Going out for a walk in Tomioka, Fukushima.
(and finding luck)
For four years in a row, Dutch artist TINKEBELL. has visited and researched the (sociological) impact after the nuclear disaster in Fukushima (March 11 2011) since 2015. After spending a lot of time mostly in the city of Tomioka but also spread over the complete affected area, she wrote a book on the dangers of fear and hypochondria in Fukushima and she still works on a series of ongoing art projects on the spot. (see tinkebell.com)
So, about the lucky four leaved clovers. TINKEBELL. found out that the amount of four leaved clovers is notable in Tomioka. Especially in the decontaminated parcels.
But, does this mean that this a mutation caused by radiation after the nuclear disaster in Fukushima Daiichi?
The answer is: probably not.
Although we will never know for sure. Because the cause of mutation can only be found before the mutation happens.
There can be many causes for an increase of four leaved clovers. One of them is luck or coincidence. But for most people this answer is not really satisfying. Another possibility is that the four leaved clovers were already there before the accident. Or maybe the clean soil that was put in the decontaminated parcels after they took away the contaminated soil contained the seeds of already mutated clovers.
Again. We will never know.
But I go for luck.
And that is also what I wish for Tomioka and the rest of Japan.

Mount Akita-Komagatake: An Easy Climb Offering Splendid Views | Nippon.com: Japan in Video
Though its maximum elevation is a modest 1,637 meters, Mount Akita-Komagatake is the highest mountain in Akita Prefecture. It is known for the wealth of alpine plants on its slopes. And those who climb to the main peak are treated to a spectacular panorama. To the west lies ultramarine-colored Lake Tazawa. To the south is Mount Chōkai, with a shape reminiscent of Mount Fuji, straddling the Akita-Yamagata prefectural border. And Mount Iwate, the highest mountain in Iwate Prefecture, rises to the east. On the way to the top, visitors can enjoy the soothing sight of Amida Pond. Nearby is the splendid scenery of a location that has been dubbed as “Moomin Valley.” Another attraction in the area of this mountain is Akita’s Nyūtō Onsenkyō, a collection of hot spring inns nestled in a forest.
Mount Akita-Komagatake is easy to climb. A roadway leads to the visitors’ entrance to the mountain paths, located at Station 8 (one of the 10 stations punctuating the route from the base to the summit), though during the busy summer season passenger cars are excluded and access is by bus. Note that this is an active volcano, and emissions of gas are to be seen in the vicinity of Medake, one of the secondary peaks. Travelers should check in advance for reports of unusual volcanic activity.

Furano i Biel - Aoiike (Hokkaido)
Furano (富良野) and Biei (美瑛) are towns in the center of Hokkaido, known for their pleasant and picturesque rural landscapes. The best time to visit is July, when the lavender fields are in bloom. During winter, Furano turns into a popular downhill and cross country skiing resort.
The Blue Pond (青い池, Aoiike) outside the hot spring town of Shirogane Onsen is named after is deep blue color which it owes to natural minerals dissolved in the water. Not promoted as a tourist spot until recent years, the pond is part of an erosion control system that was built to prevent damage to Biei in case of an eruption by nearby Mount Tokachidake.
