Beautiful Shiga, Japan- September, 08, 2019
At the Azuchi Castle Archaeological Museum in Shiga, Japan, my granddaughters, Jessica and Larissa, raved about the challenge of researching and answering 10 questions about the historical and socio-cultural exhibits at this museum. After answering correctly, they received, as a souvenir, a beautiful, white Jomon shell that is the name of the first culture in the Japanese archipelago. The granddaughters were happy to have the opportunity to take pictures of people who pretended to be samurai and ninjas. They also were astonished at the replica of the house where the feudal lord Oda Nobunaga lived. This feudal lord was a major figure in Japanese history in the Sengoku period by military conquests dominating almost all of Japan. With the conquest, Nobunaga accumulated great wealth and invested a great deal in art and culture. To elevate his prestige, he built grand and beautiful gardens and castles. Such true works of art. Azuchi Castle, on the edge of Lake Biwa, is considered the grandest castle in Japan, covered in gold and statues on the outside, and decorated with fixed canvas, sliding doors, walls and inside ceiling paintings by his subject Kano. Eitoku from the Kano Art School which Nobunaga sponsored. Certainly, my granddaughters remembered and learned about the Japanese history of this period by successfully accomplishing the cultural challenge. Another place, smelling of vegetation, called La Colina, caught the eye for architecture, rice crops and countless people there. Hunger tightened, and the stomach thanked with a different cuisine can contemplate the sparkling waters of Lake Biwa, as well as hear the birdsong. The afternoon was toasted with the ride at Himurehachimangu. Lovers of Japanese history will love to visit the Himure Temple (at the origin of the founding of the city) and the ruins of Hidetsugu Castle. The latter is reached by a cable car with a beautiful view of Nishinoko Lake. I have so much to thank God for another beautiful day of cultural tours here in Japan. - 08 September 2019

Yakuza and the Constitution (Yakuza to Kenpo): Film Screening with Director Koji Hijikata
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Tokai TV crew entered the office of an Osaka-based designated organized crime syndicate, Nidaime Higashi-gumi Nidaime Seiyukai, and followed them for 100 days. Yakuza and the Constitution captures the backgrounds of Seiyukai members and their possible engagement with shinogi (yakuza’s fundraising activities), an ojiki (uncle figure) member treating a new member like his son, as well as a member’s arrest followed by a police raid.
Musashi vs Inshun
Inshun was a Buddhist monk, head of the Hōzōin temple, and guardian of all the temples of Nara, who founded a school of Sōjutsu called Hōzōin-ryū. In'ei was a connoisseur of the martial arts, having practiced Nen-ryū under Toda Yosaemon and Iizasa Chōisai Ienao's Katori Shinto-ryū. In'ei was noted for having arranged the meeting between Kamiizumi Ise no kami Nobutsuna and Yagyū Sekishusai Muneyoshi, being the catalyst for the creation of Yagyū Shinkage-ryū.
He passed on leadership of the school to other Buddhist monks of his order, including Hōzōin Inshun (1589-1648), Hōzōin Insei (1624-1689), Hōzōin Infū (1682-1731), and Hōzōin Inken (1746-1808).
The school was revived and updated in the nineteenth century by Takeda Sōkaku (1858-1943), who introduced the use of bamboo practice swords (shinai).
In'ei and his school feature in the manga series Vagabond, in which he has retired as master of Hōzōin-ryū, only to train Miyamoto Musashi to defeat his successor.

2012年 小津獅子舞太刀(1/9)-太刀遣い(天然理心流棍法(棒術))(1/4)
Otsu Shishimai Tachi 2012(1/9) -Tachi-zukai(Tennen Rishin-ryu Bojutsu)(1/4)
Tennen Rishin-ryu was traditional Japanese mixed martial arts which consisted of not only Kenjutsu (sword art) but also Bojutsu (staff art), Jujutsu, and Kijutsu (Qi art).
Although Kenjutsu, Bojutsu, and Jujutsu were handed down from Kondo, Sansuke (the 2nd generation master) to only Masuda, Zoroku (number one disciple in the 3rd generation) and his disciple Yamamoto, Manjiro (the 4th generation), these were thought to be lost after the Meiji Restoration.
(Kijutsu was lost earlier than others by the sudden death of Sansuke.)
However, it was reported that only Bojutsu had been quietly handed down as a festival's dedication ceremony around Hachioji.
(The Hiden, 2011 Jun. )
The video above is Otsu Shishimai Tachi (lion dance & sword dance) which showed Tennen Rishin-ryu Bojutsu as usher for lion dance in dedication to Kumano Shrine in Otsu-machi, Hachioji City.
(recorded on Aug. 12, 2012)
Otsu's lion dance which continues to be observed since 400 years ago is appointed as an intangible folk cultural asset of Hachioji City.
