Looks like we are traveling again! Flying over Mt. Fuji we arrive in Oita prefecture and specifically Beppu, a city and ♨️Hot Spring Onsen spa resort on the southern Japanese island of Kyushu. Set between Beppu Bay and volcanic mountains, it's home to more than 2,000 onsen (hot springs). Kannawa Onsen district has facilities for bathing in nutrient-rich water, mud and sand. Beppu train station features a welcoming Hand Spa just outside and many edible souvenirs to bring back home to your envious friends. Beppu is even for Japanese a dream destination ????????☀️

We took the shinkansen down to Kyushu to visit the small hot spring town Beppu, and then stay at a lovely ryokan in Yufuin.

Beppu:
First we took the Shinkansen (with our JR pass) from Shin-Osaka to Kokura, where we then took the Sonic Express to Beppu station. I think the whole trip took about 4 hours. We used this website to search for the best route:
Nishitetsu Resort Inn Beppu
We stayed at this hotel for 1 night, and we had a pleasant stay. It was quite close to the station and the beach (although it wasn’t beach season yet), and it also had a nice hot spring and good breakfast. The room was a bit small tho :’D
Aqua Garden at Suginoi Hotel
From Beppu station we took a free shuttle bus up to this hotel located on the hill, where you can look out over the city. They have a place called the Aqua Garden where you can wear swimsuits and bath together.
Toyotsune Honten
Right around the corner of our hotel we found this little place with lots of traditional japanese food. In the evening you can choose from different multi-course meals (kaiseki). Apparently they are famous for their tempura don, or tokujo tendon, but we decided to go for a Shiki Set and the Omakase Gozen (I think?? maybe we only had the “Mini Gozen”, I can’t remeber)

Yufuin:
The next day we took a train from Beppu station to Yufuin station, where we stayed at a wonderful ryokan nestled on top of a hill: Yufuin Sanso Waremokou. Ryokan are Japanese style inns found throughout the country, especially in hot spring resorts such as Beppu and Yufuin.
In our room we had two private open-air hot springs (onsen), and one bath inside as well. There was also a big open-air hot spring at the very top of the facility that you could book for private use. Needless to say we absolutely LOVED this place.
Apart from the amazing hot spring baths, dinner was definitely the highlight of our stay. Ryokan dinners usually mirror kaiseki ryori (懐石料理), which is a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner. They have different ingredients depending on the season, and for our stay we chose the Shabu-Shabu, a hotpot dish of thinly sliced meat and vegetables boiled in water.
The next day, around 8 in the morning, we had a wonderful Japanese style breakfast, with multiple dishes with local and seasonal specialties. I'm not a big fan of tofu but I was surprised how delicious it was. I think this is called hiyayakko (冷奴), chilled tofu with toppings.
Then it was time to leave, but we didn’t want to ;_; All of the staff were so friendly and they came out to wave to us when we left. I want to go back again already!

All service is done with excellence, all details and antique decorations and ikebana flowers where would wouldn't expect, delicious dishes, charming outdoor hot spring, even their yukata are most pretty I have ever seen at any Ryokan in Japan!! Traditional style building and rooms with inner garden, situated downtown near the bustling attractions but also in a secluded quiet place. And really not expensive for all this luxurious feel in traditional Japanese kindhearted style!! The owner lady always wearing stunning kimonos is actually do cute and lovely and helpful at any time!

Going to hell in Beppu! Tour of the Hells of Beppu: amazing Japanese hot springs with boiling water, a red lake, 100°C geyser, mud bubbles and more.

We went on a day trip from Fukuoka to Beppu on the Sonic Limited Express train (about 2 hours). From Beppu Station you can take the bus to the first 5 hells in the Kannawa district, then another bus to the final 2 hells. The hells we visited are: Umi Jigoku, Oniishibozu Jigoku, Kamado Jigoku, Oniyama Jigoku, Shiraike Jigoku, Chinoike Jigoku and Tatsumaki Jigoku. They're all natural hot springs, the same type as found in Japanese onsen. They really are so strange and unusual, and this was the highlight of my time in Kyushu.

Located within the hot springs prefecture of Oita in Kyushu is the world famous hot springs resort town of Beppu. Visitors can experience eight different springs here: Beppu, Kannawa, Myoban, Kankaiji, Hamawaki, Kamegawa, Horita and Shibaseki. And, not only is there a variety of springs, there are many different type of baths offered here. In additional to the conventional indoor and outdoor onsen (hot springs bath), there are facilities which offer sand baths, steam baths, or mud baths.
Ebisuya Onsen
Ebisuya is a recently renovated public bath house in the rural Myoban district of Beppu. It provides multiple bath tubs of different styles and sizes, including aroma baths and jacuzzi , as well as steam boxes.

Beppu Onsen (別府温泉?) is a group of hot springs in the city of Beppu, Ōita in Japan. Beppu Onsen is divided into eight major hot spring areas known as Beppu Hatto.
The most significant characteristic of Beppu's hot springs is the richness of its resources. The volume of water discharged is second only to that of the Yellowstone National Park in the United States, the largest hot spring resort in the world.
There are 2,909 hot spring vents within the city, and these account for more than 10% of the 27,644 hot spring vents in Japan, according to a survey conducted by the Ministry of the Environment in 2004. Staistics from the Beppu City Hall show that more than 130,000 tons of hot spring water gushes from the ground every day. This is the second largest amount of hot spring water discharge in the world, and the largest amount in Japan.
