Onoji Temple (大野寺), Uda City, Southern Nara Prefecture
Onoji Temple (大野寺) is a small but beautiful temple located in Uda City in Southern Nara Prefecture. I went to this temple, on my way to the Murouji Temple. This is a small temple but highlight of this temple is a large kannon figure (or resemblance) that was carved naturally on a mountain rock across from the temple. It was a great sight to watch.

Murouji Temple (室生寺), Uda City, Nara Prefecture
Murouji Temple (室生寺) is a very important temple in Uda city in remote Nara Prefecture. This temple was established by Kobo Daishi Kukai, who is the founder of Shingon Sect of Buddhism. This temple can be easily reached from the Kintetsu MurouguchiOno Station by bus.
Shorin-ji Temple on the Ogura Hills in Nara!
Shorin-ji is an old Buddhist temple situated on the Hill Ogura in the Tanzan Mountain system to the south of the Nara Basin. From this hill, one can look out over Hashi-haka (chopstick tomb), which is regarded as the tomb of Himiko (queen of the first Japanese dynasty, ca. 3rd century AD) and the woody site of the Omiwa shrine, the oldest shrine in Japan. This area is the cradle of Japan, the ancient Yamato.
According to tradition, Shorin-ji was built in 712 to pray for the prosperity of the Fujiwara family, the most influential aristocratic family at that time. In its long history, Shorin-ji saw many fires, which prompted the rebuilding of all existing buildings in the 18th century during the Edo period. Most of its treasures were also burnt except some Buddhist paintings and statues. At around the Meiji Restoration in 1868, the Eleven-headed Kannon or Goddess of Mercy (Ekadasamukha) statue was transferred to the Shorin-ji from Omiwa-dera temple located in the Omiwa shrine site, and since then, the Shorin-ji has been well-known because of this exquisite statue.
This statue, 209 cm tall and covered with gold foil on dry lacquer with a wooden core, is typical of Japanese Buddhist carvings of the Nara period (8th century) and is designated as a National Treasure. The figure is well-proportioned and massive, and is ranked equal to the Grecian Venus de Melo. On the other hand, the facial expressions are divine as if she were gazing at eternity.
It is also worth noticing that this famous statue was enshrined in Omiwa shrine, which is a Mecca for Shintoism, and related closely to ancient Shinto although it was carved when Buddhism was in full flourish in this country.

Murouji temple in Uda city, Nara pref. - Japan Trip -
Murouji temple is a bit far from major temples in Nara city, Japan.
This temple is located silently in a forest, so that there is nothing special within a walking distance of the temple. But the temple has an over 1200 year history, and there are some natinal treasure buildings and Buddhist statues in the temple.
Also, you can enjoy beautiful nature throughout the year. Especially, the fall may be the best season to visit this temple. I was sorry that almost all leaves had fallen when I made a visit, but I hope you can enjoy this cozily small temple in this video.
Thanks.

Chuguji Temple (中宮寺), Ikaruga Town, Nara Prefecture
Chuguji Temple (中宮寺) is a small but beautiful temple located a few minutes walk from the famous Horyuji Temple. This temple was used as a nunnery but it was most famous for the Miroku Bosatsu (Bodhisattva) wooden statue. Unlike some of the worship halls, this statues was open for viewing and it was a real treat to visit this temple and see this statue. Hope you get a chance to visit this temple too.

Japanese temple Open your mind's eyes feeling with five senses Yanagidani Kannon 心の目を開き五感で感じる柳谷観音
Yanagidani Kannon has been a temple praying for healing of the eye from ancient times, a temple that has been made by the people of the emperor's households, the people of great religion and healed people. The faith and tradition that lasts 1200 years is protected by the mountainous nature and transcends the times, I am breathing here.
Please enjoy the Japanese garden overlooking from the window on the second floor.

The Buddha of Murouji Temple 室生寺の仏様
A temple's Buddha statue or idol is an item of religious reverence. Getting to film one is rare. Murouji Temple granted that privilege to Hozan Kouichi. Murouji's Buddha and the beautiful nature and architecture of its grounds are an excellent way to appreciate and gain an understanding of Japanese culture and religion
