Maungakiekie - One Tree Hill - Roadside Stories
The second-largest of the 46 volcanoes that dot the Auckland landscape, Maungakiekie was once the site of a massive pā (fortified village), home to several thousand people. By the time of European settlement the pā had been abandoned, and a single tōtara tree grew on the summit. This was later replaced by a single Monterey pine, and Maungakiekie became known as One Tree Hill.

Urban Country Living - Best of both Worlds
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Hidden in the midst of the bustling Auckland Central is a sanctuary that preserves the spirit and essence of the country lifestyle. Ever sought after, there are only a few properties on Maungakiekie Avenue that rest park side - the prestigious Cornwall Park begins from your backyard.
Freehold opportunities on Maungakiekie Avenue scarcely present themselves--- many houses on the street are owned by the Cornwall Park Trust Board and for lease only. This limited opportunity is the peerless blending of a character lifestyle home and prime real estate location.
On 1,284 sqm of prime (freehold) land, the sound and solid home was originally built in the 1920s - renovate, keep as is or bring your architect to view. The possibilities are boundless.
With 5 bedrooms,3 bathrooms and expansive living areas, there is space in this beauty for everyone and every occasion. Invite friends and family over to a barbeque on the deck, or host a sleep over party for the kids, or simply walk your dog out the backyard into Cornwall Park. A few short steps takes you to atmospheric café or elegant restaurant, and a quick stroll takes you a top the picturesque One Tree Hill- this is living.
The beauty of Cornwall Park aside, this gem sits in one of the most attractive areas of Auckland. Easy access to motorways, CBD, and the airport - you can't really find much better in Auckland.
It doesn't matter whether you are upgrading your family home, or a canny investor looking for a quality asset. You could move right in, or completely redevelop. This is it, the dream Kiwi home. Seize the day, and seize this opportunity while you can.

Walking Up One Tree Hill
Seeing that it was a beautiful Friday afternoon, me and Wiri thought we will go for a walk up One Tree Hill and fly the Dji Mavic drone.
History:
Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill is a 182-metre (597 ft) volcanic peak in Auckland, New Zealand. It is an important memorial place for both Māori and other New Zealanders. The suburb around the base of the hill is also called One Tree Hill. It is surrounded by the suburbs of Royal Oak to the west, and clockwise, Epsom, Greenlane, Oranga, and Onehunga. The summit provides views across the Auckland area and allows visitors to see both of Auckland's harbours.
The Hill's scoria cones erupted from three craters – one is intact and two have been breached by lava flows that rafted away part of the side of the scoria cone. Lava flows went in all directions, many towards Onehunga, covering an area of 20 square kilometres (7.7 sq mi), making it the second largest (in an area covered) of the Auckland volcanic field, behind Rangitoto Island. The age of eruption is currently unknown, but it is older than 28,500 years as it has a mantling of volcanic ash erupted at that time from Te Tātua-a-Riukiuta volcano.

Rangitoto, Auckland's youngest volcano - Roadside Stories
The landscape of New Zealand's largest city is dotted with 48 volcanoes. The oldest volcano last erupted some 150,000 years ago -- the youngest, Rangitoto Island, is just 600 years old. A symmetrical volcanic cone, it has been colonised by red-flowering pōhutukawa forest.

Royal Enfield classic 350 | Volcano series | EP 3 | One Tree Hill, New Zealand
Hello Friends
As promised, we are back with another thrilling episode in our Auckland Volcano Series. In this 3rd Episode (please make sure to check out Ep 1 and 2 as well if you like it) we are once again riding our Royal Enfield Classic 350 motorcycle(Dugdug) to the very stunning, One Tree Hill. In our Quest to climb to the top of One Tree Hill, we started out journey in Parnell and passed through New Market and Epsom. It was a typical Auckland day with Rain and Sun fighting for their claim to the beautiful landscape we call Auckland. Ultimately as it usually does in Auckland, the Rain won the battle, forcing us to retire back home for the day. We started the journey again the next day and reached Royal Oak by 11:00 am. After a quick coffee and smoked fish pie we started exploring One Tree Hill on foot and eventually reached the summit.
I am so excited to share this journey with you and I am sure you will enjoy it a lot. There is no other such detailed video about One Tree Hill on Youtube with all the information so make sure you don't miss out on this one.
I will be catching you once again very soon with another beautiful journey to another beautiful destination. Stay tuned in and don't forget to Subscribe to the channel.
Regards.

There was quite a bit of wind during this flight and I must say I was pleasantly surprised how steady the video on the Bebop is!
This is a really neat little unit!
