Digging for clams in Oregon. How and where to catch giant clams during low tide
I went clamming again on the Oregon coast, and I caught some of the biggest clams ever. This time, I used a garden rake to dig for clams. The best time to go clamming is during a low tide (especially a negative tide where the mud flats will expose the clams for easy digging). The cockles we found were about 2-3 inches below surface underwater, many were right on the surface, and you can see them easily.
Clamming season is open year round in Oregon.
Oregon Clamming - catch and clean clams
The best time to go clam digging in Oregon is usually during a low tide. The lower the tide the better. For bay clam, a shovel is usually all you need. But if you go after cockles, a rake works best. Here I was clamming on the mud flats during a negative tide. The clams I got were pretty big.
Here is the clam shovel:

Microplastics Found In Oysters and Clams On Oregon Coast
Tiny threads of plastics are showing up in Pacific oysters and razor clams along the Oregon coast — and the yoga pants, fleece jackets, and sweat-wicking clothing that Pacific Northwesterners love to wear are a source of that pollution, according to a new Portland State University study.
Britta Baechler, a Ph.D. student in PSU’s Earth, Environment and Society program, and Elise Granek, a professor of environmental science and management, looked at what variables predict microplastic concentrations in Pacific oysters and razor clams — organisms that have commercial, recreational and cultural importance in Oregon.

Crabbing on the Oregon Coast Bay
My buddy and I went crabbing, caught about 5 Dungeness crabs. We met a girl with her grandmother that was crabbing too and we helped them out a little bit.
Afterwards we bought some Oysters that were locally farmed and were fresh right off the Bay. Cooked a Crab and a dozen Oysters... Couldn't get any fresher than that and delicious!

Approximately 2,289,800 people live in the Portland metropolitan area (MSA), the 19th most populous MSA in the United States.
Portland was incorporated in 1851 near the end of the Oregon Trail and is the county seat of Multnomah County. The city has a commission-based government headed by a mayor and four other commissioners as well as Metro, a distinctive regional government. The city is noted for its superior land-use planning and investment in light rail.Because of its public transportation networks and efficient land-use planning, Portland has been referred to as one of the most environmentally friendly, or green, cities in the world.
Located in the Marine west coast climate region, Portland has a climate marked by both warm, dry summers and wet, cool-to-chilly winter days. This climate is ideal for growing roses. For more than a century, Portland has been known as the City of Roses, with many rose gardens -- most prominently the International Rose Test Garden. The city is also known for its abundant outdoor activities, liberal political values, and beer and coffee enthusiasm. Portland is home to a collection of independent microbreweries, microdistilleries and food carts that contribute to the unofficial but widely utilized[citation needed] slogan Keep Portland Weird.

Mo's Restaurant Celebrates 70 Years on the Oregon Coast
When Mohava Marie Niemi, Newport’s crusty, big hearted chain smoking mother died in 1992 at the age of 79, she left behind much more than a successful business and a trunk full of colorful anecdotes. Her greatest legacy, perhaps, was the work ethic she instilled in her family, which survives to this day.
Paul Newman, Joann Wodward, Henry Fonda, Lee Remmick and the entire cast and crew of “Sometimes A Great Notion,” the movie made from author Ken Kesey’s novel, became friends of Mo’s while filming in Newport. Mo, herself, was in a scene which took place in the Bay Haven Inn, renamed The Snag in the film.
Senator Robert Kennedy, who came through Newport on his presidential campaign tour in May of 1968, liked the chowder so much he took a couple of buckets with him on the plane and even invited Mo to join them for the trip to Los Angeles. She politely declined, and then bitterly regretted her decision. Shortly thereafter Kennedy was shot to death after a campaign speech at the Ambassador Hotel.
Mo and her restaurants have been and continue to be written up in dozens of newspapers and magazines around the United States. In 1999 Mo’s Clam Chowder was a featured entrée at the first luncheon ever held in the Smithsonian Institute, which celebrated “Best American Regional Foods.” She was very proud of the notoriety, but most of all grateful for the restaurants’ popularity, and she gave back graciously to her community. Mo gave of herself completely, promoting “Newport the Friendliest,” with her time, energy and money. That legacy continues to this day in her granddaughter Cindy McEntee. For her “outstanding development of her business and her contributions to the community” Cindy was awarded the 2001 1st runner up, National Small Business Person of the Year from President George W. Bush. Cindy continues to run the business today along with the help of her daughter Gabrielle and son Dylan. In January of 2005 Cindy published a book, Mo’s On The Waterfront, Tradition Turned Legend to honor the life of her beloved grandmother and to celebrate the business she created over 55 years ago.
A trip to the Oregon Coast is not complete without a stop at Mo’s. We look Forward to serving you!

Walking Around the Iredale Shipwreck on Oregon Coast
Family and good friend Rod rode bikes on Ft. Steven's pacific coast trails from the camp grounds to view the Iredale shipwreck. This skeleton of this shipwreck is located on the Oregon Northern coastline close the the Astoria, columbia river mouth. It is easy access through Ft. Steven's located off of HWY 101, approximately 10miles South of Warrington. The viewing from this video is pretty good. I was able to walk around the whole thing. Lucky for me the tide was out. A year ago I couldn't walk near, let alone around this wreck on the last videos I took.
Oregon Fishing FULLY EXPLAINED
I felt I had a need to make this video. I love the state of Oregon so much; it really is the most beautiful state in America, and also oh so hard to fish.
In this video, done with the use of Google Earth, we well try to fully explain Oregon fishing. We'll talk about how fishing changes in the season, fishing locations, and each species, including salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, bass, kokanee, surf perch and many more.
Tips up, tight lines and have fun fishing!
