Michigan State Parks - Park Travel Review
We had not gotten to Michigan yet in our adult lives. We were excited to go hike with our friends Dana and Eileen of the Beerbellied Travelers. Find them here:
They planned an epic camping and hiking State Park Adventure for us. By the end we sure felt like we knew more of the meaning of #PureMichigan.
We visited 4 State Parks on our Michigan road Trip. They were: Onaway State Park, Cheboygan State Park, Michilimackinac State Park, and Petoskey State Park. Each had something new and unique for us to see. We had the best time with our friends and can't wait to see them again!

2019 Campground Reviews - Park Travel Reviews
2019 was our first year RV camping. We have a Forest River A-frame travel trailer. These are the campgrounds we visited along with some facts and views from each.
Campgrounds listed in this video are:
Onondaga Cave State Park, Missouri: Onondaga Cave State Park campground offers basic and electric/water campsites and a special-use camping area. For a little extra space, try one of the park's family campsites.
The campground also contains a playground and an amphitheater. Camping supplies are available at the park store.
Illini Campground at Hazlet State Park, Illinois: Eldon Hazlet SRA is probably best known for its camping facilities. The Illini Campground has 328 Class A campsites with 30 and 50 amp electrical hook-ups, 36 Class C campsites for walk-in tent camping and two rustic rent-a-cabins. A campground store and public swimming pool are located at the campground.
Giant City State Park: Giant City is a popular weekend retreat because of its varied and well-kept campground facilities. There are 85 campsites in the Class A Campground which provides water, electricity, showers and sanitary facilities for tent and trailer camping. The shower building in the Class A site closes the day after the first shotgun deer season (weather depending) and re-opens April 1st. A separate Class A equestrian campground is located off the horse trail in the southwest corner of the park. A Class C camping area is located at the south end of the campground and offers 14 walking sites, for those who prefer a more primitive setting. Outdoor privies, fire rings and access to showers are provided. The trailhead to the Red Cedar trail is located nearby for those who wish to hike 6 miles to the primitive Red Cedar Campsite. Pre-registration is required at the Visitor Center or with the camp host.
Onaway State Park, Michigan: Onaway State Park is located on the southeast shore of beautiful Black Lake in Presque Isle County. The park encompasses 158 acres of rugged but picturesque land, including sand cobblestone beaches, large unique rock out-croppings and a diverse variety of trees. You may observe all these natural features by hiking the park's three-mile nature trail. The campground, set among virgin white pines, offers solitude and serenity and plenty of family fun.
Hawn State Park, Missouri: Hawn State Park offers basic, electric and walk-in campsites. The park also has a special-use camping area.
Long Branch State Park, Missouri: Long Branch State Park offers basic and electric campsites and a special-use camping area. There are also several walk-in basic campsites available. For a little extra space, try one of the park's family campsites.
Stop by the park store to pick up some camping supplies.
Cherry Creek State Park, Colorado: Welcome to Denver’s natural and spacious backyard playground. There’s so much to see and enjoy. Summers are busy and action packed while off-peak times are quiet and laid back. Anchored around a 880 surface acre reservoir, the park offers a natural prairie environment of gentle, rolling hills and complete outdoor recreation facilities, including camping, picnicking and facilities for group events.
James M Robb/ Colorado River State Park, Colorado: The Fruita section campground provides: A visitor center and bookstore, Playgrounds, Great fishing, Walking distance to the Dinosaur Journey Museum, Walking distance to shopping and restaurants, Views of the Grand Valley and the Bookcliffs and Colorado National Monument, and Full hook-up or electric hook-up.
Gros Ventre Campground - GTNP, Wyoming: The park's largest campground is in the southeast part of the park, closest to the town of Jackson. Sagebrush and grasses cover the campground as cottonwoods and blue spruce rise above. The Gros Ventre River is a short stroll away. Some sites offer views of the Grand Teton and Blacktail Butte. Wildlife including bison, moose and mule deer frequent the area. Maximum stay is 14 nights.
Curt Gowdy State Park, Wyoming: There are a total of 159 campsites; 90 reservation only sites and 69 first come, first served campsites. Reserveable sites can be reserved May 1 - September 30, a maximum of four (4) months before arrival.
Meramec State Park, Missouri: Meramec State Park offers basic, electric, electric/water and sewer/electric/water campsites, as well as group tent areas. The park's store carries a variety of camping necessities.
Sam A Baker State Park, Missouri: Sam A. Baker State Park has two campgrounds and an equestrian campground. The park also has a special-use camping area. Both regular campgrounds offer family campsites for those who need a little extra space. The park store offers supplies for your camping stay.

