In the morning, we prepared to leave our cozy AirBnB at Golden Hill's Barrington Square to take pictures in front of Copthorne Hotel (with its big signature thermometer at the entrance!) and went to pick our cactus~ After which we checked-in to our hotel and had lunch at Old Town White Coffee. After a hearty lunch we visited O&R garden and finally we had dinner at a nearby steamboat house to end off 2018! ♥

Back to the Past - Time Tunnel Museum
The TIME TUNNEL is Malaysia's first memorabilia museum. Located in Brinchang, it is recognized as one of the main attractions of the Cameron Highlands.
The galleria is unlike any other in Peninsular Malaysia: it serves as a repository for collectibles and memorabilia. There are more than 3,000 items on display here. Apart from its comprehensive range of objets d'art, the outfit is also known for its assortment of old photographs -- most dating back to the post-War years.
The Time Tunnel was first established in January 2007. Since then, it has continued to grow at a steady pace. Situated at the basement of Kok Lim Strawberry Farm, the split-level galleria occupies a passageway that stretches for more than 80 meters. It is filled with artifacts that serve as a reminder of what life was like in Malaysia during the pre-War years. The exhibits are appropriately showcased in eight galleries covering an area of approximately 14,000 square feet.

The Cameron Highlands (Malay: Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Chinese: 金马崙高原, Tamil: கேமரன் மலை) is Malaysia’s most extensive hill station. It occupies an area of 712 square kilometres (275 sq mi). To the north, its boundary touches that of Kelantan; to the west, it shares part of its border with Perak.
Situated at the northwestern tip of Pahang, the “Camerons” is approximately 90 kilometres (56 mi) from Ipoh, roughly 200 kilometres (120 mi) from Kuala Lumpur or about 355 kilometres (221 mi) from Kuantan, the capital of Pahang. It is the smallest constituency in Pahang.
Discovered by Sir William Cameron in 1885, the outpost consists of three districts, namely Ringlet (5,165 hectares), Tanah Rata (2,081 hectares) and Ulu Telom (63,981 hectares). Its eight sub-districts are Ringlet, Tanah Rata (the administrative centre), Brinchang, the Bertam Valley, Kea Farm, Tringkap, Kuala Terla and Kampung Raja. All are nestled at elevations ranging from 1,100 metres (3,600 ft) to 1,600 metres (5,200 ft) above sea level.
The mean annual temperature of the retreat is about 18 °C (64 °F). During the day, the temperature seldom rises over 25 °C (77 °F); at night, it can drop to as low as 9 °C (48 °F) at the higher reaches.[2]
The resort has a diverse population of more than 38,000 people. It comprises Bumiputeras (Malay (7,321); others (5,668)), Chinese (13,099), Indians (6,988), non-Malaysian citizens (5,193), and other nationalities (202).[3] Most of the residents here are entrepreneurs, service industry employees, farm workers, retirees or government servants. The languages spoken are Malay, Mandarin, Tamil and English. Islam, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Christianity and Sikhism are the main religions of the haven.
Developed in the 1930s, the tableland is one of the oldest tourist spots in Malaysia. Apart from its tea estates, the plateau is also noted for its cool weather, orchards, nurseries, farmlands, waterfalls, rivers, lakes, wildlife, mossy forest, golf course, hotels, places of worship, bungalows, Land Rovers, museum and its aborigines (Orang Asli).
The Cameron Highlands can be accessed by road via Tapah, Simpang Pulai, Gua Musang or Sungai Koyan. Tapah and Simpang Pulai are the two approaches from Perak. Gua Musang and Sungai Koyan are the entryways from Kelantan and Pahang, respectively

