Experience Bucharest Press Trip 2019 - 3 Nights in Bucharest!
I’m here in Bucharest, Romania for the Experience Bucharest press trip, with 40 travel bloggers from around the world. Thanks to the Experience Bucharest team for putting this trip together year after year. I’m so glad I was able to participate this year, we had a great time touring around Bucharest.
For me the highlight, other than meeting everyone, was the Hot Rod Fun, driving the little go cart hot rods around the city. We also had some tours, parties, food and spa time. What a great three days, it went by so quick. But luckily I’m also attending the Experience Romania press trip right after this, 9 days traveling around Romania, can’t wait!

Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | Check your local public television station for this Rick Steves’ Europe episode or watch it on We'll tour Romania's vibrant capital, Bucharest, with its Little Paris of the East architecture and lingering reminders of a brutal communist dictator. Then we'll head into Transylvania, where we'll visit fortified churches, cobbled merchant towns like Sighișoara, and castles made famous by an imported German king and the real-life Dracula. Finally we'll explore Maramureș, where everyday life still feels like an open-air folk museum.

The City where the houses do not sleep, Sibiu, Romania | travel vlog |
Sibiu deserves its place in the top 5 most beautiful cities to visit in Romania.
Known for its German heritage, Sibiu is also named Hermannstadt and was chosen European Cultural Capital in 2007. A city in the heart of Transylvania (raise your hand if Dracula just sprung to your mind), surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains, with breathtaking landscapes, amazing mountain resorts, natural richness, all of which will turn your staying in Romania into a want-to-go-back memory.
The medieval magic of Sibiu will quickly magnetize you with its historic centre, the two main squares (Piața Mare and Piața Mică), Gothic buildings, narrow streets, various coffee shops, to mention but a few. If you feel romantic, there’s a special place to prove your love: The Bridge of Lies. Careful though! If you will declare something that is not truthful, the bridge will collapse…Now you may guess where the name comes from.
Hope you enjoy this vlog style video i filmed with in Sibiu, ROMANIA! I had such an amazing trip, more summer videos to come...
Thanks so much for watching! Don’t forget to like and subscribe :)

Village Museum Bucharest ©2018
In the 30s of the twentieth century, in Europe, there were only two open-air museums: Museum Skansen in Stockholm (Sweden, 1891) and the Museum of Lillehamer Bygdøy (Norway).
At that time in Romania, two museums of that kind had opened their doors to the public. The Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania from Cluj, founded in 1929, and The Romanian Village Museum in Bucharest (1936).
Draganu Horseshoe, Romania
Join ShortCut and RidgeRoute on their hike around the Draganu Horseshoe, Romania on Sep 10, 2019.
The morning after we climbed Mt. Omu we planned to tour Bran Castle, but it turned out that the castle was closed on Monday mornings and didn't open until noon. We didn’t want to hang around waiting for it to open, because we also wanted to explore Brașov, so we took the bus back to Brașov and spent most of the day walking around the city. We went on a self-guided walking tour of Brașov city center, before taking a train to Sinaia.
During the train ride, I mapped out a loop hike that climbed up onto, and then along, a ridge east of Sinaia. We strongly favor day-hiking loops as opposed to out-and-back hikes. Another advantage of this hike was that we could walk the entire loop out of the door of the place where we were staying. What I hadn't appreciated was that Sinaia lay in a deep valley and the place I'd booked was over 200 stairs up a steep hillside on the west side of this valley. This hike, however, was on the east side of the valley so Shorty complained about all the extra elevation gain.
The problem with doing exploratory loop day hikes is that you might encounter unexpected difficulty. You never know when you've reached the halfway point, time-wise, so you can never be certain you'll make it back before dark. The descent, on this particular hike, was a lot easier than the ascent so it worked out very well.
Draganu Horseshoe is my made-up name for this hike. I didn't find this hike described elsewhere. I thought it looked as though it would be a good loop; something to keep us busy for the whole day.
The tracks for this hike can be downloaded from the links below:

The morning after the hike we walked around the grounds of Peleș Castle, Pelișor Castle and the Foișor Hunting Lodge, that were built for King Carol I of Romania (1839–1914), before taking a train back to Bucharest.

