Legend has it that storks used to bathe in the marshes of Kinosaki to heal their wounds. Later, bath houses were built over these very sites to capitalize on the healing waters. Since then Kinosaki has become one of the most popular onsen destination in the Kansai region.
Nowadays there are a number of ryokan in the area, all with their own baths equipped, but the real draw to Kinosaki are the seven public bath houses (sotoyu). Also some beautiful foot baths (ashiyu) and spring water drinking fountains are scattered throughout town.

Exploring rural Japan: The JR Kansai Line
Follow along as I investigate the first six stations of the little-known JR Kansai Line in central Japan, which runs from near Nara all the way to Nagoya. The section represented in this video passes through far southern Kyoto Prefecture and part of Mie Prefecture.
THE LOCATIONS.
The area looks blank and boring on a map. But maps lie -- as a traveler you can always find plenty to be interested in, and this video is about that reality as it unfolds along the Kansai train line. That's true of this area too. So, in this video we'll visit these stations to explore at least one site or activity at each one:
• Kamo Station (加茂)
• Kasagi Station (笠置)
• Okawara Station (大川原)
• Tsukigaseguchi Station (月ヶ瀬口)
• Shimanohara Station (島の原)
• Iga-Ueno Station (伊賀上野)
WHAT I FOUND THERE.
There turns out to be quite a lot to do on this virtually unknown train line. (Even locals I talked to didn't know much about the area!) I found a weird museum dedicated to bats, a mystical mountaintop Buddhist complex at sunset, a scary walking bridge suspended high over a river, an unusual Italian cafe hidden in the forest, a traditional Japanese hot spring full of weird characters, and much more.
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH.
Come along as I venture to each place, getting to know this part of the JR Kansai Line, its stations, its unusual sites, and its people. It's a great trip to a strange mountain area, and it was very rewarding. See if it makes you want to check out the area yourself.

Japanese Sukiyaki - INSANELY MARBLED BEEF - Traditional 100 Year-Old Food in Tokyo, Japan!

Yonekyuuhonten (米久本店) Restaurant in Tokyo
Japanese sukiyaki is one of the well known Japanese dishes - and you can eat everything from budget sukiyaki, to high end sukiyaki with extremely high quality ingredients. This 100 year old restaurants is somewhere in-between, making use of high quality ingredients, like insanely marbled beef, but not as expensive as some Japanese sukiyaki restaurants in Tokyo I came across. But along with the food, one of the main reasons I wanted to eat here is because it’s an old heritage restaurant that’s stood the test of time.
As you enter the sukiyaki restauarnt, you take off your shoes and leave them at the front of the restaurant, and when you enter, they beat the drum. You can then choose to sit in one of the many dining rooms, and they have both traditional Japanese style seating on the ground, in addition to tables as well. We got a traditional Japanese table on the ground.
For the sukiyaki, it’s best to order sets of ingredients, and you can either choose the normal beef or the special beef. I went with the special beef because of that insane marbling, but on second thought I probably would have ordered one normal beef and one special beef.
The soup is cooked on a griddle on your table, and you boil all the ingredients including leek and mung-bean noodles. But by all means the highlight is the beef, which is cut in thin strips and was some of the most insanely marbled beef I’ve ever seen. The beef was pretty much mostly fat, but it was so good. When you eat Japanese food sukiyaki, you dip each bite into raw egg as your sauce.
Yonekyuuhonten (米久本店) Restaurant is an amazing Japanese food restaurant in Tokyo, and it’s truly a piece of Tokyo culinary history.

Chartered bath at Yubaraonsen,Japan
The inn at which we stayed in Yubara Hot Spring is located most downstream.
It is located in a place distant from Sunayu of a mixed bathing open-air bath.
This inn has a good bath.
There is a large bathroom.
Moreover, there is also a chartered bath.
I took the charter bath.
There were no less than two bathtubs.
Very pleasant.

BEST THINGS TO DO IN MIE PREFECTURE: SAMPLE ITINERARY
Outside Japan, when people hear Kansai, the first prefectures that come to mind are Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara. They are the holy trinity of Kansai tourism. And it’s not difficult at all to see why. The trio offers a perfect blend of modernity, heritage, and entertainment.
But Kansai is more than just these tourism powerhouses. The region is made up seven amazing prefectures, each with something unique and fascinating to offer to curious travelers. One of them is Mie.

CENA E COLAZIONE IN RYOKAN - YOSHIOKA ONSEN
una delle nostre abbuffate in una ryokan nella prefettura di Tottori tra un bagno e l'altro...ho trovato questo materiale su internet che riporta una storia un po' diversa rispetto a quanto mi è stato raccontato su questo onsen: An intermountain hot spring resort on the southern side of Koyama Pond, its beginning can be dated back some 1,000 years. Long time ago, a beautiful girl with severe skin disease washed her face with the spring's water. According to this legend, her skin immediately became smooth and supple again. Therefore, this hot spring became known as a spring that makes the skin beautiful. Attracting widespread popularity as a place for therapeutic bathing since the old days, there even was a bathhouse for the domain lord Ikeda during the Edo era (17th - 19th centuries) when it prospered as a post station. Today, in this small hot spring resort are two foot baths and public baths respectively. With many inns having a homey atmosphere, you can indeed rest well after a long day of travelling by enjoying the warm hospitality.

Japanese Style Hotels are Awesome
We love Japanese style hotels! Ryokans or resort hotels not only provide comfortable accomodation (usually tatami style rooms) but also offer a range of activities and entertainments. It is especially important if you spent holidays with kids who have unlimited energy :)
Maya and Alex could discharge this energy at hotel swimming pool and by the sea, while shooting a bow, preparing somen noodles, playing at game center, watching a show, at BBQ, playing with fireworks, browsing souvenirs shop or just running around.
