Akita: Japan's Onsen Paradise
So, this was the most beautiful place we've been to in Japan, we think. Nyuto Onsen, especially Tsurunoyu Onsen, was an experience like we've never had before, and it's something we'll remember for the rest of our lives. Go visit Akita if you have the chance. It'll blow you away.

Located in Akita Prefecture near Tazawa Lake station by Bullet train, Nyutou hot spring area. Tsurunoyu is the famous traditional hot spring hotel in the Nyutou hot spring area

Onsen are one of my most favorite things on the face of the earth, and this one was absolutely mind-blowing. Set in the mountains near Tazawako, this place is a hidden paradise with one of the oldest and most famous natural hot spring's in all of Japan. People come from everywhere to visit, although the resort only hosts about 16 people per day. The winter season is particularly known for the mix of the hot spring water and the cold air and surrounding snow that just makes the feeling indescribable.
This is my first video of places near where I am now living in Japan, but I hope to explore some more and share my findings.

Quick note, the best part of the onsen is actually the outdoor part, but due to it being a group bath, obviously I was not able to take any video, it's a shame because it's really beautiful too.

Must visit onsen (hot spring) in Minamisanriku Japan
Day 2: we visited Hotel Kanyo for onsen (hot spring) in Minamisanriku where the earthwake and tsunami hit in 2011 that wiped out 95% of the town. The onsen has infinity pools outdoor, overlooking the ocean where they raise seaweeds, oysters, and salmon. Hotel Kanyo lobby was on the fifth floor with guest rooms were above the lobby so it was spared from the tsunami, other floors below were hit. We drive around town and saw 3-floor building is left with nothing but a skeleton but the town rebuilding is in progress. It's my first time staying in an onsen and it's fantastic. After relaxing in the hot pools, we rest in traditional Japanese hotel room with tatami mats and futon. The dinner has so many courses and each dish is delicious and beautifully decorated.

4K Fall Cab Ride on Japan's Scenic 'Smile Railway' (秋田内陸線) in Akita.
Japan's 3'6 'Smile Railway' operates in Akita at the North of the main island of Honshu and runs South from Takanosu down the centre of the island to Kakunodate. Our trip was taken in Autumn 2017 but Winter's visions are even more splendid.
I'm guiding a series of small group, narrow gauge railway tours to Taiwan and Japan. Highlights of our Taiwan tour is a visit to the spectacular Alishan Forest Railway which climbs from sea level to 2.200m in just 75 kilometers and on special occasions, still operates a Shay geared locomotive!

Akita, Japan - Full Tour (2019)
Akita (秋田市 Akita-shi, Japanese: [aꜜki̥ta]) is the capital city of Akita Prefecture, Japan, and has been designated a core city since 1 April 1997.
The city, which covers an area of 906.09 square kilometres (349.84 sq mi), had an estimated population of 314,662 in October 2016, giving a population density of 347 persons per km2.
The area of present-day Akita was part of ancient Dewa Province, and has been inhabited for thousands of years. The Jizōden ruins within the city limits are a major archaeological site with artifacts from the Japanese Paleolithic period through the Jōmon and Yayoi periods. During the Nara period, the Yamato court established Akita Castle in 733 AD to bring the local Emishi tribes under its control. The area was ruled by a succession of local samurai clans in the Sengoku period, before coming under the control of the Satake clan of Kubota Domain during the Edo period. Under the Tokugawa shogunate, a castle town developed around Kubota Castle.
