Exploring Bowden Cave (near Elkins WV - October 14 1998)
Another passion of mine besides trains-cave exploration! Here, we check out Bowden Cave, a few miles east of Elkins, West Virginia.
This really isn't a thorough exploration, as most of my cave explorations usually are, but just a trip to the stream passage located on a lower level of the cave (challenging enough!). We on occasion make short explorations such as this to see what we're up against should we decide to return and explore more thoroughly after all.
My first 8mm camcorder had no built-in light, making it necessary to use our bike headlights as cave lights! I tried to maintain as much detail as possible under these circumstances.
So come on in with us!! We're over 40, and we did it!!
Actually, we stopped here while taking the scenic route home from Cass!
Note: This cave was closed in the early 2000s (reason unknown) but I believe it's been reopened since. Use caution, and know what you're getting into! And, please, take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, and kill nothing but time! Respect this very vulnerable natural wonder!
Another note: We revisited this cave on Oct 6! While we didn't make it to the stream, we did manage to get as far as the descent to it. What stopped us from going all the way down was...the intense cold!! During the visit in this 1998 vid the cave was rather tolerable, but on Oct 6 there was an incredibly cold breeze-about 40 degrees-blowing through, despite it being about 90 outside!! I plan to revisit in 2014 and go prepared for the cold! But I'm happy to report the cave is open, and we went in without incident. The vid for the Oct 6 visit is part of my next Day Odyssey series. Inside the Caverns in West Virginia 038
We toured the Cavern's in West Virginia. If you've nevered experienced this before, you can take a 4 minute sneek peak by watching this clip. Towards the end, one of the formations is 97 foot tall! Some of the rooms in the cavern were almost Cathedral sized. March 9, 2013.

About us
We fell in love with each other at an RV show and as a result we fell in love with campers too. For years we have been going to RV shows and picking out our favorites and dreaming of the day we would be able to have one of our own. Then in the summer of 2017 after a series of major mishaps (Our car being totaled, pay cuts and layoffs and a trip to the ER) we purchased our first camper, a Jayco Qwest for less than 5000. Then we began the process of downsizing. Now we are traveling and exploring the RV Lifestyle.

Lost World Caverns, Lewisburg, WV
June 20, 2017 visit to Lost World Caverns at Lewisburg, West Virginia; between Lost World Caverns and the Smoke Hole Caverns in Grant County, WV, and the Seneca Caverns in Pendleton County, WV, the caverns at Lost World are the best of the three. Lost World is a self-guided tour with interpretive signs, at your own pace, without the script of a tour guide and the schedule set by the other caverns. Show up early on a weekday and you just might have the Lost World Caverns all to yourself (I was the first to enter on this day, and spent an hour inside the caverns, with other small groups filtering in during that time).
Lost World Caverns, WV
MC Travelers visited Lost World Caverns in Lewisburg, West Virginia. Lost World Caverns is a beautiful underground half mile walk through a cave 100 ft below the surface. As you walk past beautiful calcite and rock formations (most more than a thousand years old), you can read about the discovery and ancient history of the cave. It's an attraction that's not to be missed!
