People of Yonezawa: Onogawa Onsen
Ono no Komachi, one of the most influential waka poets of Japanese history, is said to have
been the founder of the Onogawa Onsen in Yonezawa. This installment of ‘People of Yonezawa’ begins with one of her most well-known poems, before we are given a tour of the traditional onsen hot spring town.
Naoto Endo, the ‘Wakadanna’ or Young Master of the ‘Suzu no Yado Toufuya Ryokan’ gives us a special insight into the importance of hot spring culture, as well as the delights that Onogawa Onsen has to offer. Welcome to a more traditional side of Japan.

“Ryokan KAJIKA-SO” 宿PV JAPAN 河鹿荘01
小野川温泉 河鹿荘 ～山形県・小野川温泉～
山形県米沢市の旅館「小野川温泉 河鹿荘」。
日本三大和牛のひとつである米沢牛を贅沢に使った料理が絶品。
小野小町の伝説もある、美肌の湯として有名な硫黄泉が楽しめる。
周囲は自然が豊かに残っており、夏にはゲンジボタル、ヘイケボタル、ヒメボタルの3種類のホタルが舞う様子が観察でき多くのほたる好きが集まります。
冬にはかまくらに入りながら出前を頼める「どこでも出前」という取り組みが面白い。
また、近くには上杉謙信と上杉鷹山を祀る「上杉神社」があり、歴史ファンも多く訪れる名所となっています。

Enjoy the famous sulfur hot springs with a skin beautifying effect as heard of in the Ono Komachi legend.

With open-air onsen and private baths.
Guests can also indulge in exquisite Yonezawa beef, which is considered to be one of the three best Wagyu brands of Japan.
