Oregon Coast Railriders Trip
This was from our September 2019 Oregon Coast Trip. We went on the Oregon Coast Railriders tour. You pedal along an abandoned rail line in these specially built rail cars.
Lots of fun. Great sights. I made a little video of the experience and set it to music from my favorite train song.
I don't own the rights to the background music, but the lyrics are my own used as a parody. This is allowable under fair use.
Although I'm going to bet that the Youtube algorithm will piof Petticoat Junction will probably tag it as a copyright issue.

Travel Across America - Oregon Travelogue 1/5
Oregon is GORGEOUS! After 3 years as an online student at Oregon State University, I was so honored to have the opportunity to graduate in person in Corvallis. Here's my first travelogue of adventures from our trip. I'm a scenery nerd (that is a new thing I just created) and we drove from Salt Lake City, Utah up to Corvallis so we could enjoy the scenery along the way.

Cycling from Astoria to Seaside to Bay City, Oregon
On September 23, 2013 I left Astoria and headed to Seaside, Oregon. While in Seaside I saw some of the best sunsets thus far on my adventure. After a couple days in Seaside I hopped back on my bike and went to Bay City, Oregon. But not without a nice stop at Cannon Beach to check out Haystack Rock and the beautiful scenery. I stayed with a lovely host in Bay City. She had an eclectic home with turkeys, chickens, ducks, and an extensive garden. I managed to time lapse one of the turkeys as he was gobbling outside my door. One of the best parts about Bay City was the beautiful view of the night sky. All footage shot on my GoPro or my Canon 6D.

Oregon Coast | Thor's Well, Devil's Punchbowl, Dune Buggies
Southern Oregon Coast Highlights: Driving south along highway 101 from Lincoln City to Coos Bay including Devil's Churn, Thor's Well, Devil's Punchbowl, driving dune buggies in the Oregon Natural Sand Dunes from Spinreel Dune Buggy Rentals, stopping at several lighthouses, and hiking to Drift Creek Falls east of Lincoln City.

Here's the route of our road trip:
TOP TRAVEL TIPS:
*We went one hour before high tide, and the waves were relatively small at Devil's Churn and Thor's Well. Stormy weather would help to see the massive waves photographers take pictures of here.
*I would recommend to go to Thor's Well close to, but not at high tide. The tide was coming in when we were there, and when it gets higher it's tough to get close to, as we were lucky enough to do (scary, but fun). But if you have time, coming back at high tide allows one to see Spouting Horn.
*Go to Devil's Punchbowl at low tide as that is the only time to walk inside.
*To get inside Devil's Punchbowl: Access the beach from C ave. Park in the lot between 2nd and 3rd street and walk north on C street and the path is obvious to your left.
*We rented from Spinreel Dune Buggies, and I recommend making the extra drive from Florence to get a better deal, and a way larger dunes area, plus they're the only place that rents single buggies. They do take reservations, so call at least the day of before driving down:
*At Devil's Churn, there's two paths down/up, so it allows people to walk around the beach and walk up a different path
*The Sea Lion Caves is obviously a tourist trap, so be aware of what your paying for. There were no Sea Lions in the cave when we went.
*Drift Creek Falls is a very easy hike with an awesome finish with the suspension bridge and the falls. Go early as parking fills up quickly.
*A National Park Pass (AKA America the Beautiful) gives free admission to all the parks we went to, including the lighthouses.

Hug Point Historical Road Oregon Coast Then and Now!
In the late 1800's the Oregon coast was just beginning to be settled and there were NO roads. Pioneers used the beach as a road to travel north & south delivering goods and passengers to the various settlements. South of Cannon beach the land jutted out into the water making passage around the point only doable at low tide. As the population grew so did traffic creating a problem. So, using whatever tools they had the pioneers chiseled out a narrow, primitive road around the point. The road was used until the early 1930's. Now the road is primarily used by walkers and hikers... at low!

Abandoned Tillamook Railroad Oregon - Aerial drone adventure
Type in NW Cochran Rd Timber, OR in your gps. After turning onto Cochran in Timber the road turns into gravel after about a mile. Go maybe another mile or two and the road splits, stay to the right. There are mile marker signs on the trees and shortly after mile 6 the road splits again, stay to the left, immediate split again and stay to the right. There is a large area to your right where you can park.
There are two sets of tracks, the upper left holds an abandoned rail car less than a mile hike in but the tracks end shortly after. Return to the bottom right for the full hike.
Triple Oregon Train Ride
In the summer of 2014 Pacific Rails Productions visited three different train rides within the state of Oregon. First stop was the Sumpter Valley Railroad, located about 24 miles west of Baker City, that takes passengers through late-1800s gold dredging operations on its way to the old mining town of Sumpter. Next stop was the Oregon Pacific Railroad in Portland and its short excursion along the Willamette River and through a wildlife refuge between the Oregon Rail Heritage Center and Oaks Amusement Park. Last stop was a revisit to the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad for a trip along Tillamook Bay from Rockaway Beach back to Garibaldi. It's a jam-packed trip featuring music from the popular PC game Railroad Tycoon 3. All Aboard!