Cameron Highlands is the smallest district in Pahang which is located in the north- western corner of the state. One of the most popular hill resort in the country, this highland destination still retains much of the charm of an English village. Although massive development in the last decade has changed the landscape of the highlands, it remains a popular destination for those who wanting to escape the hot weather of the lowlands.
Being the primary agricultural region of the nation, you will find an abundance of vegetable farms dotted all over the highlands. Cameron Highlands is also the leading producer of flowers and tea in Malaysia. Be prepared for a lovely sight of tea plantations and beautiful flowers you won’t see flourishing elsewhere in Malaysia.
Located on the Titiwangsa Range at about 1500 metres above sea-level, the temperature here can drop to 16 ˚C or lower at certain times. The weather here remains at the lower to mid 20′s most of the time. Cameron Highlands is made up of 4 main townships followed by smaller settlements at different elevations. The first town from the south is Ringlet, followed by Tanah Rata, Brinchang, Kea Farm, Tringkap, Kuala Terla and Kampung Raja.
Ringlet
If you’re taking the old road via Tapah, this is the first town you will reach after the 1 hour drive through the rainforest. Located at an elevation of 1,200 metres above sea-level, Ringlet is one of the main agricultural hub for the highlands. There is nothing much to do here for the typical tourist besides stopping for fuel as this is one of the towns with petrol stations. Bertam Valley which is located about 5km away is one of the main flower and vegetable producers in Cameron Highlands. The new road from Sungai Koyan and Raub which opened in 2012 goes through Bertam Valley and ends up here in Ringlet. The nearest hotel is the LakeHouse which is less then 5 minutes drive from here.
Tanah Rata
The heart of Cameron Highlands is indeed its administrative township called Tanah Rata which is highly popular among the foreign tourists. Nestled at an elevation of 1,440 metres (4,720 ft) with a daily temperature range from 19 to 26 degrees Celsius, the development in this area has been under control until the recent years where you can see more buildings coming up.
The name “tanah rata” actually means flat ground in the Malay language and it refers to the relatively flat area on which the town is located amidst the surrounding hills and mountain peaks. Being slightly laidback but with access to everything you need, this is where most of the guesthouses which caters to backpackers and the yuppie crowd are located.
Tanah Rata has banks, bars, money changers, sundry shops, cyber cafes, tour counters, restaurants, fast food outlets and even a Starbucks cafe. Visitors often choose to explore the surrounding sub-mountain forest here as there are numerous jungle trails with varying lengths and difficulties conveniently accessed from this area.
Some trails that are popular include the Trail Number 4 from Parit Falls among others leading to mountain peaks such as Gunung Beremban (1,812m), Gunung Mentigi (1,535m), Gunung Perdah (1,551m) and Gunung Jasar (1,670m). All jungle walks here are numbered and can be easily referenced from tourist maps available from shops, cafes and hotels around town
Brinchang
Brinchang which is a bustling township in Cameron Highlands is located five kms from Tanah Rata. It is the second largest township of Cameron Highlands but it is the busiest attracting a large number of local tourists on weekends and public holidays.
The popular night market is located here and its open on weekends, school holidays and public holidays. You can get highland produce, non-highlands produce, local street food, soft toys and fruits from the night market. The town has a numerous restaurants serving Chinese, Malay and Indian cuisine and a range of budget and medium ranged hotels. Being located slightly higher and close to most of the attractions, Brinchang has become a popular place to star for mostly local tourist.
Many vegetable farms, flower nurseries and fruit orchards are located close to this town and some popular tourist spots here include Cactus Valley and the Big Red Strawberry Farm.

St. Petersburg
Kyoto:
Far to the northwest in Pahang, just 125 miles from sprawling Kuala Lumpur, are the Cameron Highlands. When you venture into the cool, misty depths of this mountain wonderland, you’ll be witness to some of the most exquisite landscapes in Malaysia. At nearly 5,000 feet meters above sea level, a trip to these forested areas will stick with you for the rest of your life.
The Cameron Highlands are named after Scottish surveyor William Cameron. He stumbled upon the lush valleys of the highlands in the late 1800s, and found the gorgeous environment and cool air too enticing to leave. Colonial Britons living in Malaysia trekked to the highlands to escape the heat and humidity of the rest of the island. Today, the Cameron Highlands are a quiet, relaxing retreat for those who are looking for a slower pace of life. You won’t find high-end resorts here, but rather quaint inns, many of which hail from the colonial era and are lovingly preserved by owners and caretakers.
If you’re a fan of tea, your Cameron Highlands sightseeing will include stops at local tea plantations. This is a holdover from British times; the colonists brought their love of tea with them, and upon realizing tea plants could be grown in the Cameron Highlands, great rolling hills of plants appeared in the rolling highlands. But you’ll still find wide swaths of jungle and forested area, flooded with wildlife and the sounds of birds and insects. A Cameron Highlands tour, above all, is a reminder of nature’s beauty.