Ride around Andrus Lake State Forest Campground in Paradise Mi.
Nice campground. If you look at my other videos, of us running the 1926 Johnson outboard, we were running it on the lake here off the campground.
This is a rustic campground, with NO electric or running water. There are only old out houses for toilets... but it's still quite and nice.

Shari G.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Ranger Review: Seattle Sports Explorer 10L Dry Bag & E-Merse R/S Go Pack at Platte River Campground
Campground Review: Having been to over 45 national park campgrounds now, Platte River Campground is one of our new favorites! Wow, what a beauty! This large and beautifully wooded campground has spacious sites, a paved road throughout the campground, extremely clean bathrooms and free showers, and multiple lakes and rivers which lead to the greater Lake Michigan. Most sites have electricity (which is quite rare for national park campgrounds), all have picnic tables and fire rings, and water spigots are scattered throughout the campground. It can accommodate everything from tents to very large RV’s. There is even a unique firewood vending truck which allows you to get wood whenever you want it! There are multiple boat ramps/put-ins for canoes, tubes, kayaks, and small fishing boats all along the Platte River and a larger boat ramp at the river’s entrance to Lake Michigan. The gorgeous day use area (where the larger boat ramp is located) is filled with picnic tables, benches, BBQ grills, and a bathroom and changing area, as well as canoe rentals and a shuttle service. In addition to camping and paddling, there are nearby hiking trails, an excellent bike path, and the famous Sleeping Bear Dunes are a short drive away.

Product Review: As a Ranger for The Dyrt, I was able to test the Explorer 10L Dry Bag and E-Merse R/S Go Pack from Seattle Sports while camping and paddling at the Platte River campground in Michigan. We used these dry bags while paddling on the Platte River and Lake Michigan.
What I like most about these bags:
1. The material is heavy and all seams are sealed, both bags should live up to their water-resistant claims.
2. Each bag has comfortable and convenient carrying straps, which accommodate many uses, probably the best use for each will be for stand-up paddle boarding.
3. The Go-Pack has a see -through vinyl window which helps identify what is where....

Tiki Travel RV Park & Campground in St Ignace Michigan offers full, partial, and primitive (no water, electric, or sewer) hookup RV and tent camping 1 block from the lake shore. The nice park is located up a dead-end paved street just north of the main drag of downtown St Ignace. The closest full hookup RV park to town you would not know it when inside the park. The sites are set among towering pine and hardwood trees with gravel/ dirt roads and parking pads creating a state park feel versus a standard RV park. Sites have picnic tables and fire rings. RV sites are capable of handling big rigs and can be reasonably level. Pull thru and backin options are available and all use the available space wisely for navigation in and out.
Upon arrival at Tiki Travel RV Park & Campground our tip is to park in front of the row of pull thrus on the right versus pulling around in front of the office; this will avoid you having to make a U-turn to go to your site.
The park generously accepts most discount club cards including Passport America. A free shuttle, handled by the boat ferry company, can get you from the park to the docks for the ferry trip to Mackinac Island. One of the primary draws to the area Mackinac Island is the 2nd established US National Park behind Yellowstone but has since been handed back over to the state for operation.
Guests coming from the south will cross the Mackinac bridge which does require a toll. For drivers in RVs the toll is higher than pickups with trailers but is not overly burdensome (as of 2017).
Tiki Travel RV Park & Campground maintain a small coin op laundry, restrooms with showers and a store for last minute items and wood. The prime spot for the park is one pull in right out in front. Usually claimed by a seasonal guest this site can look out down the road and over the water.
