Ömürlü Ceramics , Turquie ( Full HD )
Ömürlü Ceramics is a family business in Avanos. Ömürlü Ceramics began in 1807 as a family run shop with 2-3 potters and incorporated in 2005. The shop now employs 20-25 potters and artists. As a gallery, Ömürlü displays works from master potters in Konya, Izmir, Iznik, Kütahya, and Istanbul. The shop, built into the side of a mountain, hosted our tour at their workshop for a demonstration of pottery making. The demonstration included throwing pottery using the traditional kick-wheel and the painting, baking and glazing needed to turn clay into a ceramic work of art.

Pot making Demonstration at Avanos Capadoccia, Turkey.
The town of Avanos is for its historic tradition of pottery making that has been produced as far back 2000 BC in time of Hittites. It is well known through-out the country and abroad for the red clay products made by locals. Hundreds of the village men are skilled in making pots, plates, wine holders, ashtrays, chess sets etc. The clay for these products is acquired directly from mineral-rich mud that found along the Red River (Turkey's longest river).

Cappadocia Land of Fairy Chimneys (Turkey 1)
The Göreme National Park is a World Heritage Site in the Nevşehir Province of Central Anatolia. The Hoodoo rock formations are large rock formations that were formed between 70 and 75 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period. The lava came from the eruption of the volcano, Mount Erciyes (ancient Argaeus) being 3916 m high. Erosion over many millennia sculpted curvy cliff faces and pointy, fairy, rock spires. Traditional Cappadocian houses and pigeonholes were carved out in the soft rock.
The fairy chimneys really are a fairyland! Let your mind relax and you can see Bugs Bunny, dogs kissing or whatever you want to see!
A hike through the Rose Valley followed by the Red Valley is a great experience: towering rocks, tunnels through the rocks, pigeonholes high in the cliff faces, huge trees, to name but a few. The hike ends in Cavusin, an ancient village with hundreds of cave houses. The earthquake of 1963 destroyed many of the houses and the remaining ones will most probably not last too long.
Göreme is not only an interesting town but also picturesque and photogenic. Ordinary lights shining out of the large ant heaps create a special and beautiful night scene
We visited Kaymakli Underground city. The low and narrow tunnels provide access to eight floors of which only the first four are on display now It is unreal to think people lived there for months.
There are numerous restaurants along the streets. We had brunch and drinks at the Panorama café and dinner at the One Way restaurant where their pottery kebab is something unusual.
We paid a visit to the Government sponsored weaving school in Avanos. It is a great incentive of the government and a very interesting place to visit. Turkish silk carpets are just beautiful. What else can I say!
Turkish pottery has a tradition of excellence and perfection. Cappadocias pottery goes back to the Hittites. Ömürlü Ceramics is a family owned business since 1807. Exquisite and unique handcrafted pieces are sold exclusively through the showroom in Avanos. I left with a heavy heart - if only I could have.............!

Cappadocia is one of Turkey’s most popular tourist destinations because of the mysterious fairy chimneys that have made its landscape so iconic. However, in the town of Avanos it is also the tradition of pottery making in the ateliers of craftsmen that attracts visitors.
