What is a Private BATH HOUSE 'Onsen' in Japan like?
Have you ever wanted to see inside a Private Onsen? Here is a quick video to show you the interior of a small onsen room in Japan.
We recently went to Arima, in Kobe Hyogo prefecture to visit the famous hot springs in the area. Our hotel also had 2 special 'Private' onsens for use. The fee was about $40 for 1 hr. These private options are great for families, partners or even people who are 'shy' to use the public bath with strangers. By this you can still experience the beautiful benefits of Arimas' hot spring water BUT in privacy.
The room comes with a lock so you can lock the main door that enters into your private area. In the room there's a huge storage space with baskets if you have a lot of people I guess, a baby cot for kids, a fan- which you realise you will need after your bath, all umenties (these are for use only in the room, not to take with you) including; scrubs, shampoo, conditioner, treatments, skincare etc. Basically all items you see in a regular public bath will be in this room for your personal use. And..... inside the onsen room, there are little stools to sit and wash yourself before your enter. There was heaps of scrubs, soaps, shampoos, treatments and even pedifiles!
Overall, I really recommend hiring a private room if you are nervous or not sure what to expect when it comes to public baths. But if you don't mind bearing all in front of strangers then go ahead and experience Japans famous onsens!