When I came out of the mine I headed to my friend 's house. Grandfather returned home from World War II and built a family home. I am already ready to eat as I open the door. I'm not hunting all year round. There are periods when hunters gather together, and then I go hunting. Mainly hunting wild boar and meat are handed out by people who went out to hunt. Each person brings meat to the house and keeps it in the freezer. Then, when a special family event occurs, I take out the meat the day before and melt it and make a steak the next day. I can tell by looking at the blade. These knives are used to cut meat. I use it as a flute. I can make low, medium, high notes. How did you do that? Can not you hear me? Yes. I do not know how to do it. When you can not hunt well, you are defeated. Today's menu is a boar meat that is hunted in winter. Julia 's father cooks in the old way as it was passed on from the hunting grounds. When will you give me the recipe? Whenever you want. Really? Well then. I have to leave it with my family. What Julia's mother is making is killing corn. Now the final step. After doing this, after doing this. This year, my ninety-five grandfather also dressed in World War II Veterans' Merit in his chest. I do not wear this shirt like that. How about doing this?...

Stop one on the Transfăgărășan Highway was to visit Poenari Citadel, the former home of Vlad the Impaler or as some people refer to him the real Count Dracula. I walk the 1,480 steps until I reach the castle ruins perched on top of a mountain peak where I explore, fly the drone and enjoy the views.

Goodbye Cubicle, Hello Open Road - Camille Attell - Nomad Summit 2018 Las Vegas
Camille's grandparents taught her to go to school, get a job, and buy a house which is exactly what she did until she walked away from a twenty-year career in corporate America.
In the past two years, she and her husband, Bryce, have been full-time RV nomads, traveled 24,000 miles, and visited 30 states—all while learning how to create income streams, re-invent themselves, and stay married in 240 square feet.
They launched their travel blog, More Than A Wheelin' which opened doors to partnerships and opportunities. Camille also leveraged her background in career development and counseling to create Remote Work School to teach nomad hopefuls how to work remotely, and Blogging Camp (in partnership with 3 other RV nomads), a coaching program for rapid blog success. In addition to earning income through their courses and coaching, they've experimented with options trading, freelance writing, contract and consulting work, and recently, Camille partnered with a staffing agency to help place nomads into remote jobs.
Camille and Bryce will be featured in the upcoming RV Nomads documentary film due out in October 2018.

Cabride in Romania: Constanta - Eforie Sud and back (2014)
During my trip to Romania in 2014 I squeezed in some railfanning and also got to experience a cabride on Romania's line that heads south from Constanta to the border with Bulgaria along the coast of the Black Sea and passing through many tourist/beach communities and villages.
I had this opportunity come to me because a family friend happened to work for CFR and we just nonchalantly walked into the cabs of both trains and were treated with the uttermost respect and curiosity as well as I am from the U.S. and exchanged knowledge and differences between our railroads and ways of life with each crew.
On another note, during my trip to Romania one night when I was railfanning at the Constanta station a railfan actually hopped into the cab of a train with his tripod and everything and headed home in the cab as a free ride. Something you will never see in the USA...
We start off departing Constanta's train station. Before our train (which originated in București, Romania) can depart for the border with Bulgaria, the electric locomotive on the lead gets got off for a diesel locomotive as this line is diesel only. From Constanta westward, towards Bucuresti (the capital of Romania) most if not all trains use electricity to operate.
We took our train to Eforie Sud (south Eforie) where we got off and met our northbound train back to Constanta. In the midst of me video-taping our first train leaving and trying to walk to the head end the northbound train actually started moving and we had to board it while it was moving. The only way this was possible was with a button on the outside of the doors that lets you open it from the outside. Without that, we would have been shit out of luck waiting hours for the next train because of my foamer dumbass.
We road in a passenger car to the next station stop Eforie Nord (North Eforie) where we moved to the headend more quickly. The cabride back starts here at Eforie Nord all the way back to Constanta where we started.
You can see the video of my railfanning from the ground level in the link below:

5:05 overtaking CFR Marfa and connection to Port of Constanta
9:45 - 11:00 Agigea Nord Yard

14:35 Entering single-track mainline
19:00 Entering Eforie Nord
20:25 stray dog uses crossing to cross tracks
21:00 using horns on conductor side (right is horn/left is whistle)

27:15 exit Southbound train to wait for the northbound