Cameron Highlands:
Cameron Highlands is a very famous range of mountains located in one of the states of Malaysia, in Pahang. It's highest peak is Gunung Brinchang with 6,666 feet. Cameron Highlands offer its visitors unbelievable holidays with ever green scenery, picturesque little towns, valleys and hills. Cameron Highlands is the Malaysia largest highlands very popular for backpackers, and even for families who are eager for some adventure and fresh fruit and vegetable.
Brinchang, other town just 5 km from Tanah Rata, has not many budget hostels and guesthouses. Ringlet town almost none. But both Tanah Rata and Brinchang are pretty full of hotels if you are not on a budget. Anyway, more is happening in Tanah Rata when it comes to food and life. Brinchang is more quiet. So when coming to Cameron Highlands by bus, just say to the driver if you want to get off in Brinchang or Tanah Rata so he knows where to leave you.
Things to do in Cameron Highlands:Depends on your peace, but usually a couple of days are enough to visit Cameron Highlands. Their beauty will get stuck in your heart for long time after you leave anyway, even if you just spent a couple of hours in there, or just observed it from a bus. I stayed there for 2 days and saw a lot, but would prefer to stay longer if only I had more time.
Jim Thomson's trail -- in 1967 there was this Jim Thomson, a WW II militay officer who dissapeared while trekking in Cameron Highlands. You can follow his path around Cameron Highlands, just don't get lost, please :)
Cactus Valley -- you can get here walking from Brinchang town which takes from 5 to 10 minutes. For 4 RM (around 1 Euro) you can see thousands of cactus plants (some of them are 60 years old), apple trees, strawberries, tomatoes, roses, gerbera, impatiens, birds of paradise, anthuriums, lilies, and even dried flowers.
Butterfly Garden -- there are two next to each other. The entrance fee is 5 RM for each (just a bit more than 1 Euro). You can see everything there in about 30 minutes. Apart from the big colourful butterflies living there, you will get the chance to see bugs, chameleons, lizards, frogs, leaf sticks, grasshoppers, snakes and other weird animals living in the rainforest. They are huge and most of them almost invisible.
BOH Tea Estate -- there are two in Cameron Highlands, one is hard to get to between Tanah Rata and Ringlet, the other, more famous one, is close to Brinchang. A road leads there opposite the Market Square where walking will take you around 1 hour. It is a bit hilly and curvy, but not very difficult to walk (I walked it in flip-flops). Maybe if you are lucky, a car will stop and get you there. Yeah, just like this when they see you, or you can hitchhike. But even if not, the green scenery full of tea trees is something you will never forget. To say it was one of the best things I've ever seen in my life would be an understatement.
After all the stunning hills you will pass a little village of blue and green houses and an Indian temple where the farmers leave. Then on top of the road there is finally your destination. There is a restaurant with the best view ever offering different kinds of tea from the plantation, and some snacks, then a shop where you can buy tea packs and other souvenirs; photos and videos explaining you the history of BOH Tea Estate. And finally then you will get to know the process of making tea in the tea factory which consists of withering, rolling, fermentation, drying, sorting, tea tasting and packaging of tea. Both BOH Tea Estate factories in Cameron Highlands still use the same old equipment as in the 30′s when they were opened as it is the best. BOH Tea Estate has its own packaging factory and every year exports 4 million kg of tea (both domestic and international market.) BOH Tea Plantation is a must see in Cameron Highlands.
Trekking to Rafflesia Site -- there is a place full of Rafflesias -- the world's biggest flower (travel agencies include this place in many tours during the Rafflesia season.)
Trekking through the forest -- there are 14 trails in Cameron Highlands, just check out the map or ask in the tourist information. I did the trail from Tanah Rata to Robinson Waterfall and then trail number 9A. All the walking sometimes very harsh and slippery, was so worth it thanks to the absolutely amazing scenery of Cameron Highlands.
