serves as the episcopal see of the bishop of Omsk and Tara, as well as the administrative seat of the Imam of Siberia. (Wikipedia)

Vladimir Putin Blockade Leningrad Moscow State University
Блокада Ленинграда
Vladimir Putin visited the historical building of Moscow State University at Mokhovaya Street ahead of Russian Students Day.
During his visit to the MSU Museum of Anthropology, the President was shown the veil from the reliquary of St Zosima of Solovki (died on April 17, 1478), a co-founder of the Solovetsky Monastery. The image embroidered in gold thread on gold cloth was found in the museum’s collection in 2017 and subsequently restored at the Grabar Art Conservation Centre. According to the centre’s experts, the veil was manufactured at the turn of the 19th century. A similar veil of St Zosima made in 1661 is kept in the collection of the State Russian Museum in St Petersburg.
Vladimir Putin also met with MSU students, who showed him their designs for a digital culture and education centre for students and for the National Student Theatre Festival. They also told the President about the LANAT School Research Laboratory, which aims to encourage talented children to get involved in research projects.

STORYLINE:
North Korean leader Kim Jong Il arrived Tuesday in the Western Siberian city of Omsk for his first lengthy stopover on his 10-day train journey to Moscow.
Presidential envoy in the Siberian federal district Leonid Drachevsky and regional leaders welcomed Kim on the railway platform.
Amid high security, Kim ducked into a Volvo with a North Korean flag without approaching journalists, who were kept at a distance of about 50 meters.
He was to go straight from the train station to an Omsk theatre for a performance of a folk ensemble and a military band.
He will then spend the night at a dacha for visiting officials and foreign dignitaries.
On Wednesday, local officials plan to take Kim to a tank factory and a pig farm.
Officials in Omsk, about 2,250 kilometers east of Moscow, said a previously scheduled visit to a tank firing range had been canceled because of security concerns.
Media access to the North Korean leader is heavily restricted, and officials said Kim is not expected to make any statements in Omsk.
Kim is expected to arrive in Moscow on Saturday for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin which are likely to focus on economic issues.
But it's also thought Moscow might be looking to influence North Korea away from its continuing isolationism.
