The Orbicular Granite Nature Sanctuary is a coastal area of ​​about 400 m 2 . It is located 11 km from Caldera, north of the extensive beach of Rolillo, in the III Region of Atacama.
On the beach there is a geological outcrop consisting of granite rocks with elliptical orbits. The orbicular body has a granodioritic matrix, with a porphyritic texture. The orbits are ellipsoidal, 7 cm in average diameter and are composed of a doric nucleus and a dark radial texture shell, composed of similar amounts of plagioclase and amphibole, with smaller amounts of clinopyroxene, biotite and magnetite.
The orbicular granite , also known as orbicular rock or orbiculite , is an unusual plutonic igneous rock usually of granitic composition in a general sense. These rocks have a unique appearance of orbiculos (concentric layers of spheroidal structure) probably formed by nucleation around a growth nucleus (mineral grain or strange rock) in a cooling magma chamber
