Biwa-ko is the largest lake in Japan. Due to the close location to Kyoto, the capital city for a millennium, the lake and the surrounding areas can offer us a full of historical dramas with the samurai-warriors and the holy places including Chikubujima island. Three well-known castles are covered in this trip, Hikone, Gifu and Inuyama, two of them are the National Treasure of Japan.

Here at JKX we like to bring you an insight to the many different and beautiful places here in Japan. This film is of Shirahiga Shrine at Takashima by the shore of Lake Biwa, Japans largest lake, the area of the lake is about 670 km².
At JKX apart from suppling koi around the world we want people to experience the cultural side and beauty here in Japan.

A friend of mine suggested I go to some hot spots for autumn viewing in Shiga Prefecture. The first temple I visited was Eigen-ji (永源寺) in Takanochō Higashiōmi-shi. Although I was early I wasn’t the first to enter.
Eigen-ji temple grounds are located along the Echigawa River. Several steps lead up to the main buildings of this famous temple.
The Lord of the Omi Domain Sasaki Ujiyori (六角 氏頼) established Eigen-ji in 1361. He invited Zen master Jakushitsu Genkō (寂室 元光) to head up the temple.
There are many maple trees on the grounds that draped this ancient temple in splendid crimson attire.

Tokyo Olympic Games will be held in 2020 and many people are planning to come to Japan. A lot of people are probably thinking of going to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto.

However these cities don’t represent Japan. If you want to see the authentic Japan, you must come to Satoyama.

Shiga Prefecture is a good place to come if you want to see Satoyama because it is easy to get to from Kyoto. Hino Town where I live is one of the best Satoyama areas in Shiga. One thing you can do in Hino is forest walking.
